I stumbled upon this video and Thank you SIR! My daughter's Cruz had the same symptoms and same fault codes. Sure enough, I that diaphragm had a hole in it. After replacing the valve cover, thanks to your well given instruction, her car run the best

Man, you hit the ball out of the park. I've had this same issue on 2016 cruze TWICE. argh!!! There is a kit that just puts a REAL pcv value outboard to the valve cover instead of supporting chevy's asinine design.

Thank you very much!! Only thing I don’t understand is the strength required to put it back on 6lbs? What why can’t I just screw it on? I’m not a car guy lol
@GarageKing2 жыл бұрын
Hey There, you can just screw it down, but the torque it 6ft/lbs so what that means is you don't have to tighten it very much, just nice and snug, once you "feel" the bolt get tight, another nudge and you are good.

Hi could you pls give me the types of wrenches and sockets u used for those screws Thanks

Right at the 9min mark !!! I thought I didn't let everyone know, because I usually do it at the end, but this time at the 9min mark, because then I went and broke up the valve cover after that LOL. Here are amazon links if you don't want to go back to the video. Here is a Hazet (made in Germany) for 70% off, excellent quality amzn.to/4cNqiOy and you need a T30 amzn.to/3Z6CJ4w and you need a ratchet and it helps to have a swivel. Any other questions just let me know.

@@GarageKing hi thanks what could trigger the po106 code if it isn’t the valve cover
@GarageKing3 ай бұрын
@@FrankOziri-s7s I would check the valve cover first to see if its leaking, you can easily do with your finger like I did in the video. Then I would check for any vacuum leaks. You could try spraying brake clean around and see if the idle fluctuates. If it does you have a vacuum leak.

I have a 2012 chevy sonic ltz 1.4l turbo and my code reader is reading P0106,P1101,P0171,P0156, and P0507. We changed valve cover/pcv valve, MAP sensor, MAF sensor, and the vapor canister because it broke when changing MAP sensor. Codes won't go away but car is running better then before we changed them. Can u give some advice
@GarageKingАй бұрын
It sounds like you've done a lot of troubleshooting already, maybe check for vacuum leaks. You can do that by spraying some brake cleaner around connections and see if the idle changes. Don't go hosing it down, just a little squirt here and there, where there are vacuum hoses and connections. Go around the throttle body.

What type of silicone is that? I’m going to be doing this to my Chevy sonic and I’m trying to be as prepared as possible

Hey there, I use this amzn.to/4dXj8rW for anything above the cylinder head. Its high temp and these engines run hot. If you are doing an oil pan I use the black stuff that has more oil resistance. Not a hard job so take your time and you will do great !!!

Can you please lmk where you bought the pcv membrane?
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hey there and thanks for the comment, you have to buy the complete cover as the membrane is incorporated into the cover. I just broke it apart for the video so everyone could see. The cover is actually pretty cheap. amzn.to/2UpRYGF in the US and if you are in Canada its amzn.to/3Hj4r4R thanks !!!

How long can you drive the car after problem presents

Before it was fixed if presented right away. So once you started it, there were problems and the check engine light was on. After I did the repair it was 100% and you could tell right awy that everything was good.

I changed this out and still have the p0106 and p0171 code…

Thats very strange, normally the rocker cover cures those codes. Try putting your finger over the breather hole like I did in the video and make sure there are no vacuum leaks. You may have to take it in......

If I took this to a mechanic how much do you think they would they charge me. (I know this isn't a quote!)
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
I can't see them charging more than an hour labor to do the job, its actually not that hard. You could even clear the computer yourself with a code reader. Just make sure its the valve cover, make sure you have those codes, and if you want to be 100% sure after the job....... Well break apart the valve cover like I did and look for the hole in the diaphragm.

Hope you replaced the intake manifold as well as that's the reason why the valve cover went bad
@GarageKing3 жыл бұрын
I actually didn't, and did not know it was the intake that caused that. It was my friends vehicle and he supplied the part. Actually did the job about a 1.5 years ago and its still good. I finally got to editing and uploading the video just a few weeks ago. I really appreciate your comment as I did not know that about the intake manifold, and if he comes back with the same problem I know what we are doing then!!! Thanks for the comment, I do appreciate it :)
@eddie35003 жыл бұрын
@@GarageKing yeah the valve cover can last months can last year's when its replaced but the reason why it goes is cause of a little purge valve goes missing in the intake manifold and the only way to fix it is to replace the entire intake manifold

I have the same codes but my pcv valve isn't making the whistling noise! 🤔🤔🤔
@GarageKing2 жыл бұрын
It could be possible that you are just not hearing it yet? I'm not sure how sensitive the computer is, and where the parameters to throw a light are set. It could just be that your leak is very small and you can't hear it, but its enough to set the code.
