I'm in the same situation, I don't like guided tours, but I think I'll have to take it and I like your route, who did you do it with?

me too. I have three nights to spend between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and I'm undecided whether to do Chiang Rai on a day tour or try to do it alone. These tour doesn't seem to go through Wat Huay Pla Kang and I would like to see it

Just walked around Chiang Mai and booked a tour from someone we liked in the end and gave a good price. But be aware in the end you don't know which tour guide you will get because these agencies in the end put you just together on the same tour.

A day trip, 3 hours drive up and 3 hours drive down
