I really like your engine run stand. I've made a couple of them from scratch just for moving purposes but I just got a 454 and have been wanting to fire it up and test it I got it for $300. From a guy that was the owner of a local junk yard where I live for many years he hand picked over a hundred of them to go into his personal agenda stash. And thirty-five of them were remaining when I picked mine up every motor was under 50,000 mi according to the inventory tags so I'm hopeful I got a good one. Lol

So is this the 454 you did not choose? If so, you gonna swap heads? Sounds like the ones on this engine are better. Hopefully you can get one good engine out of 2. Around here you see all the work/chores that needs to be done after the snow melts. Back lawn took a beating this winter from the little voles that burrow their way around under the snow. Lots of patching and re-seeding to do. Stay safe and stay well.

Is not the one I figured on using but yes the heads on the first one are small ovals. But if I have to swap heads, that we will have to do. 👍

Stick some ATF in the oil and gas.... it will smoke but might unstick what you got stuck. That thing needs some care. Let me know if you need help.

I would be thinking a bad valve.

I’ll probably have to open her up. I may try to run it a little more with fuel and water to see if it comes around. 👍

No blue smoke. Probably not rings or valve guides. Pull the head and look at the valves. Or do a cylinder leakage test. You could even do a poor man's test with your compression gauge and a air compressor to just see where it's leaking compression from. Good luck.
