In the hush of midnight's shadowed tune, Chet's trumpet weeps beneath the moon. Notes like teardrops softly fall, Echoes of a melancholy call. In smoky rooms where shadows dance, Chet's horn weaves a forlorn romance. A solitary sigh, a lonesome cry, As melodies of heartache amplify. His trumpet whispers tales untold, Of love that's young, and love grown old. Through muted brass, a mournful plea, A requiem for lost ecstasy. A lonely street, a dim-lit bar, Chet's music drifts like a fading star. In every chord, a soul laid bare, A sonnet of sorrow suspended in air. Each breath he takes, a heavy sigh, A wistful echo, a muted goodbye. Through amber notes, the pain unfolds, A symphony of sorrows, stories untold. The night embraces the mournful sound, As Chet's trumpet weeps, unbound. A ballad etched in shadows deep, In the music of Chet, the sadness seeps.

Thanks a lot for sharing this video Dietmar ! And some good news :-) For the occasion of Philip's 75th Anniversary, Warner Music France just released on 24 Nov 2017 a 5 CD-Box : ‘Selected Works 1974-1982’. It includes Philip's 4 classic albums 'September Man’ (1974), ‘Guitars’ (1975), ‘Babel’ (1980), ‘End of August’ (1982) and a previously unreleased recording 'Solo Bremen 1979 & 1982’ album. A complete booklet with notes by some great musicians and the original vinyl artwork faithfully reproduced, except ‘Solo Bremen’ which is illustrated by a painting by great artist Gilles Fiszman.

Well spoken! The live version of this tune with Orsted Pedersen on bass is pure magic. As is the studio version the same year (1979) on "Broken Wing" with J-F Jenny Clark on bass. All essential if you love Chet.

this may have been the gig where he opened the show for dizzy's band.. we show up at the club and chet is sitting backstage ..dizzy asked him why he wasn't on stage.. chet said he didn't have a mouthiece !! dizzy looked at him like he was out of his mind and gave him one of his to use for the set..
@mollegiante3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, it was not. The double bill with Dizzy was in February 1987 and unfortunately not televised. This was about a year earlier on the annual Hamburg Jazz Festival which was co-sponsored by the NDR, the local TV station and therefore filmed. By the way I heard you play with Dizzy every time you performed in Hamburg, together with Ignacio Berroa (did I get the spelling right?) and the incomparable Sam Rivers. The best night was January 1988 when Dizzy's chops were in great shape. He played two sets and played a lot. The last one was a double bill with Betty Carter in the Musikhalle in 1991. He signed one of his Verve Albums for me that night.Thanks for all your incredible playing!

I don't know honestly, everyone played way more better than this in "Diane" album, especially Chet. May be they weren't high enough.

+themusicofmiles No man, the video was cutted, don´t you see that on the audio the bass is on high register, and on the video he is playing on the low register, right on the cut..

@themusicofmiles8 жыл бұрын
+Felipe Gianei there's a cut at 7:08, in effect, but that's not the matter. between 7:11 and 7:29 I can't hear the correct form they play A° D7 to Gm which is bar 20 to 21 at 7:12-7:14 they're still ok on Bbm7 bar 25 at 7:22 but four bars are missing at the end of the chorus at 7:28 where bass and guitar go the the top of the form
