Long time follower, first time commenter: I never coached BJJ myself (I've just been training for about 1 1/2 years now) but I taught otherwise for a while and I found out that: - when you begin teaching it is absolutely normal to think you might not know enough about a certain topic to teach it (usually, you are wrong, it's called imposter syndrome and means you're not too full of yourself to be a good teacher) - when you get to teach a subject, it's an amazing path to get a way deeper understanding of the subject matter - good coaches don't claim to know everything but are open about the fact that a position might not be their strong suit Keep up the good work, Chewy! The BJJ world is a bit brighter because of what you do here.

I love watching these videos while I’m playing games or am bored or want advice on my training because I am a white belt about 3 months maybe 4 months in and I’m loving it so far

I forced myself to use Scissor sweep and it ended up my most used and most effective sweep! Never know if you don’t go for it.

I’m just now starting at a new gym that follows a more Gracie like curriculum and I’m looking forward to it because my previous gym they jumped all over the place and it didn’t make a lot of sense to me at first, I’m also looking forward to bringing some of the advanced things I did learn along and build a more effective base here

I’m going to force myself to play more guard as a former wrestler top positions always care more natural, passing and holding pressure but it’s the bottom that is basically non existent

Hey man! I love your videos, Im new to bjj several of you vids are extremely useful! I have a question for you: what are the top (lets say) 3 fastest/safest ways to end a street fight asuming the opponent has no bjj training?

Hey chewy, question man. Is it normal to prefer learning from somebody other than your head coach? Don't get me wrong, my head coach is fantastic and has a ton of in depth knowledge, but there's a brown belt at my gym who just seems to always want to teach the exact type of stuff I want to learn at the time. Is it normal to learn better from somebody other than your head coach in your gym?

I'm not Chewy but of course dude! You should learn from EVERYONE especially your training partners!

When I roll with higher belts, they give me tips and show me some new stuff, and then I tend to practice that with them a lot / ask them more about. My coach doesn't mind and encourages it- really upped my game! Hope you can do whatever helps up yours :)

How do we issue chewy questions for him to potentially answer? Is there an email? The comment section?

write it down and put it in a wishing well. Alternatively, you could just post it here :)

Did you open your gym as a purple or were you working under a black belt at the time who did it with you. I’m a blue belt been training about 2.5 years. Would eventually like to teach and maybe open a gym in the future. Thanks.

For whatever reason I always found it more fun to pull guard and play off my back. Keep it up bro, spiders great.

Spider guard is my absolute favorite, gives me all the reason to be on my back ! (it helps that I have long-ish arms relative to my body)

Is it because, like me, you're a 1 stripe white belt and are terrible at all the techniques?
