Wow. I searched high & low for the cause of my issue, which is basically word-for-word what you described in the video after our Colorado left my son almost stranded one evening (he limped it home a little at a time). I checked the intake bolts and 4 of them were loose. Went ahead and pulled it to install a new gasket set. Runs smooth and quiet as can be now. Thanks for posting this video man.

Yes same here I was starting to think it jumped time cause I threw parts at this thing like my ex threw my cloths and belongings out the door , It started out with a plan but quickly became out of control , you would have thought she had a screw loose the way she blew a gasket ? Well I hope this is the fix I can’t afford to give away too many more houses

Mine has been getting worse for a couple of years. Yesterday I didn't think I was gonna get home. The difference is that during cool weather mine runs fine. When the ambient goes above 65 or so it shows every symptom mentioned here.

It should, I like to replace the gasket just to make sure but I understand that it's a pain to remove the intake so that should work

I have the same truck and I got reduced power, code reader said it was the throttle position sensor, I’m gonna try and remove it and clean it, but mechanic said It would be a 600$ job. Resetting the battery fixes it temporarily but it just happens again. Any suggestions?

Yeah ive been dealing with the intermittent p0171 code, i can hear the vacuum leaking near the back of the intake manifold towards the firewall. From what i understand the starter is under the manifold, so i imagine when it was last replaced the manifold was poorly reinstalled, im going to remove the manifold and check the gasket as you did here and ill get back to you 👍
@SouthernMechanic8 ай бұрын
Yeah that starter job is a pain!!

Thanks so much for overview of this. I'd like to see you do the whole job because I too have a 07 colorado that needs a new gasket but I really want to find an aluminum or metal intake manifold

Your very welcome, idk if anyone makes an after market intake for that or not, the intake is usually fine just for some reason the bolts back out

what kind of codes were you getting before you found the problem? I'm getting a p0017 and a p0300 with mine. sounds like it could be whats wrong with mine.
@SouthernMechanic4 жыл бұрын
It had 9 codes, I can't remember them all but it had oxygen sensor codes, codes for the fuel system being too lean mainly

@@shawnlang4095 check for intake manifold leake with brake clean by spraying it around where the manifold bolts to the head, use the straw that comes with the can so you can make sure it gets down there because it's kind of hard place to reach

@@SouthernMechanic thanks for this vid. prolly a silly question but can you pls elaborate on the brake clean, am i looking for bubbles or for something else? im picturing flames and s**t ha! thanks
@SouthernMechanic2 жыл бұрын
@@erickennedy2897 your welcome, when you have a vacuum leak and the system is sucking in extra air then it is making the system lean and if there is a vacuum leak and you spray a flammable substance and the engine sucks up the brake clean in this case then the engine will burn it just like it does the gasoline and in turn it will cause the engine to Rev up just like your opening the throttle but if there is no vacuum leak and you spray the flammable substance around the area then nothing will happen and the engine will remain at the same rpm

Do you need sealant on these types of gaskets?
@SouthernMechanic Жыл бұрын
No sealant but a little grease is what I use once they are installed on the intake that way there's no risk of rolling a seal

Exact same issue with 2014 malibu and a few more years, intake bolts back out and intake about falls off lol. My 2014 started running ruff all kinds of codes and a quick video showed this exact same issue.

Yup, now everytime I have one with this style intake and it has rough running issues I always grab the intake and sew how much movement there is by hand lol

Need your advice. I have a 2009 Colorado w/ 2.9l engine. The issue I’m having is once it gets to the normal heat temperature the rpm drops and shuts down. I turn it back on and last about 10 seconds and shuts down. I already replace the crank sensor, cam sensors, throttle body, o2 sensors. And still does the same thing. Any recommendations you may have on this issue?
@SouthernMechanic Жыл бұрын
Check your fuel pressure, should stay around 50-60psi
@rubena6768 Жыл бұрын
I checked the fuel pressure and it is good. I have changed the throttle body , cam and crank sensor and it still looses power. Rpm drops and shuts down. When it was tested with computer the rpm’s were rise to 1000 it stays on. When rpm’s go back to a little below 500 it shuts down. No one that I have called can seem to figure what the problem is. Can you help me with some advice? Thank you in advance.
@SouthernMechanic Жыл бұрын
@rubena6768 I can't remember which wire but there's a wire going to the throttle body that's bad about breaking internally and to test it you look for the wire that has power for a few seconds when the key is first turned on then power goes away, if you don't get any power from it at all then the wire has a break in it and it will also cause those problems, I will try to fins which wire it is and get back with you

Have you actually put a manual guage on that cylinder and checked the compression?
