I could not follow the manual's instructions to change the cabin air filter, but your video had enough details. I wish I could buy you a coffee.
@gadflyrock2 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up after watching this video I went and tried it myself. You can easily do the whole job without detaching the piston at all. Plastic cover latch and the filter are both accessible with the piston still attached. Could save a little bit of time and hassle.

I saw the earlier video showing disconnection of the damper at the lower end and thought I was just going to pay the dealer to do it. Then I saw your video and (always a last resort!) actually read the manual. Your instructions gave the details the manual didn't. I couldn't believe how easy it was to disconnect and reconnect the damper once you know how. Since it was my first time, it took five minutes, most of which was emptying all the junk out of the glove box. Many thanks!

LIFE and$$$ Saver I watched this in my car. Expecting a whole long drawn out process. Was excited to see this was only a four minute video. I had to be very gentle to take off the piston. Focusing on pushing the circle bit with my nails. Do not pull the piston as this could break that circle connector! Thank you, thank you.

Excellent , you included all the necessary details - I just changed mine , the secret was knowing to flex the top of the bin and where to disconnect and reconnect the damper. The directions in the owner's manual are woefully inadequate. Your example made it so easy ! Thank you - 2 thumbs up

Just replaced the cabin air filter in my 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV - LT trim, thanks to your video. One tip: When removing the piston from the compartment door, be careful not to remove it too forcefully, since when I was trying to get the piston off of the side hook, I exerted some pressure to get it off but caused the piston cylinder, which is hollow, to separate from its cap, which covered the top of the cylinder. Luckily, the cap is a separate piece from the cylinder, but you can see that the creator of this video does not cause the cylinder of the piston and its cap to be separated.

I hate to admit failing on this one, but when I gently pushed the piston away from the tab as described, the tab (the plastic male end which is part of the car), broke in a small area such that the piston would no longer hold fast in place. I was able to get the bottom attachment off (the part of the piston attached to the glove compartment door). So, I'll attach the middle piston back on the tab with a dab of superglue and then reattach the bottom piston per the manual's instructions. Bummer since other folks seem to be so successful, but thought I'd share so folks can make an informed decision on which path to go.
@andreaaw2925 Жыл бұрын
I'm having the same challenge. The piston does not easily come off. I eventually got it off by pushing the connection with my nails... So you have to focus in on the circle connector. Don't push or pull on the piston.
@jbalazer Жыл бұрын
Yeah, these instructions did not work for me. The damper is held on tight. I had to squeeze the barbed end of the upper post to slide the damper off. It was difficult to do with my hands, and was easier with a tool like a 6 mm socket. It's kinda clear in the video that the barbed end of his post was crushed and mangled, so no wonder it came off easily for him.

I cut the wire after soldering the second connection to take advantage of it sinking heat… otherwise my iron might reflow the other connection. You need a good cartridge-type iron to avoid that but mines still a Hakko T18 clone.
