A cool detail: Ruijerd always says that there are only "warriors" and "children", and he said he'd never harm a child. Him punching Eris was a throwback, when Eris hit him for the first time in ep12 he started calling her a warrior as well. He's still escorting them because of the promise, but he already sees both as warriors. Noice stuff.

Based on reading that, I'm not sure that's the case since he was described as being distinctly unhappy about it, followed by: "Hmm. Normally, he was the kind of guy who’d explode in righteous anger if he saw someone strike a child, but maybe his principles were more flexible than I thought. Eris must have thrashed around like a lunatic in her fury. And of course, the two of them did spar constantly, so this was hardly the first time he’d given her a bruise or two…Looking at his face more closely, though, I realized that wasn’t really relevant. Ruijerd wasn’t calm right now. He wasn’t an expressive man, but I could see something like anguish in his eyes.He never wanted to hit her. He must have had no choice.I didn’t know exactly what had happened, or what words they’d exchanged. But there was one thing I could say for sure: It was my fault the two of them got in a fight. But I was able to make peace with Paul as a result…which meant I ought to be more grateful than anything."

This episode was fantastic. I want to highlight a few points about the episode and I will also mention some things the Anime skipped from the Light Novel. I won't spoil anything and only bring up "cut content". While I am disappointed they montaged-through Paul's journey with Norn, it can't be helped. They can only adapt so much. Regardless, what they did with that entire montage was still incredible. It summed up the chapter (LN vol 5, Chapter 2 "Paul's Story") perfectly. Here's a tidbit for Anime onlys (since it won't be covered in the Anime). Paul and Norn were transported relatively close from where they were. They were transported 2 months worth of travel away. Luckily, it was a location that Paul recognized from his youth. He was transported near a town that he and Lilia trained in the Water God sword style. He got the horse seen in the montage from the Adventurer's Guild there (basically stole it). I want to shoutout both Geese and that bartender. Both these men went out of their way to help both Paul and Rudeus notice their mistakes; Paul overestimating and expecting too much from Rudeus, and Rudeus not even looking at Paul's face. You can't empathize with someone if you're not looking at them. Ruijerds comment to Paul before he left to leave them alone is important for characterization of Ruijerd. Do remember that this is from a man who killed his own son while mind-controlled. "Any argument can only be had when the other is alive." You can tell Ruijerd has already experienced the depths of hell. The scene where Paul hallucinates (or imagines) Rudeus was filler, but it was done very well. I am very happy with how that scene turned out. I especially like how it references a scene in the novels where Rudeus is watching Norn sleep. I can't remember if that was shown in the Anime, but I don't think it was. Rudeus's character development was amazing. The anime did this perfect. His inner monologue and flashback to his previous life I think were done better than the Novel. Maybe that's bias towards the amazing voice actor (who also voiced Minato Namikaze from Naruto and Isshin Kurosaki from Bleach, by the way). I think Pauls voice actor was the greatest part of this episode. His emotion when breaking down in Rudys arms cannot be matched. That will be a hard scene to dub for sure, for any voice actor. Okay now for the things that were skipped / changed drastically. First of all I should mention that the entire montage of Paul and Norn in the opening song was actually an entire novel chapters worth of content. If you still aren't sold that Paul is indeed a good man, I highly recommend you read their story. It gave glimpses to what happened which I won't go too much into detail, but Norn gets sick during the journey and Paul looks after her. This is in part why Norn becomes so attached to her father. Of course it has inner monologue and is told from the perspective of Paul. Something I wish the Anime would do more of; changings the perspective of who the story is being told from and to hear other characters inner thoughts. 1. There was a scene after Rudeus and Paul reconciled where they visit a restaurant with Eris, Norn and Paul. This scene was more mostly to show how Norn feels about Rudeus and Rudeus's struggle to make up with Norn (which fails completely). 2. Now regarding Vierra and Shierra. Before Rudeus went out for dinner with Paul, he visited their headquarters and met them. There is actually a reason why Vierra wears skimpy clothing. The reason is Shierra. They both were teleported and captured by bandits who sexually abused both of them. Vierra was able to bounce back through sheer willpower. Shierra on the otherhand has extreme PTSD and cannot deal with men looking at her. That is why Vierra started wearing revealing clothing, to get all the mens gazes away from Shierra. This is a common thing among the work-team and Vierra also does it for the other abused women. Paul said that "I consider her an indispensible part of the team." 3. On a similar note, I forget exactly how this was explained (whether through Pauls inner-monologue or conversation) but it is made clear that Paul this entire time had been keeping his hands to himself. He has not slept with any women and instead resorted to alcohol to deal with his stress. This is implied in the Anime very subtly. I hope attentive anime-onlys will have noticed this. This comment should be long enough as it is. I have learnt my lesson to never pick a fight with "KZbin's Comment Character Limit". So I will stop here. If anyone else noticed anything interesting, leave a reply! I love discussing the anime & novel. Be sure to hide all potential spoilers below the "read more" button and be sure to warn people beforehand. Thanks for reading!

