Chevy Silverado 5.3L Trail Boss Muffler Delete - let that V8 be heard!

The stock exhaust on the Trailboss leaves a lot to be desired. This video covers the installation of the AFE muffler delete pipe and the new sound you can achieve in about 30 minutes of work with some basic tools. Now we can tell there is actually a V8 under the hood!

I'm finishing up my coffee and heading out to chop off the HUGE muffler and replace with the muffler delete by MBRP. I too will be leaving flapper valve for now and then possibly do the spring mod to keep it open. Likely I'll run with this until I save up some sheckles for the full cat back. Truck sounds great man, nice job!

Not sure what that costs but my local exhaust guy does muffler deletes for $60 plus tax. He will take the flapper valve out too, make a new piece of pipe, and weld it in. Takes like 20 minutes once the truck is in the air. Your truck sounds good. Now it sounds like a proper V8.

Had a muffler shop remove the muffler and flapper on our 6.2L. Left the rear resonators in place. Sounds amazing and only cost me $100.

Did the same with and without the flapper cut out. Sounds 100x better with the flapper cut out also. Best sound tho is to cut muffler out and weld a 4” tip angled at the ground.

Is there drone with towing? I’m wondering with you leaving the flapper, if that is the reason you don’t have drone with regular driving without towing. But I’m curious if you have drone if you were to tow a camper. I do long trips with a camper and drone would drive me crazy. Love the sound!

My home is 1/4 mile from a Texas State Highway. When we moved here 6 years ago it was tranquil. Now, the highway has been widened and traffic has increased 10-fold. To make matters worse, in the middle of the night and early in the morning, I am jarred awake in my bedroom from the noise of every truck, car, and motorcycle that have 'deleted' mufflers. I thought they put mufflers on vehicles for a reason.

If it’s that loud sounds like more of an entire exhaust system replacement. A muffler delete doesn’t increase the volume by that much.

Just curious if you have the 5.3 or the 6.2? A lot of exhausts I'm finding are saying they're for 3" exhausts, when the exhaust on my 5.3 is 2.75". Has me hesitant on ordering them if they're not gonna fit.

It’s not too bad honestly, but I didn’t cut out the flapper valve. I know a lot of guys do, but I was following the directions provided by AFE with the muffler delete kit. I’ve been happy with it so far.

I did the same muffler delete…..with the exception of the pre manufactured pipe, muffler shop just welded a 3” pipe on mine. I did notice what seemed to be a decrease in low end torque and fuel mileage decreased by about 1.5-2 mpg. 2021 5.3 TB

If I were able to do it over, I would cut off the flapper and move my other cut to just behind the muffler. I was following the instructions from AFE exactly and it is designed to keep the flapper for some reason.

Just for your information the flapper valve is only for the 4-cylinder shutdown mode DOD so it does not sound like a helicopter on the highway
