I bought a 2013 Cruze for a $1000, so far, in order, I've done the rear shocks, the valve cover(pcv failure #1), the turbo and exhaust manifold, oil return line, oil feed line, coolant feed line, thermostat, coolant outlet housing(cracked during turbo replacement :(), valve cover(pcv failure #2), coil pack, and pcv fix v3.4. About $1100 in parts, no labor cost to me except the skin off my knuckles thanks to awesome gents like yourself. Thank you very much.

If your intake system has a significant vacuum leak that's allowing air to enter at a point DOWNSTREAM from the MAF sensor and UPSTREAM from the Throttle body, this will allow air to enter the intake system that the Computer is unable to measure (because it's after the MAF sensor). The computer will measure excessive Oxygen in the 1st O2 sensor, and respond by increasing the Long Term Fuel Trim in order to correct the Air : Fuel mixture or Stoichiometry error (Lean Condition). Check to see if your Long Term Fuel Trim has been increased to +10% to +20%. The computer will do this in response to the unmeasured air getting into the system through that vacuum leak. The computer will also issue the "Operating Too Lean" P0171 code. If you think about it, this is the exact condition that the P0171 code was designed for but hardly anyone mentions it. Bear in mind that in a Turbocharger system, this includes the whole intake side of the Turbocharger so it's not going to be simple to find.

Hello, I've got P0171 and P1101 faults on my 1.4 turbo. I checked the non-return valve in the intake manifold, the oil separator membrane and the non-return valve in the turbo hose which was bad. I changed it with an used one, but it passes little air from the turbo side ( you can barely blow the air from that side in to the hose). My question is: should I bother to buy a new hose for 50eur? Could the system even feel such a small amount of air coming from the hose and turn on the check engine light?

In the 'old days, with a lean condition, you would have to adjust the carburetor. Does the "lean condition" you dealt with the same as the lean condition we used to deal with? Could be your PCV valve there’s a circle in the top right of your valve cover it you cover the little hole with ur finger and if your engine tweaks it’s your valve cover because your pcv is built in with it
@Zeek8009 ай бұрын
That thing on the valve cover is not a PCV valve it is a part of the system. The main culprit is in the intake manifold. The PCV is actually a small orange rubber? Diaphragm that either disappears or is “ there “ but partially leaks. Chevy should have fixed that issue but just kept selling intakes and valve covers that just ended buggered up again. Thats not good at all. Time to start checking ✔
@fluxcapacitor052 жыл бұрын
Ever figure it out? My very first guess would be to check the PCV hose. That will not only absolutely guarantee a P0171 code as well as fuel trim problems, but also can interfere with oil flow to and from the turbo. May want to also check the PCV valve itself like shown in the video. If turbo pressure is delivered into the crankcase from the turbo (in lieu of bad hose/valves on the hose) then it will damage the diaphragm of the PCV valve itself. A lot of people complain about bad PCV valves on the cruze, so much so that it was even recalled. But the truth is much of the time the PCV valve wasn't the culprit, but rather terrible hose designs used by GM on many vehicles. Coincidentally, all of these vehicles have this known issue.

Ive done both of these things that your video shows and the issue hasnt gone away. My friend amhzs the same problem with his 2016 chevy cruze 1.4T limited LT. Ive tested the PCV valve, the purge valve both are good. Hes had the valve cover replaced, the MAF sensor replaced, both O2 sensors replaced, MAP sensor replaced, the plastic hose that runs on top to the turbo replaced, intake manifold replaced... i found this PCV fix kit online which is my last hope and also plan on replacing his timing chain being that the car is over 125k miles and its never been done before. He has a primary code P0171 as well as a few other secondary codes. If this PCV fix kit does not resolve his problem, do you have anymore suggestions?
@SteveRobReviews Жыл бұрын
Shaun there are mechanical failures to bad fuel injector to faulty fuel pressure. I'd look on the fuel delivery side .
@TheContribe Жыл бұрын
@SteveRobReviews I checked the fuel pressure and the pressure is reading the correct psi, I plan on replacing the timing chain on the car since it is at 130k miles without being replaced and is louder on the intake side of the engine.

