Impressive you can admit being baffled! It's the fool who thinks he knows all, the wise that's always learning. Most wouldn't post all that was learned, you are a credit to your trade. Great video.

Ivan...good source for information, Eric O. It does makes sense to sync the crank sensor to the cam within the computer. Apparently that "old data" still communicates to the module giving out those fake misfires. Back tot he truck, it's 4 wheel steering which was an option for about $2,200 and Delphi made the components for GM. It looks like they have a Dana 44 front axle housing for the rear as it has the steering spindles and hooked up to that electric motor which is then wired to a sensor that is located on the steering column shaft at the dash. A really nice feature that should really continue to be offered due to the turning advantages it provides for pickup trucks that are crew cabs. It's a very rare truck to have the 4 wheel steering, 4x4 and the 6.0 engine especially in the 1/2 ton which is what the "HD" signifies for weight limits and that year was likely the only year they offered the 4 wheel steering in the 1/2 ton truck as most were 3/4 ton. Sounds nice and quiet under the hood for a 118k engine thanks to the "LS" design from GM.

Thanks for watching? Ha,, thanks for making... Split in boot for vacuum hose connection on fuel pressure regulator is part of what this truck will need fixed soon enough - 14:00 time stamp. I'm going to get a couple just to have. And I wouldn't have been reminded to do so without this video, so thank you.

Good find on the backprobing...I've run into this same scenario also. I find that it happens when wires are very close together such as on the PCM. Good video Ivan and nice to see the truck fixed as I'm sure the owner will be happy.

A good reason to "pokey-pokey" the wires, as Eric-O would say ;) On a more serious note, that backprobe issue means that we could cause all sorts of havok by backprobing if we accidentally shorted two wires. Great vid! Another awesome diagnosis!
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics 9 жыл бұрын
+Adrian Kingsley-Hughes Good point. I think in this case the backprobe pin can only touch one wire at a time, even though they are so close together...but it blew my mind how easy it was to "cross-probe" on this connector.

+wysetech2000 I think with GMs in general the CKP is king. The fact that the truck was running fine and I was getting nothing on the scope should have been a dead giveaway to check the lead connections!! Lesson learned for sure.

Fantastic trip in diognostics. Ivan there are up to three levels of parts available at GM , there all labeled AC Delco but their all not the part that was put on at the factory. Actually there are late model parts you can never buy from the dealer and their only put on at the factory and never sold retail but the dealer will sell you an aftermarket part - all OEM's do this. If you want a factory part (maybe ) it's at the dealer or you get an aftermarket 2&3rd line sometimes like as in rock auto at a great price LOL. The factory AC Delco CKP was not from onehunglow province in mainland China - ha I like the mainland China bit :) Ok for the probe placement could you use a line tracer to verify the scope lead is in contact with the right wire ?

Interesting . My truck with 5.3 was , having issues pulling my car trailer loaded up hills . done ok pulling until i let off gas to slow down it would run really rough or would stall if i stopped . It ended up being a lazy 02 sensor . and very interesting on the back probing

Oh not you didn't!?? You didn't really say poking a hole in the wire might not be a bad thing, did you!? Don't get me wrong, it's another great video and diagnostic win. 2 thumbs up. Piercing wires is a 'thing' for me. Being a retired Powertrain engineer, I know that people do it when it is difficult to back probe. However, Packard Electric engineering states it is not if the wire will fail, it's a matter of when. Moisture and corrosion are such big problems for vehicle wiring, PE goes to extreme measures to protect the copper core. I know it's tough to get the probe past the weather pack seals. I actually like the thin T-pins for back probing. I recall seeing you use some that are stored in your trusty Micronta multi-meter. Keep up the great videos.

A common situation with the Chrysler 2.7L V6 is when someone changes the timing chain or water pump to have it off one tooth which will prevent it from starting/running UNLESS you unplug the cam position sensor (which is a good/quick way to test for that plus get the car to another mechanic to get it fixed right).

03 Silverado 1500 5.3L cranks but won't start, no codes, security light goes out after a second. Changed crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, PCM (pcm's were programed to vin), wires&plugs, fuel filter&gas lines, relay and main window/lock switch. No five volts reference at PCM, no ignition pulse. Tried the 30+ minute relearn a few times, I tried to bypass the passlock 2 security but put that back. What next? Replace BCM or tow to dealer? You explain great, what do you suggest? Thanx

Hey bud new to the channel. I need a little help. I have a 04 silverado 4.3 just swapped it out for the same size motor except it’s from a 08 maybe 07 not sure. Only difference was new motor has two knock sensors rather then the one on the old motor and the crankshaft sensor was a little smaller compared to the old one. Problem I’m having is the new sensor for the 08-07 motor is the wiring isn’t labeled and Ive wired every which way I think 🤔. So my question is would the sensor resistance change even though the motor is the same and what can I do to find the rite way to wire my sensor. Thx.

Very cool! Yeah the technology is advancing at an incredible rate for sure. On modern vehicles most driveability problems are caused by failure in the electronic components. Not much you can do without a good scanner, DVOM and scope. Having a background in physics, engineering and circuit design certainly helps too. Thanks for the feedback!
