CHI VS CLOPAY

Clopay is made in troy Ohio. They are a very nice company. I toured there plant in summer of 2018.

Hello I just would like to say I install CHI doors every day and I truly enjoy the product. As well as other brands but no brand compares to the high quality of this product. Yes it does need to be installed properly. Hello from Canada! Great video pal!

My 4 year old Clopay door has the model number on the side and is very easy to see. However, my door blew of the tracks and was hanging by one wire and the garage door opener from Hurricane Laura. Now I am looking at Clopay, Overhead Door, and CHI for quotes for a 20 x 8 garage door.

It's not that the springs didn't match, likely, it's that galvanized springs cannot maintain their spring rate.

Find it funny galvanized springs last longer and all springs are rated on cycle. And yes clopay has a model number on the bottom section on a sticker

Double hinges = whether the door is lighter/heavier the benefits are the same. I.E. THE WEIGHT WILL BE PROPORTIONATELY DISTRIBUTED, the wider/longer the Shaft of the roller/double hinge will distribute less stress/weight per inch. Also while I PERSONALLY PREFER the OIL TEMPERED torsion springs over GALVANIZED I can also tell you this, the galvanized spring will ALWAYS LAST LONGER THAN OIL TEMPERED ........ BUT the GALVANIZED spring TYPICALLY (or in my personal experience) QUITS DOING ITS JOB EFFECTIVELY WAAAAAYYYY BEFORE IT FINALLY BREAKS! Also there’s no rhyme or reason to when galvanized springs decide to fatigue/lose spring tension. On the other hand OIL TEMPERED (again my preferred choice for said reasons) seem to consistently have a more predictable/scientific fatiguing process which helps to establish a good schedule for preventative maintenance. This video is very disingenuous, you have a nugget of truth in some of your statements but you don’t follow through with any substance to prove your point that has SOME truth to it, let alone enough substance to SUBSTANTIATE your entire statement (ie your galvanized vs oil tempered). There are good reasons much of the industry prefers oil tempered you just don’t seem to know those reasons or hopefully you DO know the reasons you just didn’t share them here or aren’t able to articulate said reasons. CLOPAY/CHI/WAYNE DALTON ETC ETC ALL MAKE THE SHITTIEST DOORS ON EARTH!! And guess what another TRUE STATEMENT CLOPAY/CHI/WAYNE DALTON ETC ETC ALL MAKE THE HIGHEST QUALITY DOORS ON EARTH!! HERES THE THING THEY All make similar to ours to one another they all make multiple different models these models are then segmented into different tiers of quality within each tear/model whether the consumers made aware of this or not the dealers/distributors allow for many many modifications to suit each customers specific wants and needs. Like when you order a chi OR a CLOPAY sandwich steel door you can choose (double stile/hinge, 7ball short stem or 10 ball 4”/7”/9” long stem or 10/11/13ball bearing nylon rollers in a 4/7/9”stem . And now we have PRECISION BEARING ROLLERS to add to ALL the above mentioned roller options....poly= urethane or styrene insulation. 1”, 1-3/8, 1-15/16, or 2”, single spring or dual spring! 1.75” inside diameter (I.D.) 2” ID, 2-5/8” and so on and so on.. how many struts do you want?) there are 1 million options offered on each garage door by each garage door manufacturer.) once you get into be nice stuff you cannot differentiate between one brand and the other because all the nice stuff like the sandwich steel polyurethane insulated doors are essentially identical from one manufacture to the next the only difference is the logo on the outside.

What are good roller and hinge options for a residential door that is mid grade? Is it possible to get a lower end door but better hinges, springs, etc... im considering a chi Madison door but I have no idea what grade it's considered.

I appreciate the comparison but Clopay has MANY different level of doors. What exact models are you comparing??? You can't compare a Corolla to a Lexus...

Well he’s wrong on about the metal style goin to bottom on a clopay. Clopay doors has a square plate just for your hinge to attach too.

U shouldn't compare the quality of these two brands when u really don't know any real facts...ideal brand (menards) is a division of clopay...galvanized springs r not sold on every door...it's an option for some sitiuations...

Update: I also dislike it because no garage door is necessary bad. A garage door is a garage door WHAT CAN GO WRONG WITH A GARAGE DOOR. Maybe some are thinner than others or the hinges are thin. You can definitely go wrong with the springs and cables. Wayne Dalton same I bet they will last 20+ years if you don’t mess with it. Torquemaster springs i don’t know how bad those where because I never wen’t through a Wayne Dalton door that much.

Why is there a trolley operator bracket in the middle of a door with a jackshaft operator? Also the part of the door you're talking about being screwed on is called an end style. CHI and Clopay are both junk. Overhead Door and Raynor are the good stuff.
