Cheyenne Buckalew could you do a video on getting experience? Like how to deal with applying for places that require experience when you just got done with school trying to get a job.

How would you deal with a Dentist saying, "you don't know what you're doing"? I actually had that and did what you did by ignoring it. Do you think the pay at first should be higher than one would think? They always ask that in the interview or it's talked about afterward. Is it best to introduce with name and title even though it's not the office norm? Thanks for being of help.

I’m such a perfectionist and I’ve been beating myself up about assisting. I’ve been working at an office for a month now and I feel like I haven’t caught on fast enough. Everyone says that I’m doing great, but I’m stuck in my head.
@shaskins155 жыл бұрын
I've been assisting for 6 years and I still do this. Being overly critical of yourself doesnt help you learn, it makes it harder..studies prove this. So take a deep breath, remember that experience is invaluable and you're doing far better than you think!

Nastia thanks for the advice! I’ve been taking it easier than when I first started by not over analyzing myself. Also, I feel comfortable enough to ask questions when I’m confused.

I'm one of the few male dental assistants. I've been a DA for more than 8 years. It really is a hard job. Sometimes there are days I wonder how I managed to last this long.

Hi Cheyenne. What about the patients that google everything and they start talking about dentistry, or they resist to get X-rays? That's awful.. hehe

I feel like I would like to be a dental assistant but I am not the most outgoing person. I do love helping people but I’m nervous to have everyone depending on me when I’m new. What would you say to someone with social anxiety? That’s wild your friend quit after going to school. This was very helpful to know what I’m getting myself into. Thank you! I also work at a retail store, I just really need the pay, and I want a dentist to be nice to me, I’m nervous to be in charge of the patients records or appointments cause I can be forgetful, I want to help but I need some slack in the office. I guess I should just try it out, is starting pay 20 usually if you get your diploma? What’s the difference between a certified or registered and also I’m in Oregon as well looking into going in a program for dental assisting. A little confused on how everything works but I’m interested!

Hey, I was wondering if you can wear nail polish since I see you have some on in this video, thank you
@amberjohnson88773 жыл бұрын
It’s different for each office. Some offices allow nail polish but no acrylics, some allow anything, and some even allow none. I would say your best bet is asking your office (or future office) what their dress code policy is! I hope this helped some! 😊

It is hard to get into this career if you are an older individual. I went to DA school. Was not able to get an internship, or get hired while in school. I was top 5 of 20 in my class. Became certified with DA Certification and Radiology Certified. Out of school for one year with lots of "working interviews". Can get lots of interview calls, but when they meet me and realize my age, 58, they avoid me after the interview. I am ready to throw in the towel 😕.

Cathy Simon Work as a temp assistant until you get hired as a full time assistant. When I was temping, in conjunction with my permanent job, I received job offers from three of the offices I temped at when they saw how good I was. Temp assistants are always in demand. Even if you don't get a permanent job right away, you're still making money and you get to work when you want and where you want. I'm a male dental assistant. I also face discrimination, but with gender instead of age. Don't let age, gender, ethnicity or any of those things stop you from pursuing a career as a DA!

Hey Cheyenne love your videos. Wish I had watched these videos when I was in school, very helpful and informative. I graduated from a dental program in October of 2018 and still have not landed a job in the field yet. Is there anything I can do to stand out since I don’t have much experience but only extern/intern experience. I hope you see this

Is a dental receptionist and dental assistant the same thing?
@CheyenneBuckalew2 жыл бұрын
No, receptionist schedule patients and handle insurance up front. Dental assistants work in the back with the dentist and hygienist. Most states require dental assistants to go through schooling.