Did you find the issue? My car has the same issue and my mechanic said it was the 02 sensor but I replaced that already.
@TheContribe Жыл бұрын
I have not found the issue yet. I have tried just about everything and anything. As of rn the check engine light is off to my knowledge. I used a difference kind of engine oil. I think the viscosity is incorrect for what they recommend.
@Zeek8009 ай бұрын
The PCV system is to blame. That kit, if installed properly should fix the issue if everything else you stated was already replaced. The job takes at least 15 hours but 5hats because the JaB Weld part of the kit needs to properly cure ( 24 hours is even better ) the kit install should take a first timer 2 to 3 hours only because of salvaging the parts from the old system and some of the connectors are hard to pull off.

What could be the cause of a P0171 on a 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude 2.0 we just replaced the MAP sensor but the vehicle still has a rough idle and the rpms run high while driving on the freeway approximately 65-70 mph the rpms are jumping up to 2200-2700 rpms. What could cause that? My husband already checked for vacuum leaks and says he can't find any obvious leaks. We just replaced the map sensor thinking that would fix it but it didn't so I'm thinking it could possibly be a bad Throttle Body w/Actuator IAC Idle Air Control or a TPS Position Sensor or even possibly a upstream 02 sensor. If anyone else can give me some advice on what I should fix next I would greatly appreciate it thank you!

Don’t spray the Throttle Body cleaner into the throttle body, use the method in this video or spray a micro fibre cloth and us3 your finger GENTLY. Locate where ant sensors or electric throttle plate actuator are are and don’t get any more than a lightly sprayed with cleaner cloth in that area. Do both the MAF and the TB, MAF sensor first, let it dry for 15-30 minutes before reinstalling and while you wait, clean the Throttle Body.

Just wanted to verify...depressing the gas pedal without having the engine running doesn't make the fuel pump run, does it? Just don't want to do more harm than good to my vehicle if I do this (2014 Cruze LT 1.4T).

Hi Paul Engine off - ignition off does not turn fuel pump on but engine off and just turning the ignition key in the start position does turn on the fuel pump on to prime the system. Depressing the gas pedal will not turn on the fuel pump .

When you push down the gas pedal your really just giving the car more air. The sensors itself work together with the ecu to tell the fuel pump it needs more fuel.

Giving it more air as in controlling the throttle body plate

Steve I could use your help my 1.4 running rich up a hill going threw gass like crazy replaced throttle body already

No codes or no generic codes ? If its actually too rich it will throw a code . Does the check engine light work ? Lots of reasons for a engine running rich but I have never seen one that did not turn the check engine light on.

@@SteveRobReviews I have noticed a oil leak under my cat converter not sure if my tubro is leaking. There was oil in the throttle body when I replaced it with the new one better I couldn't get out of my driveway when I pressed the gas pedal. No.check in light on my dash at all my small scan tool doesn't show anything at all . I put converter cleaner in the gas tank I could smell egg smell before and carbon smell up a hill

Oil in the cat is not good. Your definitely looking in the right direction with the turbo.

@@SteveRobReviews lol I grew up in the early 70s best cars and times of my life I miss those days leave your left over beer in the trunk to use for emergency coolant your girlfriend's pantyhose for emergency belts pop top from soda can to set points at 16 thousands bailing wire for exhaust hangers coke cans to patch tailpipe holes and pieces of 2x4s to put in springs to hold fenders up off of wide racing tires oh for the good old simple days when cars were made powerful and tuned by the driver not a computer chip. @altonkenne579 I spent 30 years at GM building cars and trucks starting in the 70's where power steering, ac and power brakes were an option. Now we're driving computers but overall when I retired in 2007 I seen the transformation over time and my 2021 silverado has been flawless , built in Indiana.
