I feel you- two years ago this month my husband died from pancreatic cancer and every day I miss him, and every day I work on converting the pain to joy. Knitting became my therapy. I might only wear the sweater once or twice a year, but knitting that sweater got me through that dark time. Thank you so much for being honest.

Donna here, it is ALWAYS a treat to see you! You are my favorite knitter. I lost my son to stomach cancer and a month and ten days later I lost my mom to lung cancer. That was 6 years ago and I still can't listen to certain songs I get mad every spring and don't want to talk to anyone. I picked up learning to knit bc my mom had needles and yarn in a basket when I came to her house that she left me. It helped that I had something to concentrate on other than the sorrow around me. Thank you for talking about this subject.

Oh, my, that’s so much in such a short period of time😞 I try to think of it as there have been many before us that get through and we will too….. not that that helps the hurt any. I find knitting/crochet to be soothing to the soul, and don’t know what I would do without it 💜

So excited to see you again. As others have already stated, we love you, missed you, and in no way would we put any pressure on any of you wonderful podcasters out there. You guys do amazing work for us to enjoy. And we all can't state it enough or in good enough words the sympathy and empathy we feel for the loss of your dad and others.❤ On your thoughts regarding making things you don't wear, etc, I think and behave the exact same way. I try to wear all the things I have crocheted, and mostly I do, and I try to keep my collections of yarn and other fibre crafts and tools, down to a minimum. I support local makers and producers for the most part. Have tried other yarn crafts, including picking up knitting again, but it all comes back to my passion for crochet. I am also trying to make something for each of my nieces and nephews as legacy pieces as I did not have any children. And I want them to remember me😂. I think there are worse things we could spend our money on, and why do we feel guilty for enjoying what brings us mental health peace and joy! We women are so good and feeling guilty. Anyway, I always love you Chevas for speaking out loud about things that I, too, have bouncing around in my brain all the time. You are the best, make us smile, and bring us joy. We support you from far and wide in your struggles as we have experienced similar things. We deeply thank you for your public presence, honesty, and hardwork!❤❤❤

Hi Chevas! So great to see you. Glad you’re starting to feel better. I recently had the same conversation with myself about making things that I will actually wear! Like you said we grow and our ideas of what we what to make and wear changes as well. I live in a very hot region and have decided to no longer knit pullover sweaters. I discovered that I prefer wraps instead of triangle shawls.

So glad you feel like you are heading in the right direction but I dont think you need to apologize for feeling a family loss from your world. It is a truth that significant loss puts our world out of sequence. It makes all routines seem as though they don’t matter as much BUT slowly you understand that you need the routines of “normality” to make you feel as though the loss is slowly getting bearable. If we are lucky enough we will all understand that one day our memories will one day make us smile and feel loved instead of making us feel empty and sad. Hang in there and I wish that you begin each day smiling.❤ Patty (Southern Festival Girl)

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Since I learned to knit, I have been selective about what I make. That probably stems from my frugal upbringing...if I won't use something, I refuse to spend hard-earned money on it. I have heard so many people say they don't wear their makes and that doesn't sense to me. I spend too much money and time to not use/wear them.

Welcome back! Your voyager is so fabulous! I have had the same thought as you about wearable pieces and am focusing on that this year as well. Too bad, I am getting bored with the things I would wear as more “staples”. I started thinking about project vs process knitters. I have always thought of myself as a project knitter but now realize I need some process items going too in order to stay interested! Project to me now is focused on what I want for my wardrobe and could see using regularly. Big decision for ,e now is do I gift or donate the items I don’t use or wear.

Hey Chevas- with your ribbing going down a needle size is worth trying but you still might get an uneven rib. What I’ve done recently is Combination knitting and that works, really get a very neat even rib. Andrea Mowry has a tutorial but essentially you knit the knits as usual but one the first round with your purls you bring the yarn UNDER the needle instead of above. This twists the stitch so on the next round you purl through back loop. Takes a bit of getting used to but it really works. And on the topic of wearing/not wearing your knits. I’m like you, started knitting with a zillion different colours that look great together in the skein -ended up with crazy colourful garments that O don’t wear. Now I’m looking to my wardrobe seeing what I need , a vest to go under that cardigan, a solid colour dark navy shawl to match a few sweaters. And knitting more Danish designs, more neutrals. It’s working out well, worth doing and I still enjoy the process, looking forward to the FO.

Ooh!!! I want to look up that ribbing technique for sure. Thanks for the suggestion.😁

Always a good day to see your beautiful face! You never have to explain anything. Life happens and you should do the things that make you happy and take time to recharge when you need too 🖤 I loved hearing how you are reflecting on your knitting lately (Knitical Thinking! 😂). It is important to refocus sometimes on what you do wear/use and what projects/colours were not working for you as life changes. Also, a good brain space to be in for a home edit pre-garage sale! Hope it well and was therapeutic to have a ‘lighter home’ in the end. Less things gives more time for knitting! Keep taking care of yourself you gorgeous human! 😁
