Awesome information I did it just how you did it with the zip ties, and worked on my 2018 Chevy Cruze. Thank you.... The CLIK,, CLIK,, CLIK was driving me crazy 😊

If it works it's not stupid. Dealer prices are outrageous but they keep us DIY guys busy helping neighbors. Nice fix and a happy lady!

Wow, I have never heard clicks on opening a car door. I am sure your neighbors love you Steve. I was thinking you where going to grease it. I think Chevy should fix this problem. That noise would drive me crazy to Vicky!

I can see why it was driving Vicky nuts. A huge difference in what it cost you to fix it Steve and what the dealership wanted to charge. Another awesome hack from the brilliant mind of Steve Rob! Thanks Buddy!

Thank you so much for posting this excellent video. It saved me over $250 that the dealership was asking. I used your first example. That’s why so many go to KZbin for solutions. This is a perfect example of helping the consumer.

Thanks Michael much appreciated. You may have to reapply the zip ties over time if they stretch but it's only cents not hundreds of dollars to resolve. Cheers 👍

@@SteveRobReviews Yes, that’s not a problem. What a poorly designed part. And it’s been this way on new vehicles for years, with no improvement. BTW I used your method on my 2017 Chevrolet Impala. They are similar door straps. The guy at the dealership said they have to take the whole door apart. What a joke. If they could only watch your video. Next time I go in there, I will tell them about your solution. Thanks soooo much!

This also applies to the 2016 Cruze Limited, but not any of the other 2016 Cruzes. Thanks for the clever fix!

Oops I need to clarify, the 2015 fix works on the 2016 Cruze Limited, then the 2017 fix applies to all the other 2016 Cruze models.

Where were when I had to work on my granddaughters 2011 Chevy Cruze? That thing gave me fits. Then I had to put in a new A/C compressor and condenser on my other granddaughter's 2005 Chevy Equinox.

Okay it’s good to see an option to fix these instead of replacing the entire plastic piece by removing the door panels, loosening the other end ( that’s inside the door ) and having another plastic piece put in that will just crack and start doing this again. My vehicle is a 2017 Toyota Highlander and yes most cars have this same issue. My 79 Camaro with 250 lb doors had other issues in the 17 years I owned it but never this because GM used steel back then. I just have to figure out which type I have on m6 Highlander. I’m still not 100 clear on what you did with the nail. You said you have to remove the bolt from the door jam end? Then the modified nail gets put in and goes where? Around the end of that plastic piece??? and bend it back in a similar way to the Zip tie fix on the other type? I’ll have to figure it out when I try this. So far ( and for the past 3 years, the clicking sound only happens occasionally and 5hen disappears for a few months or so. It’s also only 5he drivers side door that clicks and I can see where it is either cracked ora piece broke off. Good video though. I watched the one on the idle issue with a Cruze and cleaning the MAF sensor as well as the Throttle body. I used MAF sensor cleaner on my Highlander on the MAF because it cleans without leaving any residue. I also sprayed it on both sides of the wire/wires in 3-5 second bursts about 6-8 times as mine was just slightly dirty. I did the throttle body with a dedicated throttle body cleaner and because the TB is bigger that on a Cruze I could get in the with my finger and a microfibre cloth sprayed with the cleaner. It didn’t look that dirty but the cloth came out pitch black. Note that the idle may run a little high for the next day or two as the ECM ( cars computer ) adjusts the idle now that it is getting enough air with the throttle plate closed. The Highlander ran noticeably smoother and acceleration was noticeably crisper. Fuel mileage actually increased a tiny amount. The vehicle wasn’t that bad to begin with so maybe that’s why on mine the idle didn’t go up more than 100-150 rpm’s but dirty ones that are cleaned will go up from 750 rpm to 1200 rpm or so for a could days. This “ cleans “ should be done as part of regular maintenance every 25,000-35,000 miles ( 40,000 to 55,000 kilometres ) as well as vehicles with easily accessible PCV valves should have those changed out every 40-50,000 miles as well.

@Zeek800 The door catch designs are many so just try a couple of zip ties to tighten up the catch.