@filip89853 жыл бұрын
ive always though that this show really nails the purpose of an opening, its not just another forgettable song over some flashy montage of what will happen in the rest of the season. It shows you what the characters are getting up to in a way that doesnt need an explanation, like at the start of part 2 when in the intro we see how Roxy made her way to the demon continent, it would have been a bit sloppy if it was just explained because the show is told from Rudeus' point of view and he doesnt know about what Roxy is doing. Whereas by having in the intro, its almost as if we step back to look at whats happening in the broader world, just with a bit less detail. The openings in this show are used in a way to present information unique to each episode, but in a very subtle way, where even if you skipped it the story would still make sense, but those that see it get all these small hints that really bring the story to life. And the song is a banger too, its not like the One Piece rap or anything, but it perfectly matches this world of Mushoku Tensei (i think its called the Hexahedral World) and really sets the tone for the journey Rudeus is on.

I was waiting for Paul to ask Geese how he met Rudy. In the LN the big wake up call for Paul in that conversation is when Geese tells him that he met Rudy in the Doldia jail (apparently there is only one) and he's like "Oh shit, I guess he had it hard" Also, it's not just because Geese was searching for his family, he spent 6 months in the Great forest looking for people/negotiating with the tribes and sending the refugees to Millishion. Paul is surprised because in the last 6 months, they received thousands of refugees coming from the Great Forest. It is also revealed that Geese got arrested on purpose to help Rudy escape the jail because "it's easier to break out than to break in"

Well this episode truly wrapped up all my worries about last week's adaptation. 10/10 A cool character building that was skipped about the two assistants that were with Paul: They are two sisters, and when they were kids they were enslaved, the warrior one was always a tough woman, but her sister was a shy and anxious girl. After they went through all the abuses of slavery the shy girl became traumatized of men's looks, so her sister started to wear that bikini armor to attract the lust of everyone around them to her, in order to spare her sister of it. That's also part of why Paul got so upset when he accused him of cheating and mocked her clothes.

According to "Chekhov's gun" rule, "If there is a gun seen hanging on the wall in the 1st act, in 3rd act it must go off". Back in season one, we have seen a scene in which Paul was supposed to scold Rudy for defending Sylph from bullies, yet it was Rudy, who scolded Paul in the end. Now I see, that it was more than just Rudeus flexing his above average maturity. In that scene Rudeus completely DESTROYED Paul's authority over him and his self-esteem, which resulted in his inferiority complex and over the top expectations and just now we have seen the results. Amazing writing. Just when I thought this show cannot get any better, here it is to surprise me. A few observations: - To add on to your comment in the last vid of Paul being a good father as he kept his daughter looking prim and proper despite becoming more of a mess each day - at the start of the episode Paul was as frightened and confused as anyone after the teleportation, but kept things together because he didn’t want to stress Norn. - In the manga/LN Geese brought Paul to fight a monster in the sewers, which he struggled with, and told him Rudy fought against stronger foes daily in the Demon Continent. In the anime, they instead used a vision of a maimed Rudy blaming Paul for not finding him sooner (I liked this better, because one of the reasons Paul was in such a disheveled state was because of how guilty he felt when anguished survivors he couldn’t help in time came to him every day) - In the manga/LN Rudy was ugly crying when hugging Paul as well, because he treasured Paul and because he managed to get past his lingering guilt towards his friend from his past life. All in all a fantastic episode and, irregardless of the cut content people mentioned, a lovely adaptation by Bind, who never fail to captivate and immerse me with the changing opening sequence/song.

For me the one single line from Geese stole the show, "were you hoping for a dead-eyed son with parts of him missing?" This one simple line completely solidified the fact that nothing would have made Paul happy here, given his state of mind. Was a good episode, bit of a shame that time issues mean that certain things were cut short. I particularly liked Paul's monologues in the LN, such as: A year and a half had passed since “The Displacement Incident.”These days, alcohol was the only thing that kept me going. I started drinking in the morning, and I kept right on going into the night. I was literally never sober.I knew I should stop myself. But whenever the booze wore off, the exact same thoughts always popped into my head.I’d tell myself that my family was dead.I’d think about the ways in which they might have died. I’d wonder what had happened to their corpses. I couldn’t think about anything else. Can you really blame me? Even that absurdly talented son of mine had vanished without a trace. I didn’t want to believe it. I really didn’t. But in all probability, he was dead. They had all probably died sometime in the last eighteen months-with tears running down their faces, waiting for me to rescue them.Every time I pictured it, I thought I might go crazy. What the hell was I doing here, anyway? Why had I wasted all this time helping a bunch of strangers? I should have headed straight to the most dangerous parts of the world from the very start. I could have managed, somehow, even if I was on my own.I made the wrong choice, and now I’d lost my family. The people I cared for most had been stolen from me, and I could never get them back.I didn’t want to believe that, of course. So I drank. When I was drunk, at least, I could feel something like happiness.

