Great video. I'm glad you didn't cancel your "rant" which really wasn't a rant. It educated me into not believing "we will fix it" after the charges go thru. I learned from you about hot water and coolant needing to be washed off of belts. In 45 years of working on my own cars/trucks I hadn't heard that before. Also I'm now very cautious about using my carbide scraper. Kind Regards, Craig

Thank you. I’ve been having the worst luck lately with almost everything. I can’t do much lately without some problems coming out of it. I try to be positive though. I heard washing the coolant off the belts from south main auto. I took it as advice from someone who has quite a bit more experience than me. I didn’t used to but It seems easy so I wash it off now.

I had the same problem with Advance Auto and they didn’t want to refund my money. I’m a pretty big guy with a pretty big temper which I controlled until they basically called me a liar. Well the called the cops and I decided to leave. Took the part to the Advance the next town over and was refunded the money and was out the door in five minutes. Well that was six years ago and I never went back and now use Orielly’s or NAPA and if I can wait for the part I use Rock Auto or Amazon. I was a Service and Parts Director for GM for 30 years and I find that customer service in every industry is almost non existent.

I think that was the worst part is the stores were insinuating we were trying to scam them and were lying. The issue with Autozone was never really fixed by them. The bank did a reverse debit to get our money back, Based on the two charges that were 1 minute apart. I usually get parts from eBay or rock auto too. There is an advance I deal with for our work account and they are pretty good. If something happens I don’t worry they will fix it. They are farther away is why I didn’t use them in the first place.

Hi, thank you for the video, I haven't had to do do a waterpump in over 20 years but will be doing it tomorrow weather permitting. I work part time for the chain of stores you bought your battery @, I am sorry you had issues I have experienced that problem a couple of times where we couldn't see the transaction after it was cancelled but showed it pending on the customer's account in the times I saw it happen the $$ was returned usually in a day or so
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic Жыл бұрын
I think that was the expectation for the pending transaction to be reversed, but when It didn’t and completed the manager decided to ignore us and pretend like it didn’t happen. I know weird things happen and I’m fortunate enough to have a bit of wiggle room in my finances so it wasn’t a huge deal waiting to resolve the problem. The real problem was the manager refusing to do anything until forced to. In the end the bank did a reverse debit to get the money back because we did a dispute with them. I know service like this is a person by person problem and I don’t blame all parts stores. Just a run of bad luck I guess.

Jason I have had issues like that from auto parts stores as well sometimes I think it’s because of the employees that they hire to be managers are not really management material they don’t know how to resolve problems and keep it on the lower level and you still get the job done I think it is a big problem because when they’re hired in they don’t send them through management they don’t teach them management position they just hire them give them the title and say here you go and drop it in their lap and therefore the customer is treated terrible. I own a business and I would never treat my customers like this I always want them to come back because it’s important that they do that is how I make my income.

What your saying makes sense. I notice they don’t give them much authority either. Everything needs to go through a corporate person that no one can talk to. I’m lucky enough that I don’t live paycheck to paycheck and I can absorb problems like these until they are fixed, it just seems like it’s happening more and more these days.

Wow those are some crazy situations. I feel with auto parts stores all the time and the employees are usually pretty incompetent but not that bad. I'm pretty sure ford doesn't have their special orange anymore. They say to use dexcool and on the back of a dexcool bottle it says to use it on like 2011 and newer Ford's that call for specialty orange

The store I go through for work usually is pretty good. I try and do the leg work myself and find the part numbers and info from their sites so I can ask for the part I need. Just going through a rough patch I guess.

You may have a clog or a bad hose. Could also be a bad pump. I’ve gotten a bad pump before that was whining. I changed everything else thinking it was a good pump and it wasn’t. I replaced the pump because of whining. I didn’t think the new one was the problem because it did it right away so I thought it wasn’t the problem.

I pretty much just buy stuff online. Ships right to my house and is usually 1/2 price over the corporate auto parts stores. I use rock auto for parts number search and buy through them or Amazon. Batteries, Walmart or a mom and pop auto parts store. $200 for a battery is criminal.

I notice most the shop tools you use are snap-on and your home tools are harbor freight. Do you think there's an actual difference in actual usage? I don't have many harbor freight sockets or any snap-on tools. Most of mine are old school Craftsman or other tools from twenty plus years ago. I do have the ratcheting wrenches from the HF. Just wondering about your preferences as a pro.
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic
@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
I still have a craftsman socket set I bought 20 years ago. I was pretty hard on it and never broke any of the sockets. I break the snapon tools at work all the time. The snap on does have a more refined feel and the ratchets are better but the price is ridiculous for what you get. The tools at work are the towns tools and I just use them. I don’t mind the HarborFreight stuff. They are a bit less refined but the price is right so I get them. I have some sunex and gear wrench stuff too but the harbor freight ones are usually more accessible so that’s what you see most. With the flex head ratchets from HarborFreight the pivot screw keeps coming loose and the direction selector goes to neutral and reverse too easy which is kinda annoying, but 20 for the harbor freight compared to 120 for the snap on and I’ll deal with it. With the snap on sockets I use the chrome comes off pretty easy and the impact ones get rust on them. Almost everything I use them on is covered in salt so it might not be a fair judgement. I don’t have any of the icon tools so I can’t compare those except the 3/8 impact sockets which I like, the cheap ratchets I do have will get the job done but have there faults.
@billsmith4490
@billsmith4490 2 жыл бұрын
@@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic Thanks, I use my old stuff until it either breaks and I replace it with the "new" V series of craftsman stuff or get the HF stuff too. It's not as good as the old stuff but like you said it gets the job done. I inherited a lot of old craftsman tools from my dad when he passed so I have two of almost everything in craftsman and the rebuild kits for the ratchets.

I believe it is a left hand thread and there are two holes in the water pump pully that you will put a large pin type wrench into to hold the pully still while you remove the fan clutch. Or you can use a air hammer with a chisel bit to remove the fan clutch. You will put the chisel on the edge of the large nut and hammer it in the direction to remove it. This vehicle has electric fans so I didn’t need to remove the mechanical fan which is why it wasn’t in the video.

@@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic I have been in similar situations where the store or provider has no incentive to correct the situation. The BBB (Better Business Bureau) website has an on-line system where you enter a case and they will see it thru. The store will not like a strike against them, and the corporate HQ will not be pleased as they end up in their database. Hate to do it but it does work.

I had to do that with emanual.com. I got a manual and they gave me one that was for the wrong year truck. I emailed them and tried to exchange it for a different one the correct year and they refused to exchange it or give a credit. I sent them the proof and a copy of there return policy and they still refused. They gave me a credit after I did a bbb complaint, which is all I asked for. Appently the only other manual they had was for a computer and I didn’t have a computer I used them on my phone. It worked out in the end but was problematic. I’ve gotten a few manuals from them and only had the problem once.

I do the same thing soooooo, no? I’ve actually been side tracked from watching people work on stuff. I’ve been getting into stock trading. I dabbled in the past but for the last 6 months I’ve been pretty engrossed into it trying to learn as much as I can. Between that, youtube, work, and my own junk, i don’t have much time to watch other people. That was kinda of an off track answer but to answer your question. No not bad at all.

The timing chain is behind the pump. You need a puller and installer tool to get the balancer off and on to get the cover off. I have not replaced the timing chain set. I believe it’s supposed to be good for the life of the engine from what I’ve seen. I have about 235000 on mine at the moment.
