That first clip gave me anxiety but I cracked up 😂😂 nice install! Are you thinking of installing one on your new Tacoma too?
@JasonExplainsThings2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure honestly. Maybe for the Tacoma… probably not for the 4Runner. But dust is definitely an issue. I made a habit of cleaning the air filter each time after a trip. :-)

I'm interested in this snorkel from upTake. I like how the connection to the air box is inside the fender (like this AEV one) unlike other Tacoma snorkels. www.uptopoverland.com/products/uptake-tacoma-2016-2021

So much fun! I went through the exact same emotion as I watched. I envy the ZR2 has AEV which makes highly finished products

Love this channel! Got my 22' Bison babymax off of carvana a few months ago and it already had this snorkel equipped. I have since watched the lighting video and installed the same ambers thanks to the instruction of that video. Looking forward to where this channel goes as the production quality and flow are very good considering how "little" followers it has. This channel has to blow up!

We’re working hard at it. Lots of subscribers are unfortunately from a couple old videos that blew up who don’t really watch anymore. But thanks very much and we’re plugging away at it. We’re in the middle of installing an ARB air compressor into the Bison. That video hopefully will come out by the end of August.

Love this! Great job guys 🤙 I can fully relate to this video and the emotions you were having drilling the holes. That first no going back cut really gets the adrenaline going. The intro was brilliant 🤣

It was a great icebreaker for the 4Runner front bumper install. Cutting through a plastic bumper cover is WAY easier than this was.

I love your videos! It’s just like my buddy and I when we’re tinkering with our motorcycles; lots of jokes, learning, and fun. Did you guys add any touch up paint to the bare metal edges after cutting, to prevent rust? Excellent job as always!!
@JasonExplainsThings2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah we touched up all bare metal. Showed in the video.

I probably should have also let you borrow the Milwaukee Jigsaw I used, paired with a good metal cutting blade. Just like an aired saw but bigger. Great instructions the Bison seemed a little more involved with the fender Liner.

YES! We discovered that. Some of the additional armor hides a lot of the fasteners.

Question: I have the AEV snorkel as well. Have you had to replace a windshield yet? Is it gonna be in the way?

No, Chris hasn't. Good question! I'm honestly not sure.

Miniscule, honestly. Don't do this for added economy. Just a tiny fringe benefit.

I don't know if I have this in me (plus lacking tools). I called several 4x4 shops in the area and they were also not super interested! I know dealers should be able to do it but I worry a lot about cutting corners.
@JasonExplainsThings2 жыл бұрын
I wish you were closer Wade so we could help. It is a bit of a stressful job. But fundamentally I think you could easily handle it. We took our time and made a day of it. After doing all the cutting we took a break.
@JasonExplainsThings2 жыл бұрын
That's why I showed some of the drilling and cutting without music so folks could get a feel of what it's like. One nice thing about it is the cut is covered up the snorkel so it doesn't need to be beautiful, as long as it's the right shape and location.
@wadeduvall70262 жыл бұрын
@@JasonExplainsThings I appreciate it! Would also love to have more 4x4 friends nearby... I think it's about 900 bucks to install, and the AEV kit is 500. So I think that would cover all the tools I'm missing if I go for a manual pop rivet gun. Do you rec the oscillating tool vs an angle grinder for body cuts?

Does anyone know if this thing will fit the 2016-2021 GMC Canyon? I talked to AEV and they said the reason it says it will not fit the canyon on the website is because it hasn't been officially tested, but it's possible that it can be retrofitted to fit.
@JasonExplainsThings Жыл бұрын
Depends on if the shape of the fender is the same. You might want to look at a Colorado and your Canyon side by side and see if it’s the same. You would want it to be identical so the fit and cutting templates all match.
@aevnate4140Ай бұрын
AEV says no. The body lines are different between the Colorado and the Canyon. I have had customers that did it anyway and there is a small gap between the snorkel and the body that can be seen. Proceed at your own risk if you try it on your Canyon.
@kstua3276 Жыл бұрын
How long did it take in real time?

I think it took 5-6 hours... while shooting a video which slows everything way down.

Yeah, you'll definitely get water into your engine with this if you're thinking of doing water wading. Not water tight and no one way water valve to drain rain water.

@@Beelzebububble If you want to use this as a true deep water forging snorkel, I will highly recommend to RTV all of the joints to make it watertight, but that is only one of many things you need to do to prepare your vehicle for deep water crossings. It does help to get cooler and cleaner air when driving in dusty environments like Eastern Washington or most any place in the Western states. Snorkel and raised air intake mean the same thing and are used interchangeably.
