There are a couple of mistakes in this video. The Maia engine is based on Lc0 with different "weights" to simulate a human player playing at that specific level. The engine search depth setting determines how many *nodes* to search, not how many plys/moves, as the weights already determine a rank for the candidate moves. To put things into perspective, Lc0 with the default weights and a node search depth of 1 will be challenging for a GM, so around 2600 ELO. Maia's weights are generated from analyzing human games around that specific ELO and the authors clearly say that the node search depth should be set to 1, which means there's no reason to expose the node search depth setting or have it default to 2. Also, Chessable is not a chess server so you can't play online with other people, it's a site where you buy chess courses. I guess the idea here is to play the position from the course using the Chessnut board, but... Regarding the colored squares, I am not entirely convinced that the feature works as expected. Chessbase software (Fritz and Chessbase) have a feature called "click and check" which also draws colored squares on the board, but if you set up the same position in Fritz or Chessbase you will see that moving the Bishop will show the d7 square as yellow and the rest as red because Nc7+ is coming which also forks the rook. I'm not sure why Bg4 is yellow and you interpret as "semi-safe" when you obviously blunder the bishop.

Lots of impressive features here, however - - none of these will take the place of a sound study plan, heavy on tactics training, endgame drills, regular games against other humans, and deep analysis one one's completed games. Buy this if you like, but if you want to get better, you have to put in the work. 🙂

Well, try it with Forward Chess (web version) and a good chess book. Great to work through a good chess book with as its "Chess Vision" can follow along the book with you. To do this simply open Forward Chess on your Firefox web browser on the Evo, pull up one of your chess books, and turn on "chess vision" (button on lower right of screen). Then as you play through the book on the Evo screen, moves show up on the board.

Buyer Beware! This product is essentially unreturnable. Returns only approved if the package is unopened and unused. Even then, the process takes about a week of back and forth with the company proving your case with photographic evidence. Unethical.

This company has apparently sent a free board to dozens of youtube chess influencers in exchange for reviews. I have hardly heard a negative comment about it. The board is cool, but it's glitchy, plagued with techical issues and overpriced. Do more research people.

Nothing wrong with that kind of marketing, but the fact that if you so much as breathe on it you can’t return it, is ridiculous.

@@amarthurfurniture860 That kind of marketing can be deceptive because the person doing the review is being paid, and has an interest in giving a good review. The problem with it is that it's marketing as you say, which is inherently deceptive, but is often disguised as a genuine person simply reviewing a product without bias.

I don't get how and why no one is talking about the long response time when playing online. It seems like all of the reviews are trying to cover up for chessnut. ​@@zsn1gman
