variations have been mixed up in the edit. Reason why i shouldnt post at 9pm i guess 😅 there is an error in the final position obviously the c pawn can grab the knight. The solution was to capture both pawns c5 and c4 before heading for the b3 square with your knight. Sorry about this guys!

Simple to explain in 10 seconds: You must take c5 and c4 pawns (to leave Rb3 unprotected) after the good choice h2-h3 and knight promotion to force queen to move to same color square each time knight moves (Na5 must force Qa1). Then you deliver mate with Nxb3.

What can you do with a queen? You can take the pawn on c5, then c4, then rook on b3 (when queen is on a1), then queen on b2. Problem is, the pawn moves to b3, which frees the bishop into a potential checkmate threat. This can be stopped by the queen, but then you won't be able to keep the knight on b1 from moving, and then the pawn on b2 will promote.

Yeah they can do that, but if the White king moves, the black pawn promotes. After capturing the promoted pawn or not, black doesn't have to move the Queen back and forth anymore unfortunately, as now the bishop is free to roam there, which mean the Queen will be camping there for the rest of the game.

The only king move available would be Kf2, but now you just let the dogs out...the e2 pawn promotes with discovered check, which in turn frees the d2 rook and eventually the knight and light bishop. White is bound to lose assuming Black doesn't blunder stalemate.

Basically, this is a problem about parity. After the pawn's first move, that piece (whether as a pawn or a knight) has to change parity (as indicated by the colour of the square it lands on). Similarly, as the queen simply shuffles between a1 and a2, it changes parity every move. Now, as the knight needs to capture the rook on a light square when the queen is on a1, the same must be for whenever the pawn or knight lands on a white square. Hence, the initial pawn move must be 2. h3!!, not 2. h4??
