Thank you for sharing this. This worked for me on my 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 6.0L V8. Anytime I put a load on the engine pulling a trailer or during heavier acceleration, I would get a P0300 misfire. Never ever did it identify a cylinder so I could never isolate it. I had 150,000km (95000Miles). I replaced all the plugs, wires, Distributor cap and checked each injector with no change. My brother in law is a GM trained mechanic so I got him to bring his Snap-On Code scanner over. He set it up and it took about 30 seconds to do the re-learn. I have pulled my trailer and tried several variants of re-creating the scenarios that would produce the code. Guess what? No codes ever since the re-learn. My brother in law was not even aware of this.

Thank you. I've been working on trucks for 30 years and had the $1200 dollar autel scanner. I had a lifter tick and a miss on 2 and 7. The truck sat for years but started right up and ran relatively well with the miss. I tore the whole top of the motor apart, replaced 2 weak lifters and Felpro gaskets. No tick no miss and that check engine light flashed at highway speed. My heart sank. I pulled out the scanner and it wouldn't work because the engine temperature HAS TO BE A MINIMUM OPERATING TEMPERATURE! I'm an idiot and thought that meant low. It has to be at regular operating temp. Runs great no flash. Thanks man!

I did the crankshaft relearn with my scanner, and Bam!!! Running like new again. The problem was weird because I had no shaking or obvious misfire by any plug, coil or wires. How long has it been working correctly now? Usually 0300 is related to something all cylinders share, like an intake leak or the maf not showing enough flow so the ecm doesn't send enough fuel. Apparently though, those engines have tons of possible causes for that code.

And you're supposed to go to the dealership but most of the time you can just run a wire from your positive battery cable to your negative battery cable making sure you isolate them from the battery and it will clear your CPU and when you reattach your battery wires your CPU will do the relearn for you for your crankshaft position sensor that's how I cleared mine because I took it to the dealer and they refused to clear it they just cleared the code but the code is in the memory of your CPU and will continue . Unless you clear it from the memory of the CPU .

Random misfire affects more than one cylinder. 99 percent of the time it's not a multiple malfunction such as two or more spark plugs going bad at one time or two coils unless it's the double coil that sparks two cylinders or two injectors going bad at the same time. Now that being said if the plugs have never been changed in like 10 years or so the odds would be there probably all misfiring but a vehicle that's maintained and sudden random misfire is going to affect the entire engine and usually more than one cylinder. The computer is trying to counter the misfire so as to not leave you stranded or breaking down in an intersection and so on. The light flashes to get your attention and let you know something serious is going on and it's doing all it can do to get you out of possible harms way. On the 4.2 with the same codes running poor at best I have found on two of them cracked egr valves. Practically unnoticeable until they were cleaned and gasket surface buffed. No egr codes. Third one the entire plastic intake bolts were backing out. You could turn them with your fingers. Egr valves and bolts tightened computer reset no codes and run just fine. Just throwing it out there.

Flashing cel comes on once warmed up and below 1,2000 rpms. Stalls if I don’t keep idle steady on accelerator or try to shift in any gear other than P and N. It all started over a year ago after I changed intake manifold and valve cover gaskets. What the heck could have happened? Or was it just coincidence? So the next day it would turn over. Click and clunk. That’s it. Depressing. Gonna do smoke leak test next.

It is possible the code is stored and needs to be erased. Another thing how that snuck up on me was an intake leak and most times it ran fine expect when really damp weather came in during the fall and then it really showed itself during the real real cold weather. So If I were you instead thinking the truck has gone Pelosi flakey redo the intake gasket and save yourself some real grief. My engine blew from the leak. I got hit by a vehicle on a back road less than 2 miles from my home with the intention of when I got first warm day I already had the intake gaskets but fate came and went I used the truck the very next day and the engine went sky high. Now I am back on here because I have the P0300 again but more than likely it's what this guy is saying the new engine sensor is not getting along with the computer. More than likely that truck he has has a new or used engine that was self installed and the old owner just couldn't figure it out.

I think that's what I'm going to do to mine, I have a 04 2500hd 2wd with the 6.0 lq4 like you. I tow my horse trailer with at least one quarter horse every week and it likes to misfire at around 4k (in tow/haul or wide open throttle other wise)for me but lately(really just today and yesterday after I replaced my fan clutch) it's been driving okay but I've only been around town doing maybe 60 at most for not very long. My truck has a little over 88.7k miles. I also rarely tow a 11 thousand pound camper with my 5th wheel, and I have to do it again in a week and I would rather have it corrected before I go up on my trip. And i agree too I've read a ton of forum posts with guys saying they pretty much changed every thing under the hood ignition wise and most of the sensors, replaced their fuel system components and still get stumped until they do the relearn and that fixes their problem. I guess it's worth a try too for me.

@thekingsilverado90044 жыл бұрын
A choppy idle is more than likely the Idle Air Control or intake gaskets. IAC is located on the front of the throttle bodies. A real high or real low idle can also happen from the IAC. A bad cam and crank sensor will make it idle low and or also run with a lack of power and do exactly what he is describing. Your problem sounds diff. Also do not discount looking for that Vapor Canister Solenoid behind the cab on the frame ya gotta jack your bed up on the drivers side to get at that critter it's a bastard of a job.

P0301 is usually an upstream 02 sensor. In other cases that turns out to be Intake Gaskets. The INNOVA scanners actually will not pick up an intake leak those scanners like I have may make U think all or one of the 02 sensors R bad like it did to me and I changed all of them even both the Vapor Canister solenoids. I had 2 problems myself rolled into one. After dropping a new motor in I also used cheap Chinese intake gaskets and had a leak which sent me to replacing everything. Then I come to find out after replacing cats 02 sensors and the emissions stuff that the computer needs a relearn. I am having the exact problem this guy is describing. I have a very subtle low curb idle and slight rough idle now when hot other than that it runs fine. It's just the computer is not tuned to the new cam and crank sensors.
