I have been go into Chiang Mai for 20 years for the winters. The air quality index gets into the Unhealthy area for sensitive people beginning in December. I wake up and I can feel that my lungs are irritated so I’m no longer going to Chiang Mai. Too many areas in Mexico and Central and South America with pleasant weather and great air quality with favorable dollar exchange rates. Too bad because I loved my life in Chiang Mai.

Go to Da Nang during burning season. Rent your place on yearly lease during burning season though for best prices. Cheap enough to keep even if you're in Da Nang. Awesome content, keep it coming 😊

Thanks so much! And yes, this burning season most of my friends in Chiang Mai all migrated to Da Nang until the pollution was better 😂

Thank you for the tips. The way you talk is calm and professional. I plan to go stay long term in Jomtien soon. I like the beach there.

I love the Old City area. Convenient and not so westernized as Niman. But everybody is different!

I will move my family of four to Chiang Mai at the end of this week (from Los Angeles). I would say your advice is pretty well grounded and consistent with my experience during past look see visits to CM. I will use 66property as my agent. From my research, they specialize in home rentals and sales and have the most properties on their website compared to others. Perfect Homes seems to be good for condos. Thanks for sharing BTW. Have you compared using a fintech such as Wise or Revolut to transfer and exchange your dollars into THB? From what I can tell it’s the cheapest option although I have not looked at Schwab’s spot rates compared to Wise. Any thoughts you can share on Schwab and comparisons to other FX solutions? This would be helpful to me as I have a Schwab investment account, but have used their banking side yet.

Exciting! I’m from San Diego originally :) I’ve heard about 66property, haven’t used them my self but I’m sure they’re great! I haven’t looked into Revolut, but last time I checked Wise the fee was much higher than if I was to pull directly from an ATM from Schwab. If you’re doing wire transfers often, I’ve heard people using Wise more but I only pull money usually once a month so Schwab has worked for me. I’ll definitely look more into this because I’m not too familiar with the different rates but I’ve had a few people ask about this so could be helpful to know!

Thanks for this very helpful information. Wondering if there are many choices for renting a condo? And are there choices at lots of price points, especially would an agent be interested in helping at lower prices? Possibly ideas for a future video, thanks
@katherinenic
@katherinenic 26 күн бұрын
Yes! My agent helped me work with the owner to negotiate my current rental price. Usually if you sign for longer (1 year lease for example) the price is usually a bit lower. There's many many options available for condo rentals. The price range can vary depending on what exactly you are looking for but in general there are plenty of options to choose from :)

Is the Charles Schwab account a regular checking account? I'll probably sound stupid but I only know them for investments lol.

Can you do some information about retire visas??
@katherinenic
@katherinenic 22 күн бұрын
I don't have personal experience with retirement visas but I can try to gather some info and keep that in mind for a future video. There's a Facebook group called Thai Visa Advice that usually has some great info from those who have experience with retirement visas: facebook.com/groups/thaivisaadvice/

I'd love to move there long-term! but concerned as a single person with little family in the city that maybe I won't have that support network~ Curious how ya'll adjust in this area?

Totally understand! I also don’t have family here but overtime I was able to find a really supportive community here. Depending on what you’re interested in - there’s hiking groups, dancing community, digital nomad groups and tons of other opportunities to meet and connect with other people who are also living here long term. It does take time but it’s definitely possible :) There's also an amazing Facebook group for women in Chiang Mai (I'll link it below!) but this is a great way to connect with people too. There's always events or meet-ups being posted in the group. facebook.com/groups/ChiangMaiNomadGirls/

Are you related to Hailey Hicks at Elite Visa in Chiang Mai? The resemblance is overwhelming imho. You both put out helpful videos & seem to have a similar style.

@@katherinenic Okay, cool. She's awful good at putting out Visa info videos, tho she doesn't crank out too many. You two could pass for sisters imho. Pretty funny to me that she too is in Chiang Mai. Good work in these videos. I live in Jomtien and always find information from other parts of Thailand to be very helpful.
