Great video guys. I always preach choosing gear and weapons based on it's given mission and scenario. I currently train 4 different scenarios and purchase gear for them respectfully. Each scenario increasing in threat level and less-likelihood level. 1. EDC 2. Civil Unrest 3. Temporary WRL (Without Rule of Law) 4. Apocalypse. My EDC is standard stuff, Glock 43x, extra mag, tourniquet, knife and flashlight, bags in the truck bed for medical, survival and repair needs. For civil unrest, I think of it as EDC +. I think for this scenario there is still rule of law and authorities active, just a temporary crime spike. For this reason I don't believe any strong military gear or rifle is necessary here, or else you might attract more attention from police or mobs and get in more of a risky scenario (Kyle Rittenhouse comes to mind). But if I really have to venture out for something, I would supplement the EDC with a small non-tactical but capable backpack like a Northface Recon with a full IFAK, a few mags and perhaps add a gas mask in the bag if I have to go on foot, or in the car in case of a accidental tier gas/riot entanglement, and possibly wear thin concealable level IIIA soft armor like the Crye LVS for gray man protection under a hoodie. Key to this category is to stay gray man but supplement the EDC with valuables in a crime spike or riot. For Temporary WRL scenarios, this is where the plate carrier, helmet, battle belt and CQB rifle will come out. To defend property, neighborhood streets, guarding posts/patrol, or missions for supplies or to maybe rescue friends and families from more hostile locations. What's key in this scenario more than the gear is having much needed supplies to survive in the house for at least 3 months to avoid danger on the streets, as well as having a community of friends who can join you in a team to run missions and defend the community better if need be. Infantry gear isn't too important here as it's more of an urban guarding scenario and small unit direct mission scenario. NODs might be applicable here however to own the night. Number 4, apocalypse, is exactly that. The US gov is collapsed, civil war, foreign invasion, WW3 all of the above. Why we have the Second Amendment, to secure our free state baby, This is where militias will be forming and Ukraine style fighting in the streets. This is where the infantry gear comes out. Chest rigs, plates, NODs, thermals, ruck sacks, GPR rifle, tactics. War essentially. Life as we knew it will never be the same, a truly horrifying time. So based on these 4 categories and their order, I would prioritize what I purchase and train for first. I recommend following the order as the apocalypse is least likely compared to EDC and Civil Unrest scenarios. Priorities are truly necessary, I see more people buying NODs before they have a basic repair bag in their truck, or rifle plates before they have a medical bag in their vehicle or person along with med training. Prep and train for the most likely scenarios first then proceed. So square away the low vis gear before the infantry gear. Get excellent handgun training before training CQB with rifles. Buy a low vis thin IIIA soft armor vest before Level IV rifle plates, etc. Take all with a grain of salt just my philosophy on order of gear purchase and priorities of prepping/training. Hope this helps anyone who is overwhelmed with the vast amount of gear one is able to purchase. TLDR; - Step 1: square away your EDC. Handgun training, a capable weapon, medical gear, medical training, learn to repair your vehicle, prep those supplies in the truck along with survival equipment and additional medical as well. Trust me that's way more important than something like night vision, but work your way up accordingly.

@@monk729 I mentioned that in regards to "supplies" in the section detailing the Temporary WRL scenario. "...What's key in this scenario more than the gear is having much needed supplies to survive in the house for at least 3 months to avoid danger on the streets, as well as...". It goes without saying that supplies in that context include food, water, fuel, and other survival supplies.

@@guitarthrasher81 I would put in shelter needs like sand bags. If WORL happens, it is of 4 situations. 1. Invasion of an adversary. 2. Nuclear/emp attack. 3. Domestic threats. 4. Severe natural disaster. All of the above would require some sort of expiedant hardened shelter. If one is not already built.

This is a good mindset. I started training in 2020, and now I teach a bit here and there. While I would never purposefully make a gear hound feel bad for Training in their gear, for a lot of people it is an experience and not an education. So many civilians end up looking like MIL or LEO while they neglect entirely the EDC level of preparation and training. People leap-frog likely scenarios into an immediate worst-case imaginary scenario. They forget that the ability to walk in public armed to the teeth is both rare and dangerous. I haven't worn my battle belt for almost 4 years now. EDC pistol and edc support gear is always worn, and picking up a long gun usually gets some minimum support gear on chest rigs or something similar. It's not hard to up-gun on top of the EDC kit, and honestly, it covers 99% of scenarios.

The type and variety of gear available now is so incredibly overwhelming with all the Gucci choices. Back in my day, the mid eighties and early nineties, it was very simple; mostly Vietnam era GI issue gear, a “flak” or “f*cked” jacked, ALICE pack, para-cord, electrical tape, lots of duct tape, and cut up bicycle inner tube was as tacti-cool as it got. You had a set of gear for formations and inspections and another tricked out set for deployment. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked.

