You can use a chest rig over a plate carrier and release some of the weight for rest when possible, keeping the armor, the rifle and the belt with the side arm as backup.

Even non-tactical backpackers...I use a chest rig with my backpack in order to put maps, compass, snacks, fire, tools, flashlights, pepper spray....first line gear stuff. I can drop my pack and still have all those items on my chest.

Definitely a great consideration. My brother does the same. It puts the essentials on your body separate from the backpack while redistributing the load and increasing efficiency

Chest Rigs suck when you hit the ground. Get an old ALICE set up and put the pouches on the side and back. My gunner had a chest rig as a turret gunner in Afghanistan and it was excellent in that application. When you leave the vehicle and become old-school infantry you need to get flat on the ground.

@@branned I assure you, everything has its pros and cons. Ours is setup for quick response, light duty ie: not running plate carriers and having the essentials, convenience for necessary items etc.

combat vet and former cop. yes this a great idea. I still have my setup from afghan. always in patrol car as well as ammo and ohshit bag plus a med bagwith everything. you can't protect and fight if you are not prepared.

Honestly, Black Multicam is a very versatile pattern. It's not full blown Camo but at night time it certainly helps breakup your silhouette.

How do the AR magazines stay in the carrier? I don't see any bungee cords, is it another system? How stable are magazines if one needs to run and make maneuvers, is the gear going to move around? Thank you.

They sit very low in the carrier as it stands with stromng elastic tension. You can always run a few velcro retention straps (the type the military uses which have shock cord on them) but truthfully, if you seat them low, they aren't going anywhere unless you're in extreme conditions.

While we don’t disagree, we find the majority of people would much rather Kit up in a chest rig than a plate carrier. They’re much more likely and truthfully, chest rigs are more versatile. Each has its place. What’s that saying “every shoe for the right foot”

I just added one to my second truck box. It will ride there atleast thru the elections and their aftermath. My gunbelt is more pistol centric although it does have two rifle mag pouches but the chest rig pluses up the rifle mags and adds significant medical. I am not quite ready to wear plates or even my second chance soft armor every day but the chest rig in the truck seems to me like a fairly low vis common sense approach.

Agreed everybody with those types of firearms needs a way to carry mags logically. However now all we need now, is someone to offer one, that anybody can afford. for like less than $40. Because those of us on minimum wage, or low fixed incomes, or even a wife that don't agree with our hobby, and cost to do so. Not all of us can get away with spending $50. + for gear that is essential to training or even when shtf. That's what I need is a good low budget priced chest rig that's decent and durable that will hold up to the rigors of any situation I put it through.. Of course there is always temu with some knockoff trash this is cheap priced, and cheap made but for a fraction of the cost as anybody else's when we would rather have USA made products

We have done our very best to reduce costs but honestly, we simply cannot produce a quality, deployable chest rig we would back for that price sadly. Quality materials cost ultimately.

I’ve run a Magpul both professionally and privately for about a decade now. I’ve never had one fail. Magpul MS4 to be specific. A lot of good, reputable brands, just what I’ve used, trusted and kept forsaken others.

I’ve always thought having magazines on your chest is such a bad idea. You’re most likely to take hits to center mass and it’s going to strike the mag and destroy it and send your rounds all over.

I would think a lost mag is a small price to pay for stopping or slowing down a bullet before it hits your chest or plate carrier.

@@williamharris7849 I disagree, you’re missing the point. The plate and plate carrier you’re wearing would do that. You’d be safe either way. With a magazine there you would then be (at least) 30 rounds less capable. If you think a magazine alone without a plate carrier would stop a bullet you are in for a hard life lesson my friend.

I have a fereday and sons chest rig an LBT and Rhodesian and a webtex flecktarn pattern chest rig I also have a split front chest rig with an ha harness from eagle industries. All are set up as DMR kits. The London Bridge Rhodesian is so sick so is the fereday and sons repro it’s not good for a repro it’s just good great gear
