These little pickup trucks are great until you want to adjust door gaps. Then forget it! Well, we try anyway. Come along as we repair a hinge that someone else repaired.

I have the same problem with my 2002 Chevrolet S10 4x4 pickup. No one welded anything, but the bushings are shot. I have new pins and bushings. I saw a post where a guy uses a bolt and oversized nuts to make a press to press the new bushings in instead of hitting them with a hammer. Great video.

The hinges develop a groove where the metal bushing breaks open. This causes the door to sag, so a common fix was to weld in a washer over where the grommet sits and replace with a stronger pin.

Great repair and video - including the Bible verses! The holes in that air gun - I'm afraid that's you government at "work". The side holes give the air a place to go if the tip is pressed against something like a person. It prevents the tip from having full line pressure available. I'm not taking up for OSHA, but they are trying to foolproof the tool. Those bronze bushings - I think they break easily because they are made by a process called "sintering" - which means they're composed of little particles pressed together and cooked until they are bonded together where they touch. Kind of made porous, and able to hold lube. But the size of the particles, amount of them, pressure, and temperature are all variables that have to be controlled to make a strong bushing of consistent density. I have an '84 square body that needs door springs, and I bought repair kits that use a spring that attaches to one of the hinge bolts instead of being fed thru both hinge halves. Seemed like such a good idea until I realized the door still had to be removed to use them!!!!!!!!!

The holes on the blow gun is something Osha demands as a safty feature in case you get the nozzle directly up against your skin. Shops can't use the guns without them.

Well I appreciate you, it really helped that you said their are after market hinges that could be used. Oh, and the tips about the bushings will save a headache too. Thank you. I don't do welding or metal work but I can measure and drill holes. So getting the assembly might work better for me. Really good tutorial though thank's again.

For future reference they do indeed make a tool which is nothing more than a lever for adjusting non-adjustable door hinges such as those on the Astro vans and s10s and it literally takes seconds however it was a bit amusing watching you dangle your self from the door...lol I've got a homemade tool and I've got a set of hinge pins to replace on my own Blazer so I will try to remember to make a video just to help those in the same boat

12:35 those are safety holes so if the tip gets blocked. So say you accidentally touch the tip of the blow gun to your hand it doesn’t send the full 100+ psi through your skin

The pressure relief holes in air nozzles exist because they are too small to mount a warning sticker on to. Holding a high pressure nozzle against the skin (or eye) and blowing can cause injury, even blow and entrap air under the skin. Some guy horsyng around in the job probably did so to coworker and the coworker sued everyone. Also, if the nozzle is plugged, it won't eject the obstacle at high speed into the guys face or eye who is trying to figure out why no air is coming out. I wondered the same thing 40 years ago. I cherish the 2 old ones I have without the holes.

About the air gun that is for moisture to escape and it could also suck a little dry air in through that as well it doesn't really affect your air pressure

I just did one of those and had to put on aftermarket garbage. Customer supplied all the parts. He bought the junk bolt on replacements. If you see this never ever try those bolt on. The bolt holes are no where near where the factory welds are so you would have to redrill the holes after you get the old ones off. I just planed on welding from the start. But the problem was junk metal from China. It welded like shit. Got the job done but it was a mess. Buy factory weld on and not the junk ones.

@@TheJayhawker no sir it's a 97 xcab. If I lift the door at the handle end a little it will latch but it doesn't close all the way. Passenger side has 2 clicks where this one clicks once, if I explained it so u could understand. I'm sure it needs pins but this issue is at the other end. It only partially closes sir. So when it rains or u drive it, sounds like a wind storm and u get wet

@@wildestcowboy2668 Ok gotcha. On the video @ 20:40 I start playing around with the adjustment of the striker. Compare that to yours, look to see if the material of the striker is completely worn down. Kneel down and look to see how the striker lines up with the notch of the latch when you close the door. Also throw some white lithium grease on the latch or anything you have handy on the ranch; WD-40, bag balm, ya know whatever.

I have a suspicion that hole is in your air gun because of lawyers. It provides an escape for the air if the end of the nozzle gets blocked. Someone was probably doing something ill-advised with an air gun and concentrated high pressure broke the skin or opened up an existing wound. Lawyers got involved, the air gun manufacturer got sued rather than the judge making the guy with the air hole in him responsible for his own actions. And the result is a poorly functioning, but idiot proof, air gun design. Just a cynical guess.
