I remember these peanut butter bars. I grew up in Marietta and Elementary school in the 60's. Lunchroom food was pretty good! Especially these bars. Yum

These same peanut butter bars were a staple menu item in elementary school lunch program throughout my county, during the mid- 60s. All the kids loved them. I started thinking about them one day a few years ago - searched online for a recipe that looked right, and made them. Looked just like yours, but I don't recall if there was peanut butter in the frosting too - but there should be! Gonna make these again SOON. Love your channel.

I made these and my husband and I could not leave them alone. They are so delicious. I did use 1 cup less powered sugar in the icing. They turned out wonderful!!!

Our family are peanut butter lovers especially when you add chocolate. Will have to try these . I think I'll add some chocolate chips to the top while they're hot so they melt on them. Then I'll spread it out and let it set. Then add the icing. Yumm.

I have been looking for this recipe for a couple of years. Back in the 70's my mom would make this recipe with a chocolate frosting and mail them to me while I was at college. My favorite. Thank you.

I am watching your channel and fixed your Chocolate Pudding! Your like family to me, husband died of small cell lung Cancer. I am sorry you experienced Cancer in your life! Loved peanut butter chews growing up and have made “schoolhouse peanut butter chews” many times the ones I grew up eating had a touch of rolled oats and the glaze on top was different like a crystallized sugar with a touch of peanut butter almost like a simple syrup with peanut butter that hardens just a bit, that’s how I make them so nostalgic.

My boyfriend doesn't care for peanut butter much. HOWEVER, I told him, I used to get these from the lunch lady in elementary school. It will change your mind about peanut butter! Tammy, I made your recipe several times over the past year or two and HE LOVES THEM! I knew that he would. I LOVE these and your recipe is EXACTLY how I remember it. Hi Tammy & Chris! Who doesn't love these peanut butter bars?! My crew devours them! It didn't take them long to pick the recipe out of your cookbook and learn to make them. Their solution for the generous amount of frosting is to make two batches of the peanut butter bars! I remember waiting in the lunchroom line in anticipation, too. I would have been happy making my entire lunch out of those "lunchroom lady" rolls, these peanut butter bars & a carton or two of ice cold milk! Ohhh....the carbs & calories!! Those were the days! While this looks like a very good and delicious cookie bar recipe, that's not how we made them when I worked in the school cafeteria. We didn't have time to spread a thick dough onto those full sheet pans. Our batter was pourable.

I made these for my brother-in-law a few years ago. He loved them (he's a PB nut)! I think they would be really good with a chocolate frosting OR put this PB frosting on a chocolate brownie. I have zero good memories of school lunches--I hated them. I still to this day can't eat a tater tot or fish stick. I guess we just didn't have the good cooks others had.
