Sir, my hat is off to you. You are performing a public service.It is good to see young men working with their hand instead of getting into trouble with the law.As to the V-6 what was wrong with doing an oil pressure check? Same for the cylinders. A compression check would have been my choice.Who is going to pay for the repairs if necessary?This is none of my business but from the way you treat these guys it is wonderful to witness. Where wee you when I was growing up?Thank you fro sharing, Ken
@805ROADKING10 жыл бұрын
kenskip1 Thanks alot Ken!! You can't really check anything the way that engine was!! With all that water in it, it wouldn't have any oil pressure because you wouldn't be able to start it and checking the compression with all that water would just ruin a good compression gauge!! My Buddy was gonna pay for the repairs but instead gave me the boat, so I absorbed all the cost!!☺

Them Tri Legged engine stands are a little tippy lol! See a buddy in school drop his fully rebuilt 340 and crack the block! BUT He was in a "Rush" To move it lo!! Nice to see your pulling her apart and doing her right! Big boat like that in fast moving water could be vary scary with out a motor running!
@805ROADKING10 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah that stand is about 40 years old!! I don't even think they make them with 3 legs any more!!☺

A good move doing the inspection / rebuild . I did some work on a 4.3 vortec truck motor. = hoisted out , dropped pan , did oil pump, rear main seal replaced and the rest looked ok . I have been driving it near a year now. I really like the 4.3 chevy. of course yours would be the marine version but internally motor should be similar. Thanks .I'll be following your progress etc.

I always love your vids and especially the series ones. Make sure you get all of the steps recorded for us to enjoy. Unless there was a big heat problem the motor should be OK because they are really not used much. If it has a Hobbs meter enlighten us on the number of running hours.

jbm banter Thanks JB!! It did have an hour meter, but it wasn't working!!☺

Prime example of the 'shade tree mechanic' concept especially using the tree.

the 4.3 is basically a 350 missing 2 cylinders. I have one in my truck. I got my rebuild kit from northern auto parts.
@805ROADKING10 жыл бұрын
burninpwder76 Yeah the only thing different in the marine version are the cam, head gasket, and freeze plugs!!☺

since having all winter to rebuild it, why not do some modifications such as port and polish inlets and outlets. Big fan of your videos. Keep it up, you know you're the king. Cheers!

evoTimer Thanks Bud!! A 6 cylinder isn't worth putting any money or time into any kind of modifications!!☺

Obviously you don't know anything about boats! It would cost way too much money, plus more weight, more fuel, alot more work, And to do it right you would have to change the gearing in the Outdrive! There is nothing wrong with those 4.3L! You can squeeze around 250HP out of that 4.3L with ease! I did it to my 1987 4.3L With a OMC Cobra drive, And that was 22 years ago! No issues to either the engine or the Outdrive to this day!
