Love this era. Seaboard units in the mix as well. 1988 was awesome one CSX 👍

up until the end, chessie seemed to take pride in their locos. washing them routinely. i remember in 1979, in cincy, stockyard terminal, when they brought in a WM SD40 for a bath.(a red/black one) after the bath they put it on the turntable for a spin. and WOW! until the water dried,(5min.) it looked amazing in color!

I grew up on this same line, just a later section of it. I believe this is ex B&O, now CSX Chicago to Baltimore mainline. I grew up on the Ohio section as it passes through Kent Ohio. I remember what remnants of B&O remained, especially the CPLs. There was a signal light across the river from my bedroom and during the winter, the CPL would light up the snow. So these are the trains that defined my childhood and OBSESSION with trains. Well...Conrail too.

Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific both have heritage engines. I think BNSF and CSX especially should have some heritage units of their own. The railroads that CSX once were had some fantastic paint schemes and it would be great to see them nowadays.

Awesome video Jack Miss old sleeping kitten
@manga125 жыл бұрын
yes the classic sleep like a kitten chessie c, there was a few designs for the new csxt with a more feral and tougher looking cat but it did not catch on, which is too bad, and at least chessie cared a bit about history still, and around the time the old timers could tell you stories of steam, and the waning years, wish they were still around trying to peice togather railroad history in garrett the subdivision and half way from willard to chicago, we have an old freight shed and the old watch tower that are part of the musium for history, oh and the old coal bunker for the old powerhouse for the old backshop area that closed in 1926, artifacts and a few railcars we have, origional buildings no, only foundations, even the old oilhouse collapsed on itself and they tore it down, her platform though is still there for now. if you want to learn more I made a bunch of videos on the history I could piece togather, if only csx was not so anti steam and history now, though it might be changing since the stuff they are doing to help the kentucky steam heritage group, and the last 2 years nkp 765 while in steam was towed across a bit of csx track on the way to cayahoga valley scenic railroad though under their trackage rights the cvsr has. but trying to get them to let us bring 765 up to garret for heritage days is a no go I dont even think they would let us use a siding even for a day, but a live steam in garrett again the last of the old b and o to have steam, oh the people would come from miles around as they usually do by the hundreds to see a live mainline steam engine fired up and its sights and sounds.

I'm hearing more and more bad things about CSXT and now it's all coming together as to why now. Last year they sold the main line that runs from Jacksonville to Mobile Alabama to Rail USA and it's now classified as a short line with very few trains running through here in Tallahassee now. We'd be lucky to see a 30 car rock train that stays empty the majority of the time. Also this line used to serve Amtrak's Sunset Limited route once

I said the exact same thing!!!...I wish each railroad would get an old flagship unit whether its Alco, EMD or GE and paint it them in its heritage liveries also the make corresponding units in absorbed company liveries as well...i.e. A u36-b in Seaford System colors and a SD40-2 highhood in Southern R.R. colors etc.
