As someone who has enjoyed Chicago since the early 70s I love how you really got into the guys. Bobby Terry Peter Danny and Jimmy Walt Lee on the horns ... Nothing will ever compare. With only Bobby Jimmy and Lee still touring they still sound awesome. RIP Terry K

The horns are an integral part of the band and they come to mind anytime you hear the word Chicago. So happy to see you appreciate them.
@pljms Жыл бұрын
The horns gave all the early Chicago songs so much richness and for that trombonist James Pankow has to take a lot of the credit because he wrote all the horn arrangements. They're such an integral part of those classic early Chicago songs that it's impossible to imagine the songs without them.

If this had never happened 50 plus years ago and were released today, it would still sound like new musical territory. Very astute point about how complex this was musically and vocally. Great job.

Every song on this Live at Tanglewood 1970 video is outstanding. IMHO, they were in the midst of their finest period. This period lasted until the death of lead guitarist, Terry Kath. An amazing band in their prime. some highlight to check out from this show include 25 or 6 to 4, Make Me Smile, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, I'm A Man, Colour My World to name a few. The whole band is all extremely talented musicians. I have since noticed that you did check out 25 or 6 to 4 but definitely check the rest out. Outstanding show. KZbin also has a video of the concert in its entirety if you want to experience a complete show. I feel so blessed to have seen so many acts in their prime like Chiocago, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Rush, Queen, Queensrych, and on and on. I would pay a king's ransom to experience it one more time. You are right. Nothing beat real musicians playing and singing live and not playing to tracks and lip syncing. The best part about seeing those show is that I paid $6.50 to $25.00 for good seats on the floor up front. Today kids are paying $250.00 - $1,500 a seat in the mezzanine at best to watch someone lip sync. SMH. I wish I could take you back in time.

Hi Rebeka, this entire concert is absolutely fantastic. It was recorded at Tanglewood in the western part of my home state Massachusetts. Tanglewood is best known as the summer residence of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO). You should check out the amazing cover of this song (and other Chicago covers) by the band Leonid and Friends, which was started by a Moscow music producer/musician who has been a huge Chicago fan for decades and most of the incredible musicians/vocalists in the band are Russian, but 2 former members are Ukrainian and 3 current members are from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. They're coming back to America for their 4'th tour this summer.

This group (Still recording & touring has 38 albums (27 studio albums). If you go down this rabbit hole, I suggest you go chronologically. It will give you a flavor of the breathe, the diversity and the morphing of this band. I would first start with the first song off the first album "Introduction" (not a single, just a balzy Introduction to the band while you get introduced to the third lead singer's soulful voice). Can't wait to see you react to that.

The other, SANTANA (one year after they burst onto the music scene at Woodstock)... So... The Who, Chicago & Santana... Nice to have a concert venue near where you live... And please forgive me for the personal additional note but this was "the song" that was playing in the background in my girlfriend's dorm room the evening we both became "adults" (college freshman year)...

All of the great bands are better live. You can record everything but the emotion of the moment. Of course all we have now from 1970 are recordings, but live before a live audience is something that only being there and experiencing the emotion of the moment cannot be duplicated. When I watch a video and see that it's lip synced, I turn that crap off. Wish I could have been there for this one, but I have seen many of the greats live and carry that in my heart. Wonderful!

Not often do bands feature a TROMBONE solo, but such is the over whelming talent in this group. The original 7 of Chicago should have been in the Hall of Fame for decades, it was a travesty it took so long for the recognition after the insipid ballad era of the 80-90s.
