Thanks for sharing your genius idea with me. I am about to have to change my fuel pump and I have been thinking about finding a junk Suburban that I could cut the floor out of to use as the access point cover after cutting the hole in my floor. This however would be much easier for me to acquire the things that I need to do the job with. I was thinking about just dropping the tank and then I remembered that I have a full tank of fuel also and no help with that process so that’s out of the question.

Thanks Mike. Really appreciate this video. I wanted to tell you of my project. Much the same as yours but I cut a 2 gallon ziplock bag in half, sprayed 3m adhesive on the area and laid the plastic over the target area then laid the fiber glass with epoxy resin i had on hand. Everything else followed your ideas. I cleaned up the remaining adhesive afterwards with acetone. I'm a happy camper.

I got one of the fuel pump lock ring tools and it makes this job a LOT easier. Of course you have to get to the pump first LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I don't mean to be snarky or argumentative. Is it really easier to do all this vs dropping the tank? It seems like a lot more work and expense. I've dropped a tank on a 93 quad cab dually Sierra w/6.5 diesel but that was under the truck bed. I just bought a 2005 Yukon SLT. I'm trying to learn what I can as the truck is on in years and will need a fuel pump soonish. Thanks for any replies.

You are correct that this project might be harder than dropping the tank this one time. The next time the fuel pump needs to be changed should be able to be done in an hour vs dropping the tank every time.

I just put a new fuel pump in my 03 Tahoe and I dropped only one side of the tank and it only took about an hour

If you live in the salt belt dropping the tank is not an option on these older trucks. If u were to take the straps off they will never go back in due to the frame slots being completely rotted away

@@curtisclevenger8800Hey Curtis, can you clarify, what you mean, regarding dropping “one side” of the tank..? For instance the right or left side or front to back..? I’m a bit “thick headed”…, thank you.

You say that now, but if you plan on keeping your truck like I do, you can bet that the next time it goes out you will probably be in the middle of nowhere and you will need a quick fix, right?

Okay, everything went well except putting the seat back in after the fuel pump project. The seat bolted up fine but the latch that holds the back of seat in place doesn't work now. It worked before I took it out so I must have messed up something. There's a spring that secures the latch that seems to be the problem. Anyone else have this experience?

Is the actual latch mechanism staying shut? If so I had this happen to me and had to pull on the actual rod that goes to the mechanism and pull to get it to pop loose and open again.

@@MakeItMike Yes thank you. I took the seat back out and couldn't see anything wrong (but did not really know how that mechanism precisely works). So I did the next best thing and brought out the WD40. I also worked it around a little and low and behold, it now works. Maybe dirt or something I couldn't see was preventing the springed latch from locking into place. I love it when things go right. :-)

If you do it the way you said, your floor will rust to crap in no time. Best take yours to a mechanic.

Good job,. I did this on my Avalanche before. Bit of advice,. I only cut 3 sides of the floor and bent it up to access the pump. That way all you have to do is bent it back and then seal the cuts with sound deadening tape or something similar. Keep up the good work,. Subbed.
