Why? So you can lose low end torque?
@frosteone16703 жыл бұрын
@@christianmotley262 Cam choice is always a torque/horse power trade off. I have no problems breaking the tires loose on take off, solid shift into second produces complaints from tires again. My 4.3 is far from stock, 10.2 compression, larger valves and ported heads. That being said, Yes I would trade some low end torque for more high end horsepower.

@@elreyyakko Crankshaft was ground and indexed. Block bored .030 and decked slightly to match both sides and ensure the deck was 90 degrees from each other. Mains were line honed. Factory rods were clipped and resized, pin end bushed, then balanced. Full groove main bearings and Manley high volume oil pump. Heads were cut for hard valve seats to receive the 2.02 intake valves and 1.60 exhaust valves. Several hours spent smoothing up the ports and matching them to the intake manifold. Milled heads and cleaned up combustion chambers some plus cc'd Manley stainless steel valves, replaced valve guides with bronze inserts. TRW forged pistons with slight dome, result was 10.0 to 1 compression. Double moly rings, both top and second ring. Pro Comp 266HR Cam as I previous stated I wish I'd used the 270H Pro Comp hydraulic roller lifters. Pro Comp Valve springs recommended for the cam. Pro Comp steel valve spring retainers and keepers. Pro Comp Magnum full roller rocker arms with locking nuts. Cloyes timing chain and gears. Chrome moly pushrods. Replaced poppet injectors with GM upgrade to actual injectors. Reprogrammed computer, I own an EFI Live programmer BBK throttle body and aftermarket MAF (no screen) If your curious about this let me know and I'll go look and see what it is. Aluminum body distributor and MSD ignition. Transmission was fully performance rebuilt including a 2500 rpm stall converter I worked in a speed shop for many years. When I did this build I used a friends speed shop that had all the equipment. I really enjoy driving this truck, it's now over 22 years old. This might help you or somebody who is planning on building a s10 in with a V8. Everyone always said if you get one with a 4.3 it will sit right in. That is not true. You still have to get the motor mounts plates regardless of what engine it had in it and definitely run the Shorty headers because if you wanna run full length you need to relocate the oil filter and the transmission I had came out of an 88 Chevrolet long wheel base so it had a long tail transmission and it set back in the stock location of the crossmember with no modifications to the driveshaft either. I can tell you this from experience not hearsay because I put this truck together myself but that being said I would build a 4.3 simply because you can make it have plenty enough power considering the weight of the truck and it’s simply not what everybody else does.

Rocker arm studs sizes should be related to the expected RPM range. If you built a torquer, you are rarely if ever going to see 5k RPMs. Big studs and rocker arms, and valve springs are just not needed, unless you are seeing 6k+ RPM regularly like in a drag car. Roller tip rockers are nice because they reduce friction/wear but doubt you'll notice performance from them because a torquer (engine with high torque vs HP), isn't going to be running in high RPM hardly ever. My question is, did you put in flat top pistons or run the stock dished ones?

Can even send them out for a tune or use a canned tune. The factory computer can tune themselfs a little bit also. I know someone running 70ish Camero w a turbo runs in the 7's using a LS engine with a factory gm computer. Sniper is only throttle body so you loose some power vs multiport. @mobilemowers Жыл бұрын
I am not a professional engine builder. I get my advice from my local shop from what I don't know. Talk to who is doing the machine work. I do know if your doing a turbo you want lower compression. Thats why guys buy used engines with miles on them and never do the rings. They already have low compression from use. If you use new rings you really have to open the gap. Power Block TV / Power Nation did a 4..3 Tubro build with over 300hp on KZbin. Super chargers I think can do normal to little more then stock compression easy. They have super chargers that bolt right where the ac compressor would be, Google takes me to www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-12-704-8/make/chevrolet for a camshaft for boosted cars. Just be carefull and never go to high of a cam. You will loose bottom end. Been thier. You can call Comp Cams and ask them. Wait times can be crazy The 2003- 14 LU3 4.3L have injectors for each cylinder not the crappy spider injectors. They are like the 90's LT1's and the 99-up 5.3 ect Vortec's. Might want to swap over to that setup for guys with the older engines. Stock stall converters on a V6 already are higher. So use the stock one. Putting a VY convertor on a V8 will wake it up. Also the V6 trans can go in a V8 the parts interchange may tell you otherwise cause of the stall. I have V6 trans and convertor in my 94 K1500 w 350. Did video's on that. I also posted recently a video of the truck running, Hope this helps. Please like this video and maybe subcribe. Helps my video's and channels get noticed more with thier metrics.

When the shop was checking it for fuel pressure when the top intake was off lots of gas ran in the lower intake. At 60 psi or so a decent amount of gas comes out in 20-30 seconds. But the bottom lIne is YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, SO KEEP IT UP AND GET ER DONE. The Keith Black/ UEW web site has a parts look up for their parts, I think those pistons will work just fine. I am swapping a 91 4x4 4.3 v6 into my 75 2+2 four cylinder Monza 4 speed to automatic. The why not birds on the side lines will say WHY NOT A V8. I say YOU DIDN'T KICK IN THE MONEY OR LABOR TO MAKE IT HAPPEN, PLUS MY 79 MONZA HAS A V8, THIS WILL BE DIFFERENT.Keep going it will be SWEET WHEN IT'S DONE.

Exactly you will have issues spring height w more weight, the engine ecu won't control the ls, with the dash working, factory, security controls the trans working and emissions controls.

@@mobilemowers You get it exactly! When the time comes to go that route, you will put both feet into it, and knock it out the park. I like to think previous projects are skill builders getting you ready for the next one. Go get er done, and have fun with your ride!

I believe you meant performance

Well it was during the build. Like a pre owned car nowadays.

Why not buy a nice reman motor? Alot less work plus you get a warranty to boot.

It's call proformance. I wanted more compression, larger cam, bigger springs and high volume oil pump. Plus wanted it done right. The title to the video is not stock 4.3 swap. It's a build and proformance mentioned. Anyone can buy a stock engine at the store. Sorry 160-180ish horse power is not my thing. Sorry for late responce I just do this as a hobby and for the past few years of this never made one dime from you tube. They did that 1,000 plus subscriber bs.

@@mobilemowers so what you did you only spent 1000$ that's before the parts you had forgotten after the video was done?? I am looking at rebuilding my 4.3 which I think the head gasket blew due to over heating. The shop manager said it would be cheaper to get a new engine or reman but I want the power
