It definitely wasn't a buffalo... an adult buffalo can be about as tall as an average human, that thing was about half Rujierd's height. Probably more likely supposed to be a yak or something since they're usually used as pack animals in mountainous climates. Either way though, it shouldn't really matter since you both knew what he was talking about.

The anime doesn’t explain this but the reason why Rudy never used fire magic is because if he accidentally put to much mana into it it could completely destroy everything around him. But in this fight he put ALL of his mana into this one fire spell and imagined a nuclear explosion as well. If Orsted doesn’t absorb it or tried to deflect it the entire mountain side would be completely gone.

The day he hits adult hood, who knows what he’ll be capable of along with Eris. In the end, they could do nothing in the face of a *reality check* a being they had no hope of beating. They needed this if they hope to get stronger, to know what utter defeat is like.

Though mage wise, Rudy should be higher than his current class, Rudy basically nerf most his self invented attacks like the earth cannon. Like he basically unleashed what its fully capable of until now. Also with using fire magic since Rudy don't have a fail safe when his spell goes awry since most of the time he usually puts more umph on it than hwat he intends which may potentially harm his allies in combat.

@@elieltoure8597 the thing is, rudy at this point has been training, but hasnt been able to learn anything new, he doesnt have anyone to teach him nor somewhere to learn, about the demon eye, Kirishika doesnt give them out of generosity, she just gives them cus lol, if you feed her or help her a little she will give you either a bit of help or an eye, then he can see up to 2 seconds with the magic eye because if he tries to look ahead, the multiple futures are so much it overload his brain, he tried to learn the howl magic from teh beast people but by racial factors he cant use it, as he lacks their vocal cords, there is also that, while Eris trained, Rudy has been doing background work, such as ensuring their funds, provisions and other menial tasks the other 2 are shitty to do, it is a wake up call for them but in honesty, they are at a decent level for people, specially children, orsted is like if you were trying to climb from the exterior a an inverted pyramid of the size of Mt everest, such a towering existence no one can beat on 1v1, at most damage if they are decently strong

He's not too lazy to train, he just literally cannot. For him to train he needs to deplete his mana, mana that the party potentially needs to in travel, and this also exhaust him, he doesn't want to be a literal and figurelatively a dead weight for the dead end.

3 things to take note of this episode 1. That girl nanahoshi. We learn from the man-god that orsted is cursed to be hated or feared by all living things yet it doesn't effect rudy. When asked why the god say, "isn't it because you were reincarnated?" But that girl also wasn't affected by his curse and was travelling besides him. Not to mention that Nanahoshi is a Japanese name and she has black hair. 2.rudy has mana capacity equivalent to laplace. He was the demon god that was ranked 3rd of the world powers before getting sealed off in the 2nd demon-human War. 3. When orsted sees rudy,eris and ruijerd he recognised both eris and ruijerd. When asked if they met them by rudy he says, "we haven't known each other yet" implying they meet in the future. That means orsted can see the future. Also he says that Paul is only supposed to have 2 daughters. I think originally rudy wasn't supposed to be born. Which means Paul and zenith's first child might have been a miscarriage... that would also explain why kishirika said rudeus absorbed his twin in the womb, he probably absorbed the soul of the original child that was supposed to die... that's just a theory I came up with tho but if it's indeeds the case then the circumstances behind rudeus' reincarnation is quite dark.

This episode honestly felt like two minutes. Both Eris and Rujerd spar and Vs Dragon God fights were spectacularly animated. I'm just hoping animators at allowed to sleep at all. Rudy really messed up this episode and should read the room. Rujerd even warned him what might happen. He really dodged a bullet right there. I'm just eindering why he got spared.

As a geology student, I want to point an interesting thought, When we see rudy's first attack, the rock one. However, it's a small rock, it has a devastating effect on Orsted. The reason for this, the fighting area looks like a very young geological body and most probably volcanic origin. These volcanic rocks, especially the very dark ones seen in the episode, are highly dense and rich in iron. Hence, their hardness is much higher than Ranoa's (probably), where rudy uses the same attack. Therefore, Rudy's projectile had more weight and hardness (Hardness, even contributes to the projectile's rigidity on impact) due to the volcanic environment.

