Chicago Botanical Garden Part One: Dave's Bonsai E436

In this episode, I stop at the Chicago Botanical Garden to see some of their 300 bonsai on display. The road trip steps it up a notch for sure with these trees. Enjoy!

You need a whole day to go through th garden, Dave. Back in the day, I had to leave after rush hour and back before rush hour. Japanese garden was my favorite along with the water garden.

It's actually called the Chicago Botanic Garden. The core of the collection is trees donated by Susumu Nakamura of Yokahama Japan. More trees have since been added to the collection. The Midwest Bonsai Society has a show there on the third weekend of August every year.

Morton Arboretum is also great. I was with my friend Roy a few years back selling bonsai trees when they had it.

Prairie State Bonsai Society has a show at Morton Arboretum on the first weekend of the every year. Part of the Destination Asia festival.

Next time you head to Chicago pull off of I-90 at the E Riverside exit in Rockford and hit the Anderson Japanese Gardens- a full 12 acres of garden! Amazing garden that is over 50 years old.

Again, take another few miles drive to "slow down and smell the roses" at the Sinnissippi River Park Rose garden! (Yes that is spelled correctly!)

Hey Dave, The Mid America Bonsai Exhibition is happening at the Chicago Botanical Garden this weekend (Aug 16-17) and I was planning to just go and look around the exhibit but, now that I’ve seen your video, I’m planning a full day trip to see the gardens as well. Thanks for the tip!!!!