These perspective swaps are something I really wish the Anime would do more often. Hearing the other characters inner thoughts really fleshes them out. It makes the world feel more alive, as you see Rudeus's life from a third perspective. It makes you feel that everyone has their own takes on everything around them. Regardless, this episode was still fantastic.

I'm honestly kind of fine that they cut this. It would have been nice to have it in there, but I feel the anime did a great job of showing all of this without directly telling us.

Underrated Moment; but when Eris stands up and goes after Paul before their reunion, you might think its a gag, but it’s really telling of how far she’s come as a character. She noticed that slight tense in Rudy as Paul came in, and immediately got up to defend him. Really goes to show how different she was since she was introduced. Same applies to Rujired here but I saw another comment talking about it

One thing i wanted to comment on is about eris in this episode. I know the episode its mainly about rudy and paul and how they deepen their relationship, but near the end when rudy is having their 2nd "Dead End" meeting you can see how vulnerable rudy feels about telling eris that the town and eris' family are still missing. I was really surprised about how emotionally rock solid eris seemed in that moment given that she struggles with empathy. She said she had accepted that much. I wonder if we'll see more of her emotional growth later.

One of the things the anime didn't show was Paul thinking why he treated Rudy different for being a genius or whether he world treat norn different and that if Rudy was normal he would've stayed home and may have been with norn and Paul after the incident he always felt like he was getting in the way when trying to be a father to Rudy I think it was a great part.

This episode….. it really actually saved my relationship with my girlfriend. Forgiveness between us two flawed individuals. The argument and fight we had really reminded me of this episode a day after me watching it. I rewatched it again. This made me look at everything and laid out everything fit both of us, and we did make up. This episode made me reflect a lot. Its a masterclass of thoughtfulness and forgiveness. It’s actually one of the reasons this series needs to get full attention. The light novel. All it needs to be presented In this anime. It will literally be one of the best series of all time. I truly believe that.

I havent seen the episode yet but from looking at the title i can probably guess they did some cut content and improved upon the characters so they dont look too distasteful to the viewers compared to the light novel. You know I remember there being a part in the light novel where Eris responds to Paul's comment. Paul: "Are you hiding behind a girl?" Eris:" No! I'm hiding his poor excuse of a father from him." She straight up roasts him, kinda disappointed they didn't add that, and Geese's extra words near the end of his convo with Paul.

This episode tell's us what family is all about. Finding your family and failing your family but most importantly forgiving your family. It was heartwarming episode for me and i think this episode show's us of the character development of rudy and paul and remember this anime is a ''REDEMPTION ARC'' and redemption arc is useless without character development. And studio bind delivered it to us into perfection of how the character development is all about three thumbs up for that 👍👍👍 😊

Geese what a chad! He intentionally made himself caught in the Great Forest to search for Rudy’s family. Absolutely the MVP of this ep. And also an honorable mention to the based tavern owner! But Geese tho, hats off to him. he tried finding Paul's family at the Great Forest and hit the jackpot - Geese slap the shit out of paul & help Paul search for his family - Old man bartender the real bro - Ruijerd being the so mature and supportive asf The 3 character we don’t care or appreciate, yet they contribute the most Also, SOmething you anime only's wont know, There's a reason why that adventurer girl was dressed so scantily. That little girl that is always with her is her little sister who became a sx slave until rescued by Paul. She is severely traumatized and has developed a severe phobia of people looking at her, especially men. That's why her older sister dresses like that so that people's eyes fall unto her instead of her sister, basically to redirect attention away from her traumatized sister.

The episode did a great job on all of it. They gave us a glimpse of what Paul went through at the beginning, making him a more empathetic character. Then they executed the reconciliation really well. Something that I especially give the show credit for is referencing back to Rudy's previous life. Some shows talk about the character being from another world, and there is some connection. Others just toss it aside and move on with the fantasy world. In this series, his previous life still strongly influences how he makes decisions. Re:Zero does this to a certain extent, though we only find out later. All in all, a really good episode. I'm looking forward to seeing more! 🙂

Even with the reincarnation thing, Rudy still only has 11 years worth of experience in that world.