The magnitude of this episode cannot be properly stated. That was incredible animation and delivery. This event will effect our main characters, and the world, for the whole rest of the story. I just remembered one moment early in the show - when Ghislaine saved Rudi & Eris, and Rudi had the blood on his hands, Rudeus really showed that his next death has been a worry for him. He has become so powerful and experienced, yet, he was murdered in a frozen cave. Damn it, Mushoku Tensei is showing it's epic colours here. I am so happy to be able to share the joy of this tale with so many other people.

I think this encounter was necessary from Rudeus because it goes to show despite all his skills and experience, he still isn't strong enough to face the real threats of their world plus Ruijerd and Eris were almost killed. Rudeus was INSAENLY lucky that he got healed by Orsted due to that masked women or else it was truly game over for him. From this point onwards, he will actually get serious about training himself to get poweful to protect the ones close to him. I haven't read the LN so this is my analysis so far. What do you think about this encounter?

He gets into fights with a lot of people but there's not a specific nemesis he has to fight in the traditional sense, like how other series would have the hero fight the demon lord or whatever. Extra spoilery info below if you really want to know. - Rudeus later works to oppose Hitogami, who planned to eventually harm his family. You could say Hitogami is the closest thing to a 'main villain' in the story, but the catch here is that Rudeus actually can't do anything that would result in defeating him during his lifespan. Rudeus could work his entire lifetime and become his strongest possible self, but he would be unable to even reach Hitogami. Instead he makes preparations, partly so that Hitogami's downfall can be achieved, but much more importantly so that his family can stay safe, which is pretty much his biggest concern later in the story.

As an anime only, you don't understand how crazy it is that Rudeus wounded (no matter how small) Orstead. Orstead has THE most powerful defense in the world. Maybe about a dozen people world wide could do that, two dozen at the absolute most. This fact will change how some people will see Rudeus. ( i could give a quote but that would be a spoiler) This will be known in season 3 to anime only and won't take away any enjoyment. It can also be easily inferred that wounding someone whom so easily beats down Ruijerd and is one of the 7 major powers would be an impressive feat that changes peoples opinions about you when they know about that fact.

Here is some more context on everything that happened this episode from Light Novel. I paid close attention to how I worded these points, to be very close to verbatim as the light novel as possible. Anime was a lot more vague and did not reveal everything the novel did. Spoiler warning regardless. 1. The information about the seven powers didn't happen at this part of the novel, but rather back when they were first introduced before Millishion, with Geese. Anime is just repeating it to keep it fresh in your mind. (Would have preferred if they spent this time back during that episode, fleshing it out more. Personal nit-pick, disregard) 2. This was sort of hinted at or implied, but Rudeus took special note of seeing Nanahoshi. He noticed she had long black hair.. He couldn't recall any single person he met who had black hair. He also noticed she was wearing a white mask that reminded him of the type of mask you'd find back in his old world. 3. The bull they were using for transporting their luggage did not actually kill itself as shown in the Anime. I don't mind this filler though, because it sets the tone quite well. 3. When Orsted approaches them recognizing Ruijerd, he realizes what Ruijerd is doing. He accurately concludes that Ruijerd was escorting these two who were teleported by the displacement incident to the demon continent, back home. 4. Rudeus monologues that Orsteds tone of voice was unusual. That he sounded flat and that there was a quality that made him sound happy, as if he was reunited with an old friend. Ruijerd's body language was complete opposite. Like he would attack at any second. Orsted is relieved that Ruijerd seems well. Orsteds final words in this first little interaction are "You’ll know who I am…eventually". 5. Ruijerd does not recognize Orsteds name. Orsted says they are "not yet" acquainted. (Now I am remembering how much the novel spelled this out for us, unlike the Anime. This probably all sounds like spoilers to you anime onlys, but for real, the novel went this far to spell this out for us) 6. Orsted used a technique against Eris, unlike Ruijerd who he just outmatched in terms of skill. Orsted used "Secret Technique: Flow" to stop Eris's blade. (Wonder why he didn't do this against Ruijerd? Maybe Ruijerd is too skilled for such a low-ranked technique?) Rudeus recognizes this technique. It's one Paul showcased when he was training with him. A Water-God style technique. 7. Orsted says "It's best to collapse a magicians lungs". (I mean...he's right normally. Just not in this case.) Orsted was impressed with Rudeus's Stone Cannon (his most familiar spell that he launched almost subconsciously). Orsted again compliments Rudeus bypassing "Disturb Magic" by using multiple schools of magic voicelessly. Orsted himself then tries to do it himself, and snaps his fingers to summon the ornameted window. Expanding more on that purple flame attack: In Rudeus's mind, he was imagining the fiercest fire he could. A mushroom cloud. A nuclear explosion. Powering it as straightforward and simple as he could. Orsted was disappointed that Hitogami was using pawns who couldn't "even coat themselves in battle-aura". 8. Orsted apologizes to Eris, taking note of how important he was to her. Tells her that one day she will understand before leaving. 9. Eris calls out an extra name when begging for help, one that was skipped by the Anime, but will be shown in the OVA: "Eris the Goblin Slayer" in march 2022. Go read that chapter yourself before then though! It's one of the best chapters of volume 5. The name will be at the bottom of this comment, consider it a spoiler since it is planned to be in the OVA later. 10. Hitogami is surprised that the people in Rudeus's old life didn't have any irregular births of people with special abilities, aka Cursed Children. 11. Hitogami explains that Cursed Children and Blessed Children are the same thing. Humans just like binaries. Hitogami says Rudeus shouldn't sympathize with Orsted, because he's an evil being trying to destroy the world. 12. Rudeus notes that Orsteds curse is also affecting Hitogami into hating him. Hitogami says he doesn't know what other curses he has, because he can't see him. 13. Hitogami mentions Orsted can use every single technique and skills that exists in this world and has his own unique magic that is specific to the Dragon God. On the point of that spell, Rudy's understanding of the spells and the elements it shots are what make him strong compared to other mages that simply use incantations. The reason Rudy is capable of casting such an advanced spell is because of his incantation-less casting, it allows him to modify some aspects of the spell that normal mages cant.

I forget if this ever brought up, but in the WN it was explained that Rudy add modern understanding of how element/chemistry works into his magic. Like the Storm spell he's using the hot&cold wind updraft to maintain it, not using just Air/Wind to enhance his fireball but the actual Oxygen part, making a rifling and drill pattern while also adding rotation to his Stone Cannon so it's more like a Bullet rather than a regular sharp rock. As for Healing magic his understanding of the complexity of human body actually prevent him to imagine it, so he can't do it chantless. So it's a double edge sword...

I also thought it was equally cool watching him make what could be a metal, rather than stone, drill considering the way it glowed. And then spun it against the ground to heat it up to ridiculous temperatures. I think it's pretty insane that both of Rudy's attacks were in some way imperfectly handled by Orsted. The drill was not dodged or parried, as shown by the mark on his hand, and the Plasma ball, if it truly is such, got crazy close to just breaking his shield looking thing.

Apart from the animation (which was really beautiful in this specific episode sepcially the fight between Ruijerd and Orsted), what studio bind really nailed here was the whole atmosphere. The interaction between our main trio and Orsted was completely nailed. You can literally feel it by the facial expressions of our trio, the snowy atmosphere around them and by their voices (specially Ruijerd and Eris) just how much of a horrible situation they were really in. Their desperation to survive this encounter felt real. This feeling is something many animes don't capture quite well but MT captured it almost pefectly in this specific episode. Thank you studio bind, the animators and the voice actors for giving us such an amazing gem of an episode. I can't wait to see how the story advances from this point onwards because it does indeed, feels like a true *turning point* for our main trio.

One detail that was ommited from the anime: Nanahoshi, aka the masked girl is the first person Rudeus saw in his entire life that has Pitch Black hair , if you noticed, there wasn't a single person in the entire show with that hair color, that's why Rudy was focused on her when she got near him, because he thought it was incredible hard to see someone with that hair. I Like that after Rudeus realized Orsted knew a lot, the first thing he asked was if he knew what have happened, since it could help them, but sadly, he didn't

In the novel, Rudy notes that when Orsted talks to Ruijerd he sounds happy and calm like he met an old friend and is happy that Ruijerd is doing well. The foresight eye has two limitations (all explained in anime) - Split decisions cause the eye to display multiple possible futures - Too much stimulation overwhelms the user either from looking too far or having too much to see at once. So either - No matter what you do, Orsted gets you. It is shown when Rudy can’t figure out what body part to guard. - Orsted’s immediate choices are so variable that it overwhelms the user. (When Rudy winces when first seeing him).

Fun fact: Because Rudeus spent so much time making figurines, earth magic is actually his most powerful magic. At least it is the magic he can cast most effectively. In the light novel, it is revealed that Rudeus can’t cast healing magic with voiceless casting because he doesn’t understand how it works. If you remember, Rudeus figured out voiceless casting because of his understanding of modern day science, however magic such as healing doesn’t really fit with what he can comprehend. This actually means that Sylphy has an upper-hand because she learned voiceless casting without a rigid knowledge of science.

@@lalo8555 No. Fire magic only has one configuration: power. Mana directly translates into destructive power. As for the other spells, such as stone bullet, mana can be applied to velocity, to hardness, and to form. This is why he doesn't use Fire. It's not versatile. As for the light novel users, please note that the understanding of magic refers to advanced/combinations magic. The spells themselves imprint upon him as he's casting, and he replicates that "footprint" to cast them voicelessly. The problem with this is that the imprint is left through his nervous system, and this has been jaded so much that it doesn't allow mana to flow through his body. And thus he can't feel mana through his body. This plays an important role in the swordmanship as well, because at higher tiers of swordmanship you're supposed to flow mana through your entire body and use it as a sort of shield. It's called battle aura... Now Sylphi explains that she pushes mana out through her hands into another body and manipulates it there, causing healing. Rudy can't feel mana through his body, let alone someone elses... as mentioned before he did it differently so it forced a specific path for him. This (at least in my theory but with clear and precise bullet points from the Light Novel) is why he can't and won't ever be able to perform healing magic without incantation... And to be honest, the highest tier of healing magic are a pain in the ass to learn... You'd need to cast for hours on end to do so... But that's not nearly the most important part... It's actually what i mentioned before: swordmanship, that would've been what he required. Required because his ingenuity would've pushed him to apply it to another field (let's just call it mecha) that comes into practice later.

You forgot something about why rudy's eye can't seem to see into the future of orsted, I think this is maybe related to what hitogami has said, hitogami clearly stated that he can't see into's orsted future or present...the focusing into his demon eye might just show the fear he is having or what he currently see since at that point rudy would realize that "oh shit I'm gonna die" even without his demon eye, and is not because he saw in the future that he's gonna be killed, since like previously stated the eye doesn't work on him

rudeus attempt to recreate an atomic explotion with that last attack, remember how magic works in this world, if you understand the basics of weather for example you are able to cast elemental magic without incantation like rudeus, he doesnt undestand the principles of medicine thats why he cant use healing magic without incantation, eris va just killed this chapter, the painfull scream when rudeus got impaled oh my god, it was brutal, crying for her mom and dad because rudeus was dying it was painfull to listen, you cant get that level of emotion easily

I think Orsted healed Rudeus because Nanahoshi realised he may be a reincarnation. Nanahoshi is probably also a reincarnation as it's the most Japanese name we've heard so far. She probably realised how Rudeus wasn't afraid of Orsted due to his curse and assuming she is a reincarnation, this would explain why Rudeus wasn't afraid. Just a theory
