You should consider doing a few informational videos on a couple different things like bending processes tips & tricks type of thing also with the grinding you do to help fit the tubes, finding & applying measurements. Most people know the majority of the tools you use but using them as effectively as you do is the difference. Great work though keep it up

I've been watching your video and learning a lot to what I gotta do with my Pontiac Lamans. Thanks. Also, I have a question why are you drilling gas expansion holes? I never heard of anything like that before . I don't have a tube bender. Most likely we'll just buy a road cage kit and welded in. Just exactly how you're doing it.
@keefershotrodshop
@keefershotrodshop 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. The gas expansion holes are there so that as the tube heats up from welding and air inside of it heats up and expands, that air has a place to go instead of through the molten puddle of the last weld on the tube that would seal it completely if the system of holes were not in place. If you let everything cool and are quick with the last weld, I've heard that weldments can be successfully completed without the holes, but I do not want to take the unneeded chance that the weld puddle will blow out and make a mess and contaminate my tungsten because it was blown out from pressure inside of the tube. Thanks again for watching, and good luck with your project! I like LeMans', I want to find a '65 one day.

@@davidvonanderseck8649 If you stick weld your cage together, it won't be legal to race in NHRA. You can MIG weld a mild steel cage, but if you make it from chromoly, it has be be TIG welded. If you do MIG weld your cage, I'd recommend using shielding gas. NHRA and some other sanctioning bodies are specific with that sort of thing if you want to race at events/tracks sanctioned by them. Thanks again and good luck with your project!

How much angle forward or backwards do they allow on that main hoop?
@keefershotrodshop
@keefershotrodshop Жыл бұрын
In the SFI 25.5 book, they allow up to 20 degrees for main hoop lean-back, If I remember correctly. Interestingly, I don't think that the 25.3 or 25.2 books say anything about angle, but I'd have to check on/verify that. Thanks for checking out the video!

Why don't you use a 17 or even a 9 torch? Would have a lot more room. Also, as many cages as you do, have you thought about a tig button? I wanted to watch your 25.3 videos, but movement made me sick. This video is a lot better. Hopefully I can catch up from here.

Hi, the torch i use is a 17, and I actually have a #9 for tight spots. I haven't needed to switch to it yet for this project, but might as I finish up all of the welds. Someone else brought up a hand control for the torch, I know someone who used to use one, and I have considered something like that, but typically the pedal can be made to work, even in crazy positions. My older videos on the Nova project are definitely shaky, I didn't really have any filming equipment, other than my ipod, so I hope you feel better soon from them making you sick. Also, I'm glad the newer videos are better, I try to make them a lot more stable. Thanks for watching and following along!

@@funfun8095 I don't have much experience with aluminum or high amperage stuff. Check out Chris Razor, Steve Morris interviewed him, and he gave a lot of insight into that stuff; small torches with aluminum. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIPbcnSEptKlgpI
