It's wonderful to have access to excellent drama through radio plays. Honestly I would willingly give up TV rather than radio. One can listen and knit at the same time and not missa thing. I got my first radio at 10 in 1975 and discovered drama, comedy, quizzes and listened to radio 4 mostly. Now we have 4 extra and youtube there is always something excellent to listen to. Thank you for uploading. ❤

This really is a hidden gem. I think Chekhov is a notable influence. A wonderful piece of radio theatre, superbly acted.

So much better than the majority of radio 4 drama currently (2024) of 40 mins length. No Saturday Night Theatre or Play for Today on TV. £30million of license fee wasted on a reality series, shelved after a few episodes.

Several examples of the human condition. This play presents them in an entertaining way. We learn about life through plays. Learn to experience it, recognize it, hopefully develop understanding and empathy for the player types we live with as we all preform on life’s stage as actors.

Thank you for the upload. I can’t help being grateful I wasn’t grown up in those days - the thought a woman would be pitied for remaining unmarried at 35! It was a man’s world, no mistake!
@Loki1815
@Loki1815 2 жыл бұрын
@MrsDormay: It certainly is a man's world, the god given right to go out to work for 12hrs a day, 5 days a week and then 8hrs Saturday and Sunday, just to pay the bills and keep the wolves from the door, which enables my wife to be a stay at home Mum, with all the modern conveniences to ease her day, bought and paid for by me. Please don't tell me how hard it is to look after, care for, the house and home along with the children! I did it for three months and it enabled me to get up two hours later than if I were at work, have the housework completed before the school run, shopping done by 10am, meals prepared by midday and the rest of the day is mine! Most of the school mums dispised me for the fact I had a routine and had everything completed by 08:30. They absolutely hated me explaining how easy and relaxing it was compared to being on-point constantly during my work hours, coming home in a gale and freezing torrential rain, to be met by my wife at the doorstep explaining there is a noise coming from under the car and then fixing her exhaust for the next two hours! Yes, it's a man's world all right, well it is if you cherry pick, Dangerous job, Heavy job, Die early, Suicide, front line Armed Forces, dirty, stinking job! I love my wife and placed her a pedestal, I do everything for her, I am the provider, the physical protector, the organiser, the shoulder to cry on, the handyman,! Don't get me wrong, I know my wife loves me and provides a loving home for me, cooks my meals and I am truly grateful and she knows this but she has never once said that she is grateful because like most women, she just expects it! Yes, you are right, it certainly is a man's world to put right, fight for, build up, tear down, remodel, make secure and provide for! My wife has never worked since the kids came along and even when they had left home, I am the sole provider, I don't mind this, I am happy that we are a tight working unit but let's not forget that I earned the money to afford to buy a four bedroom house in England, two cars, her Lexus and my Subaru, my two motorbikes and a three bedroom Villa in Spain on the Costa de Azahar, a runaround left hand drive people carrier, that came with the villa, its amazing how many family members need picking up from the airport! Not forgetting a small Sundancer boat that also came with the villa. It is all in both our names and will all become hers when I pop my clogs and not a penny was earned by her! Yep, it's a man's world...

How entertaining this story was and beautifully acted by players who could speak well. Far superior in every way to the "gritty dramas" of today with shabby language and tawdry scripting.

Makes me think of Chekhov in many ways; a lot of people standing around talking about nothing much, and an ending in which everyone is unsatisfied and unhappy. I found it a rather depressing experience.

This is quite relevant given the current situation in Ukraine. Unfortunately, as long as men are seduced by by absolute power we’ll continue to deal with the Putin’s of the world. If we don’t learn from history, we’re doomed to repeat it.

jeremypearson. Your opinion reflects your gullibility and naivety, that you make a judgement, when your news is censored and your ignorance of world events is palpable. Why is it that the world supports President Putin, but only NATO countries do not, could it be that the world knows the dirty tricks of the USA and the UK still trying to exploit and rule the world. The blackmail and military threats used to force weaker countries to fall in line with the US foreign policy is appalling, there is a fresh wind blowing in the international arena and we might live long enough to see the end of US Imperialism, and as a consequence less war, hunger caused by the American government.
