i'm actually really surprised to see you talk so highly about chessington! it's my home park, and i love it, but i often hear it get bashed by uk enthusiasts a lot. i kinda get it, but i'm happy you're highlighting the good parts about this park! my last chessington visit (probably a few weeks before you went) i loved it, and i really need to go again

I really enjoy chessington. I used to work at Thorpe Park and would visit chessington on days off as it was about 20 mins away. I would sit for hours watching the animals. Baby gorillas are so sweet! Not so thrilling but just as fun as the other parks!

I have grown up with this park, and it houses the ride I miss the most anywhere in the world. That was Bubbleworks, and it got rethemed into the Gruffalo, which is a popular children's book over here

Chessington is a park that gets overlooked in the Merlin portfolio, I’d honestly take it over Thorpe park these days

I grew up going to Chessington & Legoland so I have a lot of memories from both parks, Vampire was probably one of the first roller coasters I rode.

My first job as a teen was working at Chessington as a ride operator. Worked my way up to being an area rides team leader. It was the best few years of my life by far. My first ride to operate was Bash Street Bus (now Jungle Bus). Tiny Truckers was a nightmare to operate, always having to go out and do manual resets on the trucks. Black Buccaneer was absolutely my favourite to operate for many reasons. Vampire was fun to operate but always being in the dark takes it's toll. I operated 12 rides from Vampire to Griffins Galleon, Safari Skyway to Billy's Whizzer. Best part was the people I worked with. Having to climb up to the top of Dragon's Falls as team leader when it broke down to reassure guests was the worst part.

as a local resident and this being my home park I can tell you you didn't miss out on much with zufari most of the effects are broken and the line is waaaaaay to long I have seen them run one vechial on a summer weekend, unfortunately I know because I was in that queue... overall chessington is a great park though!

There used to be a land called "Beanoland" which was based on the popular "Beano" comics by D.C. Thompson, i still collect some of their classic "Annual" books whenever i can find them!

yeah some of the rides include the Bash Street School Bus(now a jungle safari tour bus) Roger's Dogems(now themed as indian taxi motorcars) Billy's Whizzer(now themed as a monkey tree) and best of all, Dennis' Madhouse(now themed as an ancient temple ruin)

Loved the review! Seriously guys, you must watch The Gruffalo BBC animated movie if you can access it in the US... it's a short family classic but will make the ride make sense - and bring back nice memories, I'm sure!

I remember you guys getting some flack for your positive opinion when you dropped your vlog. For some of the older UK enthusiasts, this park is seen as past its prime. You should really look at old photos of the log flume or the mine train from the 90s. Truly incredible theming comparable to the European parks, and they had some thrilling flat rides as well. But once Thorpe and Chessington became owned by the same company the 2 parks specialised so Chessington became the family park and Thorpe became the thrill park. Personally, I’ve only known chessington as a family park with Merlins modern theming. I really like the place, it’s a nice day out. But at the same time i don’t know if i woudve enjoyed it more if it was a fully immersive park with some thrill rides, like it was in its prime. The wild mouse is the only ride with a 1.4m hight requirement left, and IDK how long that ride will last.

Chessington is a park I'm not too far away from and is a great day out. The zoo part of the park is done really well and it's got some of the best themed areas in the UK. Vampire is a coaster with loads of personality. There's really no other coaster quite like it and although it is a bit old the intense bits pack quite a punch. The live shows the do at Halloween are really good. My only gripe is the food in the park is pretty sub par but that's a common feature with Merlin parks. Final verdict: definitely worth a visit

Chessington may not be a thrill park but its themeing and its zoo and family rides are just awesome all round, plus it was on a week away up there for howl-o-ween me and my partner conceived our first child so alot of great memorys

As a British person it’s so interesting to see an American review this park! It’s definitely doesn’t compare to the extreme factor of the American parks but you find that these parks are better themed. I’ve visited chessington since I was very young and never disappoints. Just an overall great park.

Don't worry too much about missing out on Zufari, it's quite disappointing really. Very short with a random (and pointless) cave scene at the end. It could (and should) be so much better.

It’s ok, the cave seen used to be quite good. The truck used to stop. Water effects, lighting and music etc would play but it hasn’t been on for a long time. Trucks just drive right through these days.

It's a nice looking park, but the ride reliability is terrible. Last time I went the only major rides open were the vampire and the log flume.

"wild woods" used to be called transilvania, because it was entirely based around vampire, then they ruined bubbleworks by calling it "the gruffalo ride" and also ruined transilvania by giving it an incorrect title, that's why all of the buildings are so gothic (and they aren't german, they're romanian), it's one of the worst descisions merlin have ever made, also with "land of the tiger", it used to be "land of the dragon" if i remember correctly, and "tiger rock" was dragon's falls, yet another frustrating change, the newer lands just lack the charm that the old ones do, "blue barnacle" used to be black buccaneer, "croc drop" used to be a huss top spin called "ramses' revenge", overall it's just really frustrating how much charm has been taken out of the park
