Rickets mean softening and weakening of the bones cause due to lack of vitamin D, calcium or phosphate... Bones gets soft then it will move inwards causing depression/ holes So, you can associate rickets with pectus excavatum.

Barrel chest isn't a disease , but it may indicate an underlying condition( such as COPD, emphysema, or CF) that develop a slight barrel chest in the later stages of the disease. Physical therapy and regular exercise can help but there are no remedies and interventions currently available to fully cure COPD, emphysema, or CF.

patient usually want to be treated because of the unusual appearance but there is no treatment for barrel chest specifically but the main goals of treatment are to manage symptoms and prevent further progression. Treatments will vary depending on the cause of barrel chest.(diagnosis of cause is important )..
