More cam! More valvespring! More turbo! 730ft/lbs tells me there's a whole lot left in the horsepower department. I bet 800 is easily done if you get a bigger turbo to carry the boost out along with a bigger cam/valvespring.

Bought a 2016 Silverado back in January. Now, before I made the purchase I did some research on the difference between the V8 and V6 models. I was absolutely blown away by the power these new 4.3's are making! So, I saved 3k$ on the truck I bought vs the V8 one and took it to Montana this summer with about 700 lbs of stuff in the bed including my sportster. Did friggin great man. Anyhoo, I have an 88 s10 that I plan on doing the big "LS swap" into, and I think I've pretty well changed my mind on that😁 I even have a supercharged 3.8 out of a gtp that I planned on using, but now, the lv3 I believe will be the new small motor of choice for swaps and hot rodders. Thank you so much for doing the r.n.d for getting some great power out of these V6 monsters!

This engine came out right after I built my stroker 303 cubic inch 4.3 V6 back in 2013. The LV3 V6 runs as hard on the Dino as my stroker even though mine’s NA. My stroker 4.3 is running a forged 30 degree evenfire Scat 3.875 inch stroke crankshaft. H beam rods, forged pistons, 4 bolt mains, Brodix aluminium heads with a bolt pattern the accepts a tbi or cyclone intake manifold. It’s pushing 320hp with a 454 tbi. The torque is crazy. Can’t wait to put a marine 4barrel manifold on it with a Holley EFI. The LV3 has a lot of potential, imagine it with a custom stroker crank?👍
@alexvillalobos71372 жыл бұрын
It seems we have a lot of work to get power out of the 4.3 vortec. Is a marine intake and a carb be helpful with a cam. I’ve haven’t heard anything good about cams on these engines. The only easy rout I see is nitrous. I wouldn’t mind a 50-75 shot I have an 02 2 dr extreme but I have to redo the whole exterior and interior…. They stole it messed with it inside and out then stole the cat and crashed it… so many tickets and a beat truck. I will restore it get a race cat maybe a new bed and new sound system. Insurance gave me $4000 for the whole thing prob need 1000 to make it cali legal but with $3000 and lot and lots of work I will be a make it better than before….

I have an idea for a custom cam spec for you guys to consider with the LV3 engine. So, basically, keep the intake centerline at 107 degrees no matter what (with 0-deg cam adv or ret), then make the LSA either 107, 108, or 109 depending on if it's for 10-10.5, 11-11.5, or 12-12.5:1 compression, respectively. Basically, for every point of compression, you want a change of about 1 degree LSA, but the intake centerline is based on the cylinder volume compared to valve size, so unless you bore or stroke it (and somewhat significantly, at that) or significantly change the valve area, that should stay about the same. Then dial in your duration to have a total overlap at the advertised duration lift of 20, 40, 60, 80, or 100 degrees of overlap. Those will be the "stages" and will determine streetability vs peak power production. Obviously, the first one with only 20 degrees of total overlap at the advertised duration (measured at .006 lift, AFAIK) would be the most stock-like in terms of rev range and idle. It'd be, essentially, an optimized towing cam. The 40 would be a mild street cam that could still be used for towing. I suppose you could call it a "hot truck" cam. And so on. Then just dial in as much lift as you can with either of those to manage piston to valve clearances. Also, any heads you make, focus on keeping the combustion chambers as small as possible (so people don't need high dome pistons, which messes up the quench) while unshrouding the valves and smoothly shaping the bowl(IDK as much abt this yet). Also, go a step further and add another angle to the valves, making the seats 30 degrees instead of 45, and then stepping up to 45, 60, 75, and so on as normal. Lastly, for your port work, do what David Vizard teaches in all his books and videos. If you can do that and manage to offer sets of heads for under 1000, you'll have the best LV3 shelf parts on the market.
@csj9619 Жыл бұрын
Not a bad choice, especially when there's performance parts available. The heads are so good, a cam (and possibly turbo) is all you need. I'm really impressed by the torque production throughout the rev range. Nice work on the cam design!

Big block power that you don't have to pay for when you're not using it. The lv3 is like a 5.3lt with two cylinders chopped off not like the 1st sbc or 2nd gen vortecs like yours so this cam wouldn't work nor would it specd out the same for your vortec because the lt heads way outflow the vortecs so the only way a cam with those same specs work is if you had the head decked slightly, ported, cold air intake with k&n, and full exhaust with a tune and it'd still probably be a little too big. Not saying you couldn't upgrade to a good cam that would work with your set up either just not one this aggressive..

I've been researching this for my truck for a long time. LT adapter brackets should bolt it right in, same bellhousing pattern minus a bolt, if you wanna keep direct injection you'd need some help tuning the stock computer or you could convert it to multi-port like they did. Dropping it in and not touching it you're already faster than a GMC Syclone so it all depends what you want from there.

@@raystevens687 Not a problem. I know it was kinda open ended but beyond putting it in the truck it's down to personal preference. You can stick a 4L60 behind it and cruise as it is or go nuts and put a 6 speed manual and twin turbos behind it. The sky is kind of the limit since they share many components with the LT. It'll take some fabrication skills to either build or cut down and re-weld V8 bits where no one has come out with a part yet. Moroso makes oil pans for them now but I'm not sure about anyone making intakes yet. Jost Performance stuck one in a Grand National and cut down a Holley Hi-Rise for it. Mike, we ran a Holley Dominator for simplicity's sake when on the dyno. We didn't have time available to work with the stock pcm in a standalone harness if we had to troubleshoot DTC's and anything else the pcm might freak out about. This is one of the big reasons why we had to run an LS3 intake with the adapters so that we could run port injection in an easy format.

Oh yeah in a s10 5 speed it would be nasty for sure and quite impressive I'm sure even an older one w a cam headers intake and such bolt ons the 200 HP would quickly be 300 and high much higher torque which would make a nice little s 10 get it in fact a 4.3 5 speed w just a cat delete so it can breath is rather impressive for being stock a cam intake and exhaust is all you gotta do to make power but being a six cylinder it hits a wall at some point rather quick so the lighter the car the faster it is .

Are the Piston Rings gapped to prevent a COMPLETE DISASTER with that TURBO… If it’s not gonna be TURBOCHARGED and it’s just for testing…it’s still a serious risk and the extra gap helps prevent the rings from pushing outward and well it’s all down hill from there
