I just finished this job tonight and will add my 2 cents to anyone who watches this video. Getting the intake manifold out isn’t too bad. Getting to everything you need to get to is fairly easy and this video shows it well. The trickiest part is getting the 3 clips off in the back of the manifold that secure the hoses. I did not do the after market repair and instead replaced old the manifold with a new one. The new one I bought did not have the 2nd white clip, the one that is mentioned as being farther down the hose. I can see why, because getting it off would have been tough. Since the new one didn’t have a slot for that clip, I just cut the tie that goes around the hose. Some things take patience and plenty of wiggling to get off, so take your time. As far as putting it back in, I agree with the poster that putting that tiny vacuum hose on as the first thing you do is wise. Next, I put in the little plug with the metal clip that is mentioned at 50 seconds. This makes getting that metal clip on easier, because you still have room to work. Then I put on the 2 plastic clips that secure the hoses to the back of the manifold. Next, I reattached the 4 plugs and 4 clips near the fuel injectors then I slid the fuel injectors back into the manifold and secured the manifold to the engine with the 6 screws. Reattaching the 4 plugs and 4 clips before you reattach the whole unit to the engine is much easier because you will still have room to work when you put the clips back in. Luckily, the new manifold I bought came with the 6 E10 screws already built into the unit, so you don’t need to worry about trying to find a way to sneak the old ones back in. Once the thing is secured to the back of the engine, the rest of it is a matter of reattaching everything and not missing any plugs, hoses, or clips. Getting the big hose that goes into the manifold was a difficult, but it will come off with some good force. You will need a few pieces off the old manifold that will need to be put onto the new one like a couple of small brackets and fasteners, one of which will need to be unscrewed from the old manifold. For example, if you pause the video at 30 seconds, you’ll see that blue piece in the middle of the screen with a small screw to the right of it. This will need to be unscrewed and removed from the old one and put onto the new one. Lastly, the new manifold I bought came with a new grounding wire, and the wire is already secured on the bolt which is built into the unit and can’t come off, so you can’t lose the wire.

old comment for sure....but for those that did this, and commenting op, about how long did this take you? additionally, what is your experience like as far as timeline for working on cars go? I ask, because I know I'm a rookie in retrospect, and I've got a PCV Hose, Valve Cover, and Intake Manifold on my '13 Cruze eco in dire need of replacement. The only thing that makes me nervous by any means, is this manifold. TIA!

Also... as I started on this I realized these metal wire clips are easy old school clips. Just slightly push in the injector metal clips towards the passenger compartment and pull up injector connector. The fancy clip you added in a comment about is a squeeze clip. It does not need removed.

Be careful when trying to get the fuel rail out of it. Should just have to take the 4 electrical connectors and 2 screws for it to slide out. I undid one of the clips holding the little injector thing on the rail and fuel started leaking everywhere. I didnt really know what I was doing but managed to replace this and the cam cover as well in about 3 hours. The clips on the underside were the worst part but not so bad if you save them for last and do them first when reinstalling. Thanks for the video. It helped a lot.

I just replaced my intake manifold on my Chevy Cruze thanks to you. The clips are by far the hardest part. Overall it took me about 3 hours to do. You are awesome for putting this together. Next up I'm replacing my cam shaft cover.
@ART224

Was this 3 hours total to remove the old one and put in the new one? Or 3 hours to take out the old one?
@andrewbeck1516
@andrewbeck1516 5 жыл бұрын
@@ART224 3 hours total. It would have been faster, but I struggled with the back hose clips. I kept thinking my e10 bolts were all the way out when they were not. As a result I couldn't maneuver the manifold in a way to get better access to the clips in the back. It's really important everything else is off and the bolts are completely out so you can pull the left side of the manifold up and get better access to the hose clips. If you know exactly what you are doing you can probably do the entire replacement in under two hours.

Same concept on the chevy sonic just a little harder to take out due to less space. At first i was a little skeptical damaging the fuel rail but that was the easiest part. Those clips took me the longest just because i did not want to break them.

Ha ha Just fiddle with the clips until you get it loose. I hate that part. I don’t know who designed these clips but they must be one sadistic bastard. Great video. I’ll let you know if I get it back together. LOL

If you are replacing with a new one, there is a little piece that one of the electrical connectors go to on the left top side that your going to need off the old one. Its the only thing that has a blue tag on there so it should be easy to spot. Its held on with a T20 screw.

The Dorman manifold has a retaining pin added to the PCV to keep it from becoming dislodged. The OEM stock manifold does not have a retaining pin and the PCV becomes dislodged over time and disappears completely. This issue causes excessive oil consumption, a rough idle, and will ruin the vaccum regulator valve in the valve cover which will require the valve cover to be replaced.

Doesn't prevent it from getting gummed up, gunked up, cracked, clogged, or leaking. What's worse is you can't even clean it because it's recessed further back than the OEM manifold. Still a poor design.

Thanks for the video. Yesterday i switched over to a ZZP ported manifold and it has more power and pulls harder and 1 extra MPG fuel economy on the highway lol. I had a hard time getting the wiring harness off of the old manifold because its hard to get to the clips with needle nose pliers because there isn't much room to work with. Upon reassembly the clamp at the throttle body was the most difficult only because I have a ZZP intercooler and the clamp is almost too small. Also i was surprised to see oil in my throttle body after i cleaned it a long time ago and have an oil catch can, so either my catch can isnt working or my turbo is leaking oil.

Those with ported manifolds have actually reported the highest fuel economy numbers, which makes sense because of the extra airflow.

the airflow is the same, that lip is put there to increase some manifold air pressure at lower rpms that's it. You want more airflow? bigger turbo.

How long did removing the intake manifold take you?
@Mr95Kenny
@Mr95Kenny 5 жыл бұрын
Aaron Thornton probably a hour, depending what your doing and how good you are around cars, give yourself three hours to take off and put back on to be safe.

Aaron Thornton - it took me a little over and hour to get it off. One hour to figure out the clips and about 15 minutes to take off the manifold. This video covers it all step by step.

That grey intake port on the underside of the intake broke when I was replacing the PCV valve line; do you know if that is part of the intake manifold? It looks like it's separate, but I can't find much online about it.

I assume its one unit. Hmm, you could try to epoxy it back on. If just the thing to the hose broke you could try and plug it and tap into the black yellow hose that comes out of it with a T. Or you might just need to buy a whole new intake, sorry that sucks, its always something!

@@Mr95Kenny Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, the T-split might work and just epoxy the whole, so there's no leak. Thanks again. Much appreciated. :)

Hey man quick question. I accidentally bought a dual map sensor intake however I only have one map. Can I seal off the unused port and still use it? Thanks in advance

Anyone know if the 2012 1.4 intake manifold will fit on the 2011 1.4?
@Mr95Kenny
@Mr95Kenny Жыл бұрын
No, the 2011 has a extra sensor next to the MAP sensor (or two MAP sensors for some reason) on top passenger side when installed on car. I wanted to get the Dorman intake for my friends 2011 but no go. I looked at drilling and tapping but don’t think it would be worth it. Here is Amazon link for the 2011.
