Thanks for this video, it saved me from bringing the car into the shop. Clear and concise, great step-by-step.

My mechanic pretty much told me to stop dumping money into this car and to just keep filling the fluids since it has over 200,000 miles on it. Not worth putting more money into it he said. But I think my car is still good. If I can just keep fixing it myself then it’s worth it. Sure it’s rusting like most cavaliers I see but it’s a warrior and warriors never quit.

My Sunfire (exact same car but different make) is at 240,000 and running strong as an ox. These cars will go well into 350,000+ if you regularly maintain it.

Thank you!!!! man loved using the torque wrench to do this job got me some wife points I set mine to 85 inch lbs no leaks so far our car had deteriorated so bad the front bolts were hand loose HAND LOOSE when i started removing them with my fingers you got to watch that it can start a fire if you have one leaking as bad as mine was
@supernanotech19 жыл бұрын
+supernanotech1 that front right bolt that rounts that pipe is a pain in the butt to work with you need to wrenches for that one to put it back on with that bolt mounted on top of the other bolt man the oil caked in it and was a footballing nightmare to get right

Do not like the oil dripping on drive way so 2-21-2020 will have mine replaced on my 1996 cavalier with 33,340 miles-nice helpful video-thanks

@LCRAT3R Glad my video helped your project along. As far as the dip stick tube leak is concerned I have never done one on a cavalier, but there must be some sort of gasket or o-ring. Check to see how it is mounted to the engine. I would guess that there is a bolt or two securing it to the block, if there is remove them and the tube and replace gasket. Not much, but hope it helps.

Great Video, only thing missing is what is the torque setting for the valve cover bolts?
@728641212 жыл бұрын
@LCRAT3R Your welcome. No silicone or sealant needed, but I did apply some engine oil to the gasket. The gasket I used was made from some type of rubber. Good luck!!

good video, thanks... sounds like your speed wrench could use a bit of lube :-) thanks for the video upload what torque lbs are you setting them to. I have to do my wife's 2001 cavalier 2.2 valve cover? well done. thumbs up!!!

Hi, nice video, really clear and helpful I just want to know what torque you applied on the bolts of the cover, I know this is really important because you could crush the seal with too much torque and your oil could Leake thru your bolts head with little torque ;I am about to star my project so please give me the answer. Thanks

Well I did the valve cover gasket replacement on my cav and all went pretty good,had no problems thanks to your video,so thanks again for the upload, I was checking for leaks, and I found that I have another oil leak, it seems that the leak is comming from the oil dipstick tube seal,just right there where the tube joins the engine, have you done this dipstick tube seal replacement before? how can I stop this leak? I will appreciate any help thanks

@abkendermen8 жыл бұрын
dyolf10 it sounds like a gasket leaking under pressure

When you put the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube gaskets, do you oil them up, or put them in dry? In my experience, I always oil up O rings, but would like to get your thoughts on it. Also, do you use anything to tac it onto the cover? I heard RTV dabs on the corners help with the gasket not falling out while reinstalling.

I changed the MAP sensor in the the same kind of car, cleaned the oil out of intake box, trottle body, and part of the snorkel, when I replaced everything I am getting a purging sound from the vacuum line on the top of the valve and/or around the 3-4 plugs but there is not a flame jumping and they are torque specs

I'm just wondering how would you clean that engine if it's gets to dirty

I heard this engine does have a pcv valve, well it does but its mounted to the valve cover. Is that possibley the nub in the center of the valve cover, its the only vaccuum line I see to it and I'm getting alot of back pressure coming out the dip stick and oil build up in the intake chamber. Help?
@jacobwhiting9149 жыл бұрын
I have the oil in my intake problem but I don't have back pressure. If you have excessive pressure in the crankcase do a compression test sounds like you might have bad rings in a cylinder.

I have a 2000 Chevy cavalier and oil is coming from the air box hose...What is the hose called....I was calling it pcv valve cover hose....when I start my car when it gets hot that's when you see smoke
@richarddowner42929 жыл бұрын
sounds like you have a lack of oil changing. this will clog up the top end and create a top end pressure buildup and blow by the PCV (positive crankcase valve) key thing is CHANGE THE OIL OFTEN...

Thank you very much

Hey Mike, great video. It almos looks like I myself could do It, you make it look eazy. Anyway what would you charge someone for doing this.. I called a auto repair close to me and they gave me a ball park figure of $1,000,00 is the right?
@Skwarecat10 жыл бұрын
I hope you didn't have that shop do the job. I am about to do this repair on my own Cavalier and so far the costs have run me for $12, and that was for the gasket.
@jackrabbit27659 жыл бұрын
No I didn;t have that do it, The shop said they thought I said head gasket.. I ended up doing it myself thanks to the video, and a repair manual, and a torque wrench...
