Question. I have a 2009 Chevy cobalt and it is leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold and the oil is burning off on the manifold causing it to smoke. Would that be the valve cover gasket?
@FatGuyBuilds3 жыл бұрын
That would be my first guess
@TheFruitingChamber Жыл бұрын
Did you rtv the crank area of the valve cover ? i replaced mine recently with felpro and still leaking out rear pass side of engine and from my research you need to apply red rtv to front and back there. Hoping that fixed it ive had this car since 2012 and this is the 3rd engine ive put in it bc ive had mistakes leaks and shit causing me to blow engines.... this time im not driving it til its 100% leak free but ive been walking for the past 6 months with a sun beaten car sitting collecting dust ughhhh

If there is a 90-degree corner like at a camshaft, then i use permatex "right stuff". It is black with orange writing that says "right stuff"

I’ll probably do this tomorrow for my mom for Christmas, is this why there’s oil all on the spark plugs?

I got a question for you. What kind of sequence did you tighten the bolts? X pattern or just from one side to the other? Cause I just did this, and it still leaks from the left side corner.
@FatGuyBuilds6 жыл бұрын
I just went in a circle. put some rtv in that corner if you are having issues

Thanks, this is a good video. The 2.2 in my Saturn L series does not have any plastic covers hiding the valve cover, so I was impressed with how clean and like-new that engine looks now. Can I ask, what did you use to clean the metal valve cover outer surface?

So I have a question about the valve covers My mom's 08 cobalt needs a valve cover gasket, but her valve cover is different than the one in this video, hers has individual coil packs So I guess my question is are the gaskets the same between the two different covers
@FatGuyBuilds3 жыл бұрын
The way you do the jobis pretty much the same style of steps

Good video! I got the p0301 -(cylinder 1 misfire code) and engine started misfiring. This occurred mainly when idling or at light; not driving. I changed all the plugs and it’s still operating rough..Could it be the valve cover gasket cause the plugs did have oil on them before I changed them? Recently I pulled the new plugs out to inspect again and there was no oil just carbon buildup but I noticed what appeared to be oil in the intake air box that covers the throttle body ..
@FatGuyBuilds3 жыл бұрын
swap coil #1 with coil #4
@FatGuyBuilds3 жыл бұрын
if your misfire moves to #4 it is the coil.
@brolla123 жыл бұрын
@@FatGuyBuilds forgot to mention I have the 2006 2.2 engine and the ignition coil is all one piece (looks like this www.autozone.com/ignition-tune-up-and-routine-maintenance/ignition-coil/valucraft-coil-on-plug-ignition-standard-replacement-ignition-coil-c1492vc/22696_0_0) however I did swap the boots and it still cylinder 1 misfire (p0301)
@FatGuyBuilds3 жыл бұрын
@@brolla12 ok now pull off the coil. Put a spark plug in the boot. Ground out the plug and verify there is a spark. Measure the gap of the plug. do a compression test.

Is there usually alot of gasket left of the head when you take the valve cover off? Or was there a minimum amount you had to clean?
