There should have been a cardboard cylinder tube in the box with the thermostat, the tube goes over that metal plate on top of the thermostat, push down on those wings and twists and the thermostat comes right out. Do the same thing when putting the new thermostat on push down with the cylinder tube twist the wings and they will go right underneath those two side brackets on the housing.

Just wanted to add to this comment. Try to remember to position the bleeder hole at the 12 o'clock position, so air bubbles can pass through it. The ratchet wrench number 10 is needed.

I have a 2012 impala and I’ve replaced the water pump and radiator today and it still overheating so the thermostat gotta be last thing I have to replace.

How did you know it was the thermostat that was bad? What did the dashboard computer read.

It's OBD2.... on board diagnostics . Usually you will get a "coolant temp outside of regulation ability" or a code like that . . Or the temp Guage will not quite get up to full temp (or, the car can overheat)

I changed it on my 2013 v6 3.6 and the engine hot ac off is still on how can I get it completely fixed ?

Replace the temperature sensor and disconnect the battery and reconnect it and that should reset the computer and solve the problem

It's just a rubber o-ring . It's not paper like a 70s small block . So no need to clean As their is nothing to clean up

It's on the right hand side. It looks different than a regular cap and reservoir, reservoir is square. I forget what it said but I think its a psi and temp on the cap.
