My sister's 2015 Cobalt's check engine light came on while I was driving her to an appt. Upon looking it up online, I now think it was because I did not get the gas cap tight as I put gas in for her. That would make her feel better as she just got it paid off. Hope that is the issue. She never used the cigarette lighter to charge her phone. She has a portable charger she uses (I asked her).

Damn I just unplugged my charger from the cigarette lighter slot and my engine light is still on. I have a 2006 SS in great condition and had my engine light come on a couple weeks ago. I was hoping to find a quick fix but I guess I’m taking her to the shop.

Mine is an 09 having the same issue with a random check engine light. Car had been in an accident before, completely repaired besides tire sensor and air bag codes. But my blinkers don't make a clicking or the usual sound ur turn signal makes in the dash when u use it. Oddly enough it came on after one of my turns. Any ideas what it could be?

Thank you for this I think you shot a little light on my problem I literally just had a charger come apart on a cheap dash cam but I have and I didn't have a check engine light until after that and that sockets not working so I don't drive my car a whole lot so I'm going to give it a day or two to refresh and then I'll check the fuses and and if it needs a new fuse plugs and I'll replace it at that time Thank you for your content and I hope you have yourself a good day God bless you and your family God bless you Jeremy Scruggs

This just happened with my 06 cobalt, the light turned off and communicated after unplugging however… still has and e cap leak unfortunately

@@elisefarough6380 EVAP leaks are no fun. What code is it showing? And what symptoms do you have, if any?

@@ValleyMobileAutomotive no symptoms and couldn’t see the code before it disconnected. Mechanic just said it’s an e vap leak :/

This happened to my cobalt, except my check engine light would start flickering and eventually went completely out. It doesn’t usually turn on with the lights check on starting the vehicle but every once in a while I see it flicker. So something is now fried and Ill never know if I have a check engine light unless I periodically check it myself….still love my cobalt tho lol. It’s still better than my fiancés Ford Focus.

hello i have a chevy 2008 cobalt and the engine light is on. some days its randomly off but the next days it’s on. just today my car when starting it sounds extremely loud out of no where .. like a motorcycle or something and it’s loud like that when accelerating at any speed. goes quiet/normal when not on gas. can you give me any direction? i appreciate any help/guidance i’ve been all scared to drive it unsure of my safety

My guess would be a possible exhaust leak. And it's throwing a light for the catalytic converter. If you go to the auto parts store they can scan your car for you and tell you what code the light is on for. If it's for the converter don't replace it. Take it to an exhaust shop to fix the leak and it should take care of the code as well. Just a guess 🤔

My car does the exact same thing when i plug in my usb. Orange engine light turns on. But is it safe to drive when this happens?

I would recommend getting a different USB or not using it at all. I'm not sure what issues it may cause. This is the first time I have ever come across this.

Had the same issue with my dad's 2008 Chevy Colorado. His would illuminate the air bag light & not allow the truck to even crank over. Lol

My daughter has a 2010 Cobalt and always has something plugged in to her cigarette lighter and her CEL has never come on for that reason.

I think this was a faulty charger. The other charger I plugged in didn't cause the light

Do you know what codes are present? A check engine light can be on for many different reasons. A code can help point you in a direction.

@@ValleyMobileAutomotive no not necessarily my dads the one who took it to the shop but they said my cars in perfect condition and when I brought it back home the light when on and I never had this happen before only reason I need to figure it out is so I can renew my emissions

This vehicle has got gremlens. Ohh well my Cobalt does also no communication light on all the time till rpms are about 5 thousand rpms then flashes. An engine acts like it's running out of fuel studders woke in gear but revs if you push couch in only under load light still flashing unless I coast for a bit whithout excelerating light stops flashing an all's fine againe light stays on steady. Who knows possibly weak fuel pump low oil pressure or due for tune up time will tell.

Typically a flashing engine light is due to a misfire. A tune up wouldn't be a bad idea if it's been a while

@@ValleyMobileAutomotive I've done a tune up plugs wires coils airfilter cabinfilter new battery new belts it's still on. Cold days sometimes the power steering an anti lock llights up. on cold moist mornings. No power steering till I wiggle the socket to power motor. Definitely I've got wire issues not Shure what's up it comes an goes. once the heater warms up the car electrical issues disappear. The only thing I haven't done . is purge valve, selinoid in charchole canister, or checked fuel pressure or pump. or the electronic controll module, at this point. It runs awsome . as long as it's not reved above 5 grand. Rpms. It always runs good beside that. . I've put enough money in it for what I'll get for the car. It's like a rev limiter acts kinda like how traction control works. Engine just starts stuttering till the light stops flashing. And then it's fine again.
