at a tractor pulling vvent I`ve also seen People cranking the engine for some time while looking down the intake... when signed be the mechanic, the driver turned on the ignition and the engine fired up. what do they check there ?

+bobl78 Im not sure what they would be looking down the intake at. However, with many high performance race engines, it's standard practice to turn the engine over without fuel/ignition for a bit. This builds oil pressure within the engine and allows for proper lubrication before firing it up. With such tight tolerances on high performance engines, damage could occur if they simply just started it up.

This thing probably has a mechanically driven fuel pump, and they are looking for fuel from the injectors. Better be DAMN sure the ignition is dead, a backfire would be no fun!!!

Jesus, stop cranking the motor over so long. Not sure if it has a sump or if a sump takes care of the problem, but you don't get oil pressure off a starter. As far as I know, most engine set ups don't account for cylinder walls wiping clean and oil can't do it's job. It takes a lot of dry cranking to fuck cylinder walls up, but even so, I don't like dry cranking that long. Whatever.
