Is there a PCV valve in the cover? Why didn't you show the cleaning process where the gaskets mount onto the cover and th ed surfaces on the head? You have to put some RTV in certain areas.

Where are spark plugs and their boots on that car located? Are they on that first cover you removed (it is written on it "Eco 2.2 L")? And could you tell where are spark plug wires on that car? And where is the computer located? Seems like our car has same structure of the engine bay (2003 Chevrolet Cavalier). Thank you for the film.
@TheOriginalMechanic4 жыл бұрын
Yes the boots are on that cover. The plugs right beneath. Thete are no plug wires
@olenaerhardt77254 жыл бұрын
@@TheOriginalMechanic Thank you so much, I was looking for them (spark plugs wires) for two days, started to guess on what you said, now mystery is resolved. Would you advise oil change immediately after valve cover gasket change (and spark plugs)?

what are the stud nut bolt things that hold the fuel hard lines called the ones in my friends car are missing

I don't think they have a special name. This might be a question for the parts counter at a dealership. Could be tough to find elsewhere

where is the ground connected in the back? is it to the manifold?
@TheOriginalMechanic7 жыл бұрын
It goes into the firewall side of the manifold where a bracket mounts. It's under the left stud/bolt on the picture after step 12 on this blog post: www.originalmechanic.com/2016/04/how-to-replace-timing-chain-on-gm.html

Would this make oil come out the muffler?
@TheOriginalMechanic4 жыл бұрын
No, it won't. A worn engine will burn oil and it shows up as blue exhaust. That's the only way I've heard of oil in the exhaust.

Mine was broken when I got my little Cavalier however I went to the auto parts store and got a aluminum tube and shoved into it's a tight fit and put the hose over it and it's a hillbilly repair but it does work I can't help but notice that this guy did not flip over the valve cover and clean it he showed inside the motor but he failed the show the top of the valve cover there's a small Reservoir inside of the top of the valve cover all through the tube that he snapped off and it will send it into the carburetor and causing other issues if not removed and cleaned properly

I see your set comes with grommets, did you change them (was there any need to do it)? I ordered a set without grommets, but now think maybe I need to buy the one you show in the film. I changed before a valve cover gasket on 2001 Saturn SL2 and all grommets there were very good, so I didn't use the new from the set, they just didn't differ at all.
@TheOriginalMechanic4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's best to change out the grommets at this time. Wouldn't be a major deal if you didn't though, especially since they look good and didn''t come with your kit.
@olenaerhardt77254 жыл бұрын

Oil can get on your spark plugs if your valve cover gasket is bad
@2y65o7 жыл бұрын
i also broke the air intake hose, is there any way to re seal it without getting a new air box?
@TheOriginalMechanic7 жыл бұрын
I put silicone sealant around the break point with no apparent problems.
@2y65o7 жыл бұрын
yea it seems like it would work the way it mounts, i dont know if you would know this but im burning oil in one cylinder, oil is clearly visible but not filled up in the one spark plug well, would this likely be a valve guide or seal problem or a piston ring problem?
@TheOriginalMechanic7 жыл бұрын
I would lean toward the piston ring, like broken maybe. That's not an area of great experience for me though.
@MrJohnnyDistortion6 жыл бұрын
Did you break the hose or the nipple protruding from the air-box? The hose can be purchased from Rock Auto. If you brikevthe nipple on the air-box just go to an LKQ salvage yardif one is near you. Cut that piece of foam out that sits over the ICM (ignition control module) underneath the engine cover beauty lid because it will overheat it and fail.
@jamesflores94565 жыл бұрын
a previous mechanic who worked on my friends car did this... drill the intake out so it seals on the outside diameter of the hose

If your going to make a video you should make sure you do it properly. You have a tightening pattern that should be followed. Start by doing 26 inch pounds on that pattern and then do the 86 inch pounds using the tightening pattern. It's nice that people try to show others things but way too many backyard rummys videoing themselves doing shit wrong and therefore other people will be doing it wrong!
