Remember that there is two different types of deals depending on the year of your GM and engine, make sure you purchase it from the GM dealer by giving them your vin # to ensure they give you the right front main seal

Carlos - I want to thank you for making this series of videos. I had a front seal leak on my 2002 Trailblazer and this was exactly the steps I needed. I like your style and the good humor about the neighbor's bike without you being an egomaniac. Videos are to the point with enough detail and good video quality to really be useful. I found some of the tips and advice you gave to be VERY helpful as I did this job on my own last weekend. I am so glad you pointed out there may be two different versions of the front seal because of course the folks down at the auto parts gave me the wrong one initially. Having both on hand was the way to go because as soon as I got the old one out, it was clear which one of the two I was going to need. Thanks for the good work!

The harmonic balancer was out of balance that that can cause internal engine damage to the crankshaft, and bearings, so while at it I replaced the front main seal.

How did you keep the engine from turning to remove and torque the bolt?

good evening! to remove the bolt I used a 800 lbs torque impact gun and it loosen right away. To torque it back on I used a flywheel tool they sell on line or at your local auto parts store. this locks the flywheel in place. then torque to 110 ft lbs afterwards turn it a half a turn 180°. hope this helps and make sure you use the right deal for your vehicle, there are 2 different ones.

NC - When I did this job I took a nylon tie down and wrapped it around the balancer until it tightened on itself then I hooked the tie down to the lower frame member and it worked like a champ.

BTW - I removed it with the impact like Carlos mine came right off. The Tie down was used to put back in place.

Did it leak oil from the front area ? Before you changed it

No leaks prior to changing it, the problem was the harmonic balancer, it was vibrating, but while doing that it is a must to replace the front main seal.

Carlos so which seal is the right one. Is it 621 or 622?

Good evening sir, the best advice I can give you is to purchase your seal from the dealership and give them your vin#. I bought both of them just in case The motor had been replaced at some point. I didn't want to be held up from finishing the job cause of having the wrong seal.

I purchased the harmonic balancer from O'Reilly's auto parts, they offered the best deal and a good brand. It was around $230
