Working on a 350 Chevy myself it’s in a 87 g20 conversion van I’m new to working on vehicles been doing a lot of my own work trying to atleast seeing the part 2 of this video would be really useful

Sorry Kelson, I did have a part 2 of this video all made up and ready to go, but after I sent the motor away for machining they found some cracks in the casting so I stooped moving ahead with it. I meant to delist this video actually, and totally forgot about it. On a related note, I've been eyeing up some conversion vans myself latley, they would make for great campers while hunting. Especially the 4wd conversions

Great find. Looking forward to seeing the second video

Sadly, there probably never will be a second one. I do have it filmed and completed (someplace) but I found out just after I completed it that the small block had a small crack that only got noticed when the machine fluxed it. I ended up with a 454 though, which was probably less than the rebuild would have costed for the 350, so I'm not too upset by it.

@@RustRehab sounds great! 454 should be a torque rich alternative to the 350; and, will be a great fit for the R180! Looking forward to seeing the progress

Ow no it's got a frame oil filter on it run for the hills LoL when you put new oil in it use a better oil filter. There's a story from a young kid that I work with at a garage company every day. He told me a story about his auto shop teacher used a frame oil filter on his older Buick or Oldsmobile and the fram oil filter failed blown up the motor. I thought wow but I kinda sorta didn't believe him because I used fram oil filters on one of my cars twice and I didn't blow my motor up. So I went on you tube couple of days later. A video came up with a comparacent between different oil filters fram Napa gold wix and can't remember the name of the last one. The guy said theses oil filters were all brand new and he just got them at the auto parts store. He was going to cut each one in half to look inside and see how the filters looked inside come to find out there was spots of rust inside the Fran oil filter. I couldn't believe it I was shocked to see that. Good video sorry it was so long. Just wanted to let you know.

I'll make sure to avoid fram for sure! There's one other brand I hear people say to avoid too but I can't remember off the top of my head what it is :/

Where part 2
@RustRehab3 жыл бұрын
Sorry man, I did have part 2 pretty well made up but I got word before I put it out that there was a hairline fracture on that block after I dropped it off at the machine shop. They found it with magnafulx, so I didn't bother with the second part because I won't be using it in my truck. I got a big block to replace it

Looks good to me looks complete
@RustRehab4 жыл бұрын
It ended up having a cracked block, small enough that it was only picked up with magnafulx. That's why I never bothered to put out the second part. Ah well, I have a 454 now to go with it

I don't think those are double hump heads. Those look like 882 or 993 or 997 heads. What are the casting numbers on em
@RustRehab3 жыл бұрын
The block ended up being cracked, could only see it once it was magna fluxed so I sold the heads off to someone who could use them. I did end up verifying the heads, but I can't remember what they were now. Nothing spectacular for sure. I have a big block now that's going to go in

@@RustRehab yeah prolly 882s decent heads with some work. Just picked up a pair of 1970 186 Double Humps with 2.05 1.85 valves and comp springs for 300 bucks. Going on my 82c10. Video on my channel. Def gonna subscribe buddy 😎

Enjoy your videos but I have to ask why are you thinking performance in a heavy heavy farm truck that is geared for about 55 mph and even if you could go faster why would you want to probably doesn't handle well or brake well being a heavy truck. I know this as I have a 45 2 ton dodge and after talking to some people I found out I would have to change rear end which than I would be changing wheels rims ride height and after all that the old truck would not be the truck I fell in love with. Realistically there is a limit to what you can do on these things most of these trucks only had a 100 horse power from the factory and could haul tons of weight way more than today's trucks.
@RustRehab3 жыл бұрын
You're spot on with that analysis for sure. My rear end is geared hopelessly low, and I don't plan on changing it out, but it's more a matter of just being unable to help myself when it comes to tinkering and leaving well enough alone. The small block seen in this video ended up having a minor crack, it was only visible after being magna fluxed so it got tossed. That's why I never bothered to release the second video. I ended up with a 454 that I plan on popping in, but I'm not tearing it down or improving I'm just going to run it as it is. I'm looking for an Nv4500 trans with a Chevy bellhousing, available in some half ton and larger chevs, but I'm having a hard time finding one. They're geared a bit taller than the international trans was, should help a little with speed. So will putting on larger tires. I'm making an effort this year to fight off the "project creep" on this truck and get some more work done, because at the end of the day it's always going to be more of a "passion project" than it is a show or performance machine.

I did have a second video made up, but the shop I sent it off to magnafluxed the block and found a crack, so I went with a big block instead. I didnt want to bother uploading another video for an engine that wouldn't be put back together
