Chevrolet 7.4l 454 Fuel Pressure Regulator Replacement!

Just got my K2500 back together with new Bosch injectors, ACDelco FPR, new cap and rotor, plug wires, and anything else replaceable while it was apart. Runs awesome with no more warm engine hard start. Thank you for showing your positive attitude tearing yours down making it seem less intimidating and also thank you for showing the torque specs!!!!

Watch the vid before I did it on my truck and by watching it I noticed that the intake didn’t need to come off just the distributor so I try it today and it works by just removing the distributor it saves hours of work.

Weak fuel pumps can create a lean condition, same engine swapped in two different Nissan 240sx proved this with my issue. Hard starts with one, no issue with the other.

Certainly can, the fuel pressure gauge will tell you that story for sure. Critical tool for this kind of situation.

I found the vac tube cracked on mine. it was rather challenging to get it right. but the reg itself was fine. Vac leaks are massive on these systems.

So how did you test the temp sending unit with your autel? What am I looking for?

I just looked at the temp sensor signal from cold to warm up. It'll be obvious, if it climbs up then settles at 180 to 190ish then it's working right. If it is sporadic or sticks at a low number it's faulty

If it's the same engine then yes, I don't have a clue what they have in the boat though lolol. Ours is just a regular ole GM 350 and its no different than what you'd find in a vehicle other that the cooling.

I'm sorry buddy, I have no idea. I should have checked but I didn't. Truck ran great after and I just returned it. It is one of my neighbors though and he's still driving it, so maybe I can follow up soon.

I dont know if you will see this but i could really use some help . I got a 99 chevy 3500 hd. 454. I replaced the fuel pump .the regulator .an it still peters out when i am trying to give it gas in gear. I replaced the filter to it has some really nast stuff in it. When i had the manifold off i cycled the key an all the injectors were workin i dont know how much they each should spray out tho. I i do know its around 45 to 48 psi and when i rev it after its warn it drops below 40 as im hitting the gas is it supposed to go up when i rev.

Well, if I'm being honest I have no idea what the fuel pressure should be at any given point. I think in theory it should stay steady on not move, but I doubt in real world application that is the case. That being said, I actually just bought one of these recently and it runs perfectly. So if you haven't found your solution by the time I get back from vacation next week, I will slap my fuel pressure gauge on and report my readings if you'd like. Sorry I cant get it done quickly. With that information we should be able to get you headed in the right direction for a solid repair.

It could, I'd rent a pressure guage from the auto parts store or grab a cheap and check the pressures over time. That's the best way too know for certain

Did you use both clips that came with the fuel pressure regulator?

Oh man, it was sometime ago and my memory isn't the best. I'm pretty sure only the snap ring is used on this engine. If you pay attention removing yours it should be very evident.

The Schrader valve right behind the upper coolant hose coming out from under the intake. Should have a black cap on it