That’s why you shop around at surplus stores, to find out what works. It helps to get to know the owners, sometimes they’ll give you some great deals, and even hold onto items for you if you’re a little short on cash. Plus they’ll even keep their eyes open for anything you’re looking for in particular.

Best thing of trying gear or starting with budget gear is you have a second or third kit setup. It’s nice to have a second kit packed out to leave in a secondary place or in the event you need to kit up a buddy.

Fully agree that the belt should be step one. You can do most classes with nothing more than a belt, so long as you have magazines on you. Also having medical on your belt basically keeps it attached to you at all times. That being said, I’ve taught on the road for a few years now and find that I’m spoiled with Floridian laws. A lot of other states are pushing body armor bans, which frankly is more nefarious to me than gun bans. With that in mind, consider investing in plates or inserts for a carrier sooner rather than later even if you intend to work towards training in a carrier.

Good discussion. I can see this topic go forever. I know from experience that I need to run my belt and sidearm with a slight drop in order to get into my vehicle. It's always interesting to try your kit in realistic situations as much as you can to test.

Blackgear is a good example of not having your gear belt attached to your pants belt for this reason. You can move around your waist to get in a vehicle. Also, you want you to run your belt higher on your waist.

Ok, so first off I wish I was 30 something again. But I am not. I am now north of 66 and my door kicking days are over. Just FYI, I am retired LEO, and firearms instructor at the local, state and federal level. I still teach some CCW classes, but in my day our "Battle Belt" was are "Duty Belt", and we always trained using that. We may not have been in uniform, but I insisted on Duty Belt and vest. It was 1983 and we did not have much in the way of training aids back in that day. So, I created our first "realistic" firearms course. I modified an old DTS electronic cash register and using parts I scavaged from Copiers I built a reactive targeting system. So it was "Wired" not blue tooth or wireless like we have today. So, we would setup call scenarios (Armed Robbery in progress), at night, lights and siren going, driving into the range and engage the suspects "Fleeing" the bank. The pop up targets (which no one knew about) was great because It caught everyone off balance. Frankly, it was an eye opener for the Chief and Sheriff at the time. Well, enough of that. I just purchased a "KORE" Battle belt to assist me with traning those that want to be prepared as our nation takes a dump. Good stuff guys, and your never too old, just a little slower. Be safe and train hard.

I enjoy the content but you guys spend a lot of time telling people what they HAVE TO do. Very annoying. I have no problem with 'larping' or training in full kit. In fact, its absolutely neccessary. But the vast majority of people should be spending most of their time training for the most likely scenario they might find themselves in. That means training from civies and concealment and practicing carrying everything needed in a discreet way. That is a very neccessary skill set, probably more so than being uberly kitted out. This is mostly because people should not be trying to highlight themselves by being so overtly dressed unless they are working in a very sizable and capable group. I believe that all the tac gear can be a huge liability and usually ends up making people look really stupid "out in the wild." Partisans don't look like Soldiers for a reason. Partisans should look like partisans - as grey as possible.

As far ad belts go, I have two belts set the same way up, one black and one multicam. The black one, I used when I did security. It's by safelife and was very comfortable getting in out out of the patrol car. Held everything in place whenever I had to run with it. Reson I got a second was because I wanted something other than black so I got an AWS SMU. So far it seems to be a could belt but since I no longer do security, I don't wear it as much as I did the safelife. On the belts, set up is 2 pistol mags, 1 rifle, IFAK, dump pouch, knife, and holster.

Thank you for your great channel and your support for weapon SAFETY that KZbin is afraid to support ! Not on belt and chest rig always: fighting knifes, and zip on/off back pack for additional med/admin items. Looking into a velcro admin pouch for front of carrier. Have a chest rig but have committed to training in only plate carrier setup. I run steel because I have shot the RTS 3A+, and yes, anything can fail, the thing is with ceramic, its fragile, and once shot, its done. Yes it can take multiple rounds, but so can steel. If it couldnt we wouldnt be shooting it at the range. If it comes down to a SHTF situation, the ability to replace that ceramic quickly might not exist. Just my $.02

Focus on your budget and what’s comfortable. Look at what military surplus stores have to offer. Try stuff on to see how it fits, how it moves. Can’t find a size that fits, ask. Can’t find something in particular, ask, they’ll keep their eyes open for it. Their inventories change almost weekly. If you know someone who’s been outside the wire and down range, ask them to tag along and help you piece your gear together. If been to classes where people are talking about "what radio system should I buy" but they don't have an Ifak and if they have a tourniquet it's an amazon knock of. Get a good pistol, holster and light. A good rifle, sling and light. A solid method to transport a few extra mags for each. Then invest in individual first aid supplies, then buddy aid supplies. THEN the fun stuff like plate carriers, plates, comms, etc. You a WAY more likely to be in a so where you need a good first aid bag and training than your are to need a full assaulters loadout and training.

I have had to think about this kind of thing for awhile. And the best solutions i have found is a slick carrier, with some sort of load bearing set up. I run alice gear, and am looking at getting an H harness setup. My goal is that whatever gear you are running, you will need to stash it certain cases. Whenever this stuff will be used, you will be viewed as a combatant, and hostile by any surviving government entity. It is clear by current federal memo's that this is the case. Remember, even the colonial army were viewed as bad guys by certain people. The same will be said with this.

Most of my training and if I were to need the gear for real I’d be in the mountains and a pistol doesn’t have much of a place there. I have 7 mags on my chest rig right now and I’m going to change it up for more. I have land nav and medical in my chest rig also. If I need a pistol I can ditch the mag and insert in one of my jsta pouches and Velcro a holster in there. Belts get in the way of the hip belt on a ruck and I want to be comfortable carrying lots of weight so I’m effective when I need to be

Good points in your video. A tip, get a backpack that is comfortable to wear while you have a gun belt and carrier/chest rig on. I am lucky that my ruck has a wider shoulder strap setup so it is very comfortable to wear with the rest of my kit. Also, make sure you can bend down, sit in a vehicle, etc while wearing your kit (minus backpack of course). I thought I had my stuff setup the way I wanted it until I couldn't bend down fully or sit down. I ended up having to reposition a few of my pouches and now I got it to wear I can sit in a vehicle, bend down, etc.

Mission is supposed to drive gear. But "budget" is also a driver. Surplus gear is cheap enough that the extra money can be spent on ammo and training. For citizens, I feel a shoulder bag and rifle is the place to start. And most don't need more than that. But a chicom chest rig is also fantastic. For pistol people: I am a CCW but not a pistol guy. I believe most work needs to be done with a rifle. Or bigger.

I have bought into the message of "it's better to do a few things well than a lot of things poorly." And I have bought into the message that we want to be super flexible for "general issues" rather than super specialised.

Chest rig over a slick plate carrier is 100% what I would buy if I wasn’t stuck with an IOTV…
@CPLBSS88

having tried about everything, I settled on the DM MEPC and (modified) TAPS. The MEPC with a four mag placard and zippered pouch on the front but I can easily remove the placard (g hooks and velcro) and throw the TAPS on with or without the armor. Super versatile and honestly very affordable.

@@CPLBSS88 I have a quad mag panel by shaw on my IOTV with a TT triple mag pannel thing to my weak side. I like chest rigs just because I can take them off and on. Armor can be put on under if there is a threat and if not then go slick.

I spent way too much money starting with a carrier, belt, and chest rig all at the same time. I should have started with a belt and chest rig. I love my plate carrier, but I could have used that money to buy ammo and finish decking out my guns the way I want to. But I do love my plate carrier lol

@PonyBoy3000 I wouldn't say a waste. Because I do get a lot of enjoyment from the stuff I own. Range days are more enjoyable with a battle belt and chest rig! Necessary? Nah. Still worth owning? Absolutely! Plus, this is America. I don't need a reason to own that shit. Will I ever use it for its intended purpose? God, I hope not. But it's still fun to have.

Old (62) infantryman here who used to the old web belt w/ LBE for going "to the field", could use a recommendation for a modern, good quality battle belt and chest rig w/ removable (if possible) front & rear plate carriers. My EDC is a Ruger SR40c (40 S&W) in a Falco OWB holster + 17R spare mag that I carry on a regular leather belt for trousers.

Great content and information. I love the general style of the info that educates rather than pushing a specific brand, while still having an opinion. I want to know what your opinion is, but as important, if not more is the 'why' you think what you do. Knowing you are using or have used the gear is important to me. Semper Fi !!!!

If its putting me down or degrading my stuff..i tell them, till your paying the bill, or showing me something knowledgeable lets change the subject and enjoy this. I'll gladly listen to any advice possible...look at new possibilities but keep it funny but clean. Non of us are the same and not all of us are gonna have the (opinion) top of the top.👍

Agreed. Train with the gear you would use if a SHTF scenario were to occur. If you train without that gear why bother training? Because if a real SHTF event were to occur, and you neglected to train with the your gear, your ability to perform will likely suffer greatly. Sitting at a gun range bench is not training. The bench should only be used to zero you rifle.

I completely disagree with the “you need a ballistic helmet” sentiment. If I’m in full kit it’s likely I’m going against an enemy with rifles that a helmet will not protect me from regardless. Get the bump to hold your nods and comms.

I think unless you have the ability to get immediately medevac that a ballistic helmet does little good. Even if it is able to stop penetration, you are out of the fight and likely going to die or be permanently useless

There is literally nothing wrong with steel plates guys.... for SHTF id rather have steel plates that wont break if i drop my kit or if i actually end up getting shot... ceramic is lighter but its also a1 to 3 hit plate then its useless... atleast with steel i know i can rely on it when i dont have a support unit behind me and cant just replace em... also if weight is the issue than you have way bigger problems... im a usmc vet and i choose steel every time
