Crawford door is an installer, not a brand. They are in Ypsilanti MI, 10 miles west of Detroit. They are still around and do good work.

The last thing you want to do is use pressure treated lumber for anything on that door for mounting. The lags sent will be eaten away by the chemicals in that lumber. Standard lumber is just fine.

The problem with the bottom seal screws is that they don't use stainless steel and they rust in place so the next time you replace the bottom seal, you have to add about 30 extra minutes to get the damn screws out to remove the old seal.

That door did look like a nice quality door. The use of white end-stiles on a sandwich door makes for a clean interior appearance. I like Clopay's vertical groove long panel. How much taller is the door than the opening? The weatherseal along the header is covering the top of the raised panel. I can't tell from the video, but I think the top section is 18" tall, not 21". If you were to place one of the lower 21" sections up top, it may keep the seal from sitting within the raised panel. - just my quick observation. Also, i know a guy who could get you a nice opener for that door :)
@matthewrodgers61945 жыл бұрын
Dave, the only thing that would make the screws in the weather seal better is if they were closer to the end of the section.....the rubber will still shrink eventually all the way to the screw....10 inches from the edge

Wayne Dalton also got Kinnear around that era, looking at old literature in online digs they had some really neat stuff back in the day, especially in commercial/industrial doors and special applications. Wayne Dalton brochures I have from the early/mid 90's have Wayne Dalton, Crawford and Kinnear logos on the back...
@affordabledoorgatellc73915 жыл бұрын
That's cool, when I was down at the Wayne Dalton plant they told us about Kinnear but never heard anything about Crawford. I sure do wish I could see door installs from the 50's and 60's

I have a Amarr 7x8 door installed at my house and recently purchased a 7x8 clopay insulated door to replace it. Will the clopay work on the same track as the amarr?

I've watched this video several times just to remind myself of different tricks I could do I installed a 16' x 7' clopay door and really the only thing I didn't lke was that the two handles that it came with were plastic, so I took a handle off the old wood door, cleaned it up and used it instead of the plastic handles. I just kinda felt that the plastic handles weren't really a roalbust handle

Ah! You put in a Clopay Gallery Series door, very sharp looking! Clopay does make a decent door, I just don't care for their 18 gauge narrow body hinges as well as plastic none ball bearing rollers on sandwich doors. I do however love their Gallery Series, and their Coachman Series. That old Crawford you tore out, Id say was late 50s early 60s era. Nice size garage tho.
@affordabledoorgatellc73915 жыл бұрын
Man know you got me thinking, I'm sure I had ball bearings maybe the secretary upgrade me I always tell here to get the best. What's your flavor of choice on garage doors Joe?
@joepowell26195 жыл бұрын
AFFORDABLE DOOR & GATE LLC Yes, you've got the upgraded rollers and hinges, which is the way to go. As for my taste, I do like Clopay. I think they have some really eye catching designs especially with there Gallery Series both wood tone and solid colors. I also think their Coachman doors are better looking then everyone else's carriage style doors. You just need to upgrade the hardware.. I also think Raynor makes a really quality product. They use 24 gauge steel skins, they manufacture their alot of their own hardware, and they have a fantastic warranty as I found out 3 years ago. The only downside side to them is they are priced slightly above everyone else except Hass LOL!
@affordabledoorgatellc73915 жыл бұрын
I have installed a couple of Hass and Raynor doors both really nice. I would just like to find one company that can meet my expectations on the cheap, mid and high end door I'm hoping clopay will fit the bill.

Ok garage door man...im a bug man...take some info with ya... Use Final Blox Mouse Bait for your mice, can order from eBay or probably Amazon to. No mice again. So do I need 2x6 framing for garage door? I'm building a wood working shop from scratch. Was going 2x4 studs. What say you. ?
@affordabledoorgatellc73913 жыл бұрын
I prefer 2x6 for framing. 2x4 will work, but I feel that a 2x6 gives you a bit more room for error.

The reason there was a hole in the bracket was because they use hand tools to put the doors in most the time it’s a nail put in there

Crawfords were a great door but if you don't know how to adjust them stay away .. Kinda like a Barco door out of Chicago .. Square head bolts .. All hand installed with speed wrench ..i still have a set laying around .. When doormen were door men and not parts changers and there weren't color coded drums, springs or screws

What you was originally looking at was the flag for the load your door came on and the 2 is for what stop that door got dropped off at (the 1st stop)

Crawford lasted until Wayne Dalton bought them out in the early 80's. Also, most all their torsion spring doors had outside pickup, even high lift and vertical lift doors. And seeing some old literature online from the 50's, the short-long-short panel design like you had was called the "Riviera" door...
