Chevy Silverado Rescued By The Bombi

So we got a call for a 2011 Chevy Silverado 4x4 stuck in the snow up on Kolob Terrace Road. Zion dispatch told us it was in deep snow and we needed the snow cat. It's a Bombardier Bombi (we think). We towed it up on Kolob Mountain with blue steel, a 2016 Ford F-250 Powerstroke Diesel.
When we got there, we realized the yellow banana would have been just fine, but the Bombardier made short work of towing him out! We got him turned around and on his way, he was super happy.

@@MattsOffRoadRecovery Exactly Matt, snowmobile driven packed roads are such an innocent looking surface and can even walk on it and think its solid, but put a vehicle on it with weight/hard aired up tires and once a tire spins down its game over and doesn't matter what tread they have, it's just impossible to get back out even with a very few inches of depth to solid ground. In this couples case from what I saw I would guess only if they had dug around the tires with a shovel and had a full set of chains to install ( and what a pain in the rear that would be to get them on in that mess ) , that would have given them the traction to chew their way out but if its too deep and diffs hit etc, your just screwed even with tire chains. The bombi is the tool to be out there with to yank, winch etc someone stranded in a mess like that with guaranteed extraction success. They were just lucky they had not gotten further up and really sunk themselves onto the frame. There will be those that will read my comment and think I am full of it, I welcome those to go and show how its done in that condition !

They don't drive themselves yet. Even my Subaru could have gotten itself out of that. Really, two inches of snow over asphalt? They could have dug a path with their feet back a few yards. Put it in neutral and pushed it back a few yards.

Thanks for supporting the rallycross circuit (Duivelsbergcircuit) in Belgium. At this moment there is still an investigation running to see if they will get an environmental permit and can stay open. They will know the outcome of the investigation early March, just in time for the start of the new season (if the outcome is positive).

A good rule of thumb in the winter is to not drive down a road where all of the previous tracks are from snowmobiles or tracked vehicles, lol. Snow is as unpredictable as sand.

I worked grooming snowmobile and cross country ski trails for about ten years in Idaho. I had a Bombi and a Tucker Sno Cat to groom several hundred miles of trails and sure enjoyed it. Those machines can get you in a world of hurt if you make the wrong decision LOL... ;-)

@@MegaWilliam2003 Not just 4x4 but any vehicle in tricky conditions. Had a case several years ago where 2wd car drivers were struggling through a dip in a field and I was in a 2wd van (road tyres) towing a caravan and didn't have a problem (other than trying to avoid other struggling cars !)

@@BretBerger Depends on whether you are from Quebec where they were made or from Saskatchewan where we rode them to school and they are now used to tow fishing shacks on and off the lakes. Still lots in recreational use in Quebec. Most are old style with skiis on the front.

I commented in a previous vid that you should get something tracked. Nothing beats it for sheer pulling power on mud, sand or snow. Just remember the low footprint it has when traversing DEEP snow. Don't just open the door and jump out, the little trees may be the tops of a much bigger tree!

I can't believe trucks get stuck so easy nowadays ? Years ago when we got lots of snow here in the PA. mountains, I owned 3 Dodge Power wagon trucks over a period of 15 years and never got stuck in the foot or more of snow we had often. Nowadays I pass stuck 4x4 trucks in 6 inches of snow with my KIA Sportage AWD. Maybe because the older trucks were heavier ?

I'm guessing lack of good driver education. Though for this guy if looks like lack of good winter tire. When I took drivers ed I was lucky and got to take it during winter here in NW IL. So I learned on snow. But a lot of HS now ,from what I've seen since graduating, aren't well versed in snow driving. Though I will give credit to this guy he did have a rope in his truck. Most people up here have med kit, recovery ropes, straps, blanket, food, and jumper cables in their trucks. It's just smart for when you get stuck. Heck, I've gotten my 03 dodge stuck in my road twice. Once was because it wasn't plowed and I lost momentum to make it through the last 5ft drift. The other was because I have worn tires, hit the 4" deep snow it yanked my steering cause me to do a 720, hit the snow pile on the side of the road and blew a head gasket.

@@Legoguy1979 Yea, we carry first aid kit, tow strap, army blanket, water and goodies bag, jumper cables 'or jump pack', etc. in our vehicles especially in winter. Cell service is spotty here and you can be sitting stuck for a long time.

Bombi. Is that a new arsenal in Casey's fleet. It was up to the task but really not much of a challenge. I just love the wide views of the western landscape. I love those Iron Red colors all around. There is beauty in rock formations and sand.
