Reminds me of the GM plant I worked at...I really enjoyed the video and when I saw him put the plate on it which read built with pride in the USA by GM and UAW I shed a tear for it took me back to the passion for perfection that I took to my job everyday. I would think of the great teamwork and American spirit that put a man on the moon and planted a flag on the sands of Iwo Jima. I took great pride in a quality job well done and setting a production record that will never be broken....right up to the bittersweet moment of running that last part. The factory is gone but the spirit lives on.

I like this way making an engine all by himself a lot. This is the way to make one engine today. He's careful on many, dust issue he's pretty much aware. Bolts are all equal, Gaskets are all evenly tight. Why not being USA made? No one else does it in that manner. Plus I like the latest design of Corvette. Be proud! If you are not. I'm proud!

The LS series of V8's has just surpassed a Toyota engine as the 2nd most produced engine ever behind the VW flat four, but should pass that within a few years. Everyone uses the LS crate engines in their car builds. You will find Mustangs, Dodges with LS engines. Go to a high end car show, 60% of the cars have an LS no matter the make. Race or street cars also have the LS's. You could combine all the latest Dodge Hemi's and Mustang crate engines, they combined still sell less than 15 percent of what the crate LS engines sell.

Congratulations, Mr. Priest, on a job well done. You, sir, are clearly a craftsman. I have a '98 C5 with a plain vanilla, line built LS1. It currently has 170 KMiles on it and still runs beautifully-one quart of oil every 3 KMiles. It's just one darned fine engine in a car that is always a treat to drive.
@jerrylawler44316 жыл бұрын
@frank My brother and I built a little 289 for a '66 ford galaxie, and it never used ANY oil in 10,000 mi. because we ran it that long without an oil change just to see if it would or not. I think we are a couple of pretty good builders too, huh?

@@jerrylawler4431 what I have learned is to build an engine that doesn't leak or burn oil, you need 2 things. 1 you need to build it right,. 2 you need to do the first oil change at 3,000 miles max, I prefer 1,000 miles first oil change. If you don't break it in right and get your initial oil change fast they will always be oil burners.

Why does everybody skip the good stuff? A crank only installs one way. Yet every single video shows it like it's something to see. Show us how the bearings are located and installed consistently. How do they get in the right spot so that you done have bearing jammed into the radius of the crank because the bearing is too far to one side? Instead, we see the same thing. Again and again and again. Crank installed. Heads dropped on. Drop the intake and induction system on and BAM! Engines done.

A lot of non Corvette or Camaro owners complain about no overhead cams. The overhead cams on the Ford Mustang GT add 40 pounds of weight to the top of the motor and affect handling because the center of gravity is much higher, and this extra 40 lbs is in the front of the car further affecting handling. If you drove the Corvette, you would experience a very pleasant driving experience, and really appreciate what and old tech 2 valve pushrod engine can do. Our 2014 Corvette Z51 does a very real zero to 60 in 3.8 seconds, and still delivers 29 mpg consistently going down the road.

What difference does it make if a robot uses tools to ASSEMBLE an engine or a person uses the same tools to do the same thing ? If anything the robot will make fewer if any mistakes and do it consistently.
@celtekrider28 жыл бұрын
+TheAceHD To be honest if you look at the way a Bugatti engine is made or something that is ACTUALLY high class quality, than you can see how humans can do things robots cannot. GM on the other hand is just kinda knocking it off, no offence but that engine doesn't take special treatment unlike the tranny in that beast. But the other aspect is that when they use people to build the car and not machines, it makes the rarity of the vehicle go up which legally lets manufactures like GM technically can raise the car in value. If machines built them it wouldn't make the car as special to some people as well as rarity.

@woodway118 жыл бұрын
No chance for "cross-threading" there?
@jcr88348 жыл бұрын
the threads are likely recessed a bit and the bolt would align as it enters is my guess. especially seeing it on engines I've built.
@samuelblake6 жыл бұрын
All automated torque wrenches reverse the thread (lefty-loosey) until the bolt/screw goes "pop." It then knows it's aligned for tightening. Side question....doesn't everyone reverse all (lefty-loosey) screws/bolts before going righty-tighty, until you feel the "pop/bump" I just described????? You CANNOT cross-thread bolts/screws when using this method.
@mattmoschkau28315 жыл бұрын
Nope, the computer controlled wrenches can usually sense it before it occurs, factory defect rate is much lower.
